Sylvia Smoller’s testimony was recorded as a part of the “The Rescuers” by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Michael King and Executive Producer Joyce D. Mandell released. The documentary film uncovers the largely unknown stories of thirteen heroic and courageous diplomats who, at tremendous personal cost, saved tens of thousands of Jewish people during World War II, Sylvia’s family among them. The Rescuers Film Testimony and Education Project is a landmark partnership between The Andrew J. and Joyce D. Mandell Family Foundation, Inc. and USC Shoah Foundation, which brings the exceptional and important voices of Holocaust survivors and descendants of the rescuers featured in the film to the Visual History Archive. The stories about the heroic individuals portrayed in The Rescuers documentary speak to the importance of standing up to hate and are more important to hear today than ever before. Stories of rescue are of particular value for education, to model positive behavior and inspire today’s youth to act as responsible citizens.
