The history of the Eastern Roman Empire, aka Byzantium, from the fall of Rome to the fall of Rome No. 2, Constantinople, is a story of constant decadence, losses and defeats alternating with small rises and successes, which nevertheless never brought the country to pre-crisis levels. In its thousand years of decline - the margin of strength of the Hellenistic empire was enormous - there were many such glimmers of hope, and even more opportunities for them. I'll tell you the story of how the last such opportunity laid the foundation for the rebirth of the Empire, and the story of this rebirth, using mod MEIOU & TAXES 3.0 for Europa Universalis IV.
