The Second World War changed the face of many countries, and Poland was one of them. It met the end of the war as a completely different country and state than it had been at its beginning. Its borders had shifted westward, its area had shrunk, albeit not significantly, and the country itself was ruled by a Communist puppet regime. The Polish government in exile, which fled to the West after the country's defeat at the beginning of the war, and returned home only after the collapse of the communist order in 1990, made attempts to prevent this state of affairs, both diplomatic and military, and the most notable and tragic attempt was the uprising in German-occupied Warsaw in 1944, which ended with the defeat of the rebels, the destruction of half the city and about a hundred thousand civilians. But what if this uprising had been successful? What if the Poles could have liberated themselves before it was done by the Red Army? In this video I will tell the story of Poland's defeat at the beginning of World War II, the Polish government in exile, their armed forces, and the partisans fighting for the nation's freedom, using hoi4 as a storytelling tool.
