Welcome to the Synthetic History Channel, where I talk about events that didn't happen as if they did, using Paradox Interactive games (Hearts of Iron, Victoria, Europa Universalis, etc.) as a storytelling tools.
This is amazing, Mr. Synthist. I really like the idea of Japan becoming an East Asian Christian country, and this deserves a part two, where an earlier united Japan under the Otomo Shogunate conquered the declining Ming China along with Korea and replaced the Heaven Mandate by making the Emperor of Japan the new Emperor of China.
I always loved the idea of Japan becoming Christian not because I believe in it but as someone who studies religion my favorite part is how religions adapt to new cultures and incorporate ideas from both sides
What i learned playing non historical: Italy will always become communist and lose ethiopia while simultaneously being one of the biggest powers in eruope, spain always has a 3 way cival war minimum which regardles of outcome gets consumed by comunist Portugal, and not even the a.i wants to play democratic germany
Oh man, hearing HOI III music has me feeling incredibly nostalgic, which is really weird. Why is it weird? Because the actual campaign would always almost instantly crash for me and I was only able to play the smaller scenarios like Spanish civil war, winter war etc. I have about 29 hours in-game time in HOI III (it would be much more had I been able to actually play the big campaign), compared to over 1200 in HOI IV, yet for some reason, hearing "Road to Berlin" (or... Road from Berlin, don't remember) or "Luftwaffe" has me feeling so nostalic.
With most of the first world black pilling me on democracy actually serving the people the phrase "Dusk of Democracies" had me popping a semi. Although personally I prefer grey over brown.
Almost never comment but holy shit it was legitimately jarring to see the Vic II map after being immersed in the story you were telling. I had to freeze because I was that confused. I completely forgot that this wasn't some odd history documentary and was simply a game narration. Great job man, oh lord.
The failures of communism listed are all pretty weird, not only because communism never existed (it was socialism, and even then the last battle of socialism never was won, even tho Hruschov and other politicians claimed that we achieved it and totally will build communism, just wait a two decades!!) First of all the economy point, are we seriously going to take the late USSR on the downfall while ignoring the first decades where thanks to the socialist policies our countries were able to become a power house with which we were able to defeat the nazis? Nor do I understand the point about how a people's party which utilises democratic centralism can't be democratic unless the definition of democracy here being ''many parties'' and not the rule of people (or specifically the working people in this case). Про голодомор говорити не буду The over-importance of Trotsky is also weird, the guy was just plain weird, from at first calling Lenin stupid and dismissing his ideas to later claiming to be the right heir (while a few others were considered for the position, Trotsky wasn't), not even to mention how him and his and Zinoviev's groups sabotaged our countries and didn't really care for socialism, from their own words they thought that the ressurection of capitalism would be more benefitial for them, but sure, we could say that since this is an alternative world, the characters and the semi-historical events are also altered. Plus even trotskyists cannot define what permanent revolution fully entails. Plus none of the things listed are inherent to communism, no point criticises the ideology in itself, and even if we call the horrible and tragic famine an extermination based on genos in no where does it state that ''if you do communism you have to do horrible thing!''
