I lived in the Peoria area (Dunlap) for nearly three years, and it was by far one of the best experiences of my life. I'm from Chicago and there were a ton of people who told me not to move there for work. I'm so glad I didn't listen to these folks. This area is far much nicer than most people would know.
I too love Peoria because of it nature and calmness. I m pretty sure if you are a nature lover and wanted to have a peace of mind then Peoria is Far better place than bigger cities like Chicago.🙂
@@tgltytyhe does a pretty good job. I’ve seen other ones he’s done. Like Washington and Pekin. I was surprised to see your comment. I never see anyone on these I actually know lol 😂. Hope you’re doing good
Thanks for the memories of a drive-through time. You went past where I was born to the place where my parents are laid to rest. You drove past my first job and so many life points in between. Thank you 🥲
Peoria, Illinois is full of nice people and nice places. That said... Thank you for providing a tour for us. Always entertaining. Nostalgia Tours. Ur the greatest.
I'm Peoria born and raised and love it here. The city is pretty with very scenic parks and nice restaurants. There are nice museums here as well.I have friends from Chicago that like coming here to visit.
I used to live in the area next to Richwoods H.S. Lived there from 1962-1968. Dan Fogelberh was our neighbor, hung out with my older, middle sister ( me:kid lol) he showed me my first chords! Peoria good for me. Lived on Ronald Rd.
Thanks for the video. At 13:36, you can clearly see the Pabst Blue Ribbon logo painted on what used to be part of the Pabst brewing complex in Peoria Heights.
Also from Peoria is David Ogden Stiers and Dan Fogelberg whose father was the "leader" of the band/orchestra at Woodruff High School across from Glen Oak Park. Previous video you covered Galesburg where I was born but also raised from 5th - Sophmore High School in Peoria (Averyville) and Peoria Heights on IL Ave.
West Peoria & the Heights are unique parts of the town to live in. West Peoria has a nice & quiet, old town feel and the shopping area/restaurants/bars on Prospect in the Heights has a classy vibe day & night.
Nice musical accompaniment. Super Duper. Love it. Works just like it's supposed to with the cloudy skies and the roads and all. Thank you for the video man.
Peoria Heights is a really cool little cove with what looks like some decent development downtown. Nice little inner city hiking trails called Forest Park just below Grand View drive.
15:00 The East Bluff -The Upper East side 16:25 E. Corrington ave. (My block) 17:34 The Lower East side 19:01 Woodruff High School Famous alumni; Singer David Fogelberg who the street was renamed for Tech (T. MONEY) Holmes from MTV Real World Hawaii Actor; Van Wilder, Host of; Hole in the wall. 20:56 Glendale ave. The Stree Richard Pryor lived & the Neighborhood he ran.
Richard Pryor wasn't from that area he was from the South by his old house is on Charlton st by Streubanville then streets like 3rd st Aiken st Blaine st Millman st ect that area he isn't from the Northend plus that street is mostly Mexicans definitely by Irving School thats where he also shot parts of his movie at
I worked at Northwood mall for about 3 years back in the late eighties. It would be so busy and it would be people shopping hanging out exercising so full of life just so full of happy life
There's an overpass on I-74 over the Murray Baker Bridge. It's very high up over the interstate. Your next piece should show a view from below and above. The structure is notable because it was built on an angle due to the topography. Reminds me of back east in Pennsylvania. Go up and over it. Look west and film downtown. Love your videos on RU-vid anyhow. Thank you.
That is Fondulac Drive with the lookout point up there. It's about 1.5 miles from the Murray Baker Bridge. You can see the Fondulac bridge in this video at the end at 29:42 when he drives under it.
Haha wow! Its so odd to see you driving the routes I drive every day. Also you did an expert job driving a complete loop around where I live without ever passing my house xD. I don't blame yeh! East Bluff ain't such a great neighborhood nowadays. I remember walking down that hill on Frye when they still had Woodruff open down there. I don't miss it. And yeah the tax rates here suck...
I too love Peoria because of it nature and calmness. I m pretty sure if you are a nature lover and wanted to have a peace of mind then Peoria is Far better place than bigger cities like Chicago.🙂
Not complaining... but you missed most of the suburbs. The Heights and West Peoria, though suburbs, border and are so aligned with the city in resources you almost can be considered part of it. Next time, you might trying to go just a bit further out north or west (Knoxville or War Memorial). I enjoy your videos.
Peoria was the first larger city that I tackled when making videos for this channel. I could’ve done better I agree. I’m better at making series to capture everything in a city possible now than I was 3 years ago.
back in the 70s Peoria hts had a brewery for pabst beer it closed by the early 80s and they finally knocked it down when it caught fire. Now all that area is redeveloped. Northwoods mall has been actually struggling since the outdoor mall was built on the other side of town in the late90s It used to look like that for a few years before they finally have been getting new stores to fill it back in It dont help that sears folded up years ago.
Wow that was weird to see my hometown from someone else's driving through it almost went past both my house growing up in the house I've lived in for 40 years I don't know why you didn't go down Grandview drive though that's what Peoria is known for and especially the heights area you almost made it but turn too soon maybe the next time you can catch up with that
Wow. You really just grabbed the low-income places in Peoria. Pennsylvania and Nebraska? Ah, I used to live there and that's a really bad part of town. Yikes.
Lived there in the years 1962-1968, two doors down of where I lived on Ronald Rd. Dan Folgelberg was my neighbor, my older sisters friend & showed me my first chords…. Where my musical adventure started…near Richwoods H.S. …
While traveling on prospect you labeled peoria heights and peoria wrong. peoria was to the right and height the left. also if you would have traveled to the end of glen ave, you would have wound up in the middle of grandview drive where the most expensive houses are in peoria. including a Scottish castle that was brought over here stone by stone at a cost of 1.2 million (i believe in the 80's) and is worth over 10 mil now. not sure how the median house value is only 83k unless they are counting some homeless guy's cardboard box, and even then the median would be like 5 mil. also as was stated in other comments, there's grand prairie mall, our theaters, an ice rink, museums, and then there's dunlap, morton, alta which is a town you miss if you blink, but has the rock island bike trail, which used to be a railway but was converted when it was decommissioned. bet you didn't know you could get from peoria to rock island on a bicycle without having to worry about getting hit by a car. lol anywho just an idea. maybe spend a few days in the towns. talk to the people, learn some stuff from the locals. then you'll have more to say to fill in the dead air, and also you'll have all the good spots (or bad spots) i like the concept. just feels like the "tour" part is a bit rushed in the research department.
How could you show Peoria Heights and not show Grand View Drive? A view of the Illinois river valley that rival views from the Smoky Mountains on the left. Two million dollar mansions on the right that would cost 75 million in California. Same on Prospect Avenue.
What a shame that you missed Moss Ave and Grandview Dr. Not to mention so many other beautiful and historic parts of Peoria. Sadly your video depicts a Peoria that consists only of older, very humble homes and that is very far from the truth. What a shame that you missed so very, very much. ☹️
I stuck here in Illinois , my taxes are not expensive bcz my property is in the country size but I kind far from Peoria I live in Mason city but I visited Peoria sometimes
I seen a lot of beautiful homes. looks like the people take care of there homes despite any poverty or other nonsense going on..I only seen trash on one part of the video on the groun d, where as my City everywhere you go there is trash on the ground. corner stores, and people just walk down the street and throw the trash on the ground. I walk up to my door picking up trash that blew from somewhere... When I look at videos and go to any new city thats the first thing I look for.. Trash on the ground tells a lot about the people who live there.
Its got trash. Its just some residents clean up after the trashy ones. And the city code restrictions are crazy harsh. Lived there till I was 42. Then got smart and moved out of state.
I live in east peoria 45 years now, moved from Creve Coeur a few miles away from east peoria but still on the good side of the river. Don't particularly care for peoria it used to be way trashier then what it is now it ain't gonna get no Better.
Just searched those towns up. I usually stay away from the small towns like that unless there’s something really interesting about them. If I focus on towns (which is what I do) that have at least some size to them I can do more videos on other areas of the country. Doing a video every town regardless of the size would take a century to finish, literally.
Previously I made I videos on Downtown and the southwest side. In this one I basically went everywhere else. West Peoria, North, Peoria Heights and parts of the East side. At first I called it, “the better parts of Peoria”, but people screamed at me and told me I was wrong. Lol.
@@ChrisHarden yes the “better” parts of Peoria were missed. The area out by Grand Prairie-Charter Oak. Also, further out Rt40 ( Knoxville Ave). In Peoria Heights you missed Grand View Dr. Time to come back! Lol. Enjoyed all your Peoria videos the change in music when you changed neighborhoods literally made me laugh out loud. Also enjoyed your Centralia video, my hometown, although depressing to see it now.
Thanks! I actually do need to go back though. Haha. It’ll be my third time. I need to get Morton and a few other towns out that way still. Not too much though.
You missed the northern part of Peoria where the nicer homes and safer neighborhoods are. Grand Prairie, Weaver Ridge, Lynnhurst. All the area North and West of War Memorial Dr. Also North on Knoxville, Allen Rd. Also check out Dunlap. These areas of Peoria are amazing and have great schools. Please give your viewers a better understanding of why we choose to live here.
23:24 is one block from my house. This is Hood and a good neighborhood except for that big brick apartment building on the right at this intersection that is the address to a great many sex offender. This neighborhood is called Heart of Peoria.
This was not the rest of Peoria!!! Grandview?? Even The Knolls??? That combines average homes to beautiful mansions?? Not impressed with this coverage at all!!!
No it does suck to live in Peoria. The taxes are way too high! Pritzker killed a lot of jobs with his shutdowns! Peoria hofbrau is for sale now! Should have told about the riot that happened in northwoods mall right when they started to reopen!
Riots are happening in many places. Brought on by disrespect for people that work for a living. You millennials suck. Too many unanswered futures paid for us taxpayers just so you could go to school and be educated under a marxist doctrine that tells you simpletons to do as you will. So stay home and live in poverty and play games all day in some basement somewhere. The rest of us are on to your shitty games and will keep moving along.
The Peoria-Bloomington metro area has always been pretty resilient in a lot of ways. The local economy is pretty tough and will hold long longer than the rest of Illinois as the Democrats destroy the whole State. Eventually though the area will be little Detroit, but other cities in Illinois like Springfield and Rockford and of course Chicago will be first.
