(continued 2) The recapture of Spain finally lead to a revolution in the way of thinking for the Europeans. They finally came out of 1000 years of dark ages (only the Europeans were in the dark ages not the globe) this new knowledge had a profound influence on the Renaissance and even in the age of Enlightenment they stilled referred back to books written 400-500 years back by Muslim scholars.

And the Renaissance was triggered by an ending of the schism of 1370, that had more to do with Catholicism than Islamic- nothing to do with Islam or Spain. Renaissance means a rebirth of classical society- meaning Greek and Roman. Geez I feel like a history student currently working on a BA

@bart hill, Greeks took much of their knowledge from Middle East when their civilization began to develop, after that Arabs based their knowledge on Greek (which as mentioned was inspired by civilizations like Mesopotamia and Egypt). There was no copying, but rather a mutual inspiration.
@barthill9578
@barthill9578 9 лет назад
Mesopotamia and Egypt are Greek names and lands. Can you name one Arabic school in ancient times? besides Arabs didn't appear till after 1600bc.
@Zander25332533
@Zander25332533 9 лет назад
bart hill You are right about Arabic schools, which rose highly during the Middle Ages. However, I wasn't speaking of Arabs but rather Middle Eastern civilizations like Mesopotamia, Persia and Egypt (If Egypt can be counted as Middle Eastern, although I think it can't), but you get the idea. Egypt and Mesopotamia are Greek names, but how is that relevant to my initial argument?
@barthill9578
@barthill9578 9 лет назад
Zander25332533, It means the ancient Egyptians and Mesopotamians were Greek as were all the schools in those lands.
@Zander25332533
@Zander25332533 9 лет назад
bart hill They were Greek? How were they Greek?! Just because we call them by Greek names today? Do you know that "Greece" is a Latin word? Does that imply how Greeks were Italic?

(continued 1) Spain had soo many libraries with books in Arabic and most of all in Spain Muslims, Jews and Christians lives peacefully however once it was slowly captures by the radical Christians they annexed the Jews and forbidden many Islamic practices. A lot of libraries full of priceless works of science were lost/translated and since the Muslims themselves were disunited (fighting sectarian division and Mongols) so the recapture of Spain went through without much retaliation or notice

@VAPOURIZE100 12 лет назад
good job pretty detailed however u missed some facts here -a lot of sciences came from Islamic empire that were later copied into European languages (conquest of Spain) -crusades are never mentioned even though they introduced Europe to the East however there is credit that should go to European inventors that built up on the research done by the Islamic empire however both should be mentioned since both are interconnected in a cause and effect relation

They built on what the Romans left and enhanced that same technology adding mostly math, bio, chem n physics much more was added.. after the fall of the caliphate Europeans took those ideas to rebuild Europe out of the Dark ages (renaissance) especially Western Europe..Eastern Europe (Byzantine) was busy fighting the Persians, Arabs, Mongols and later Turks...I think the narrator should have said Europe to be more specific not "Humanity" as a whole

(continued 3) The silk road was initially established by the Greeks and opened up the East to the West however China didn't go westwards the west came to China for its fine silk but with the rise of Islam the flow of trade between Europe and China became a trickle hence opening a new route lead to Europeans discovering two new continents. Of course it wasn't because Muslims did not trade they did trade with Europe but not as frequently until the Ottomans increased their interaction in 14-1500s

why would they name it the "silk road" in 500 BC? it was always about that which is why Columbus crossed the Atlantic in the 1400s. Not to mention India's spices which is what attracted the Europeans... Asia already had more than enough resources they didnt envy Europe at all it was Europeans who were envied the resources, land and wealth...The everyday European finally woke up and started asking questions to the church which lead to their demise due to reasoning and knowledge (Spain)

They do! in the sense that it was a more hands on interaction with Islam instead of just blindly trusting the Popes who often filled the public with misconceptions and lies (one such example, Muslims are idol worshipers) it was the start of west's interaction with the east (all of middle east and Asia). For your question about the Crusades, Spain followed Islam for a good period of time but by the 1200s during the last crusade "reconquesta" took over Spain...
@dmelnick00
@dmelnick00 11 лет назад
what do the crusades of 1000-1200 have to do with the renaissance of florance itally 1500? ( a return to classical society or "rebirth") and the silk roads of 500 BCE introduced europe to the east.. east (china) went west, not the other way around.. so he did great and thank you for NOT mentioning the crusades... he said it best- the renaissance took the world by storm, every nation had a part. Islam had to do with advancement of math and science and currency, absolutely NOT politics and art.
@VAPOURIZE100
@VAPOURIZE100 11 лет назад
They started to question based on theories developed by Islamic scholars and became more literate you need to connect the dots my friend...increased knowledge and cleanliness (formerly barbarians living in woods w no concept of hygiene) I'd say the rebirth had many reasons and fall of Spain was one of them...lets just say Islam and Spain INFLUENCED the Renaissance
