it probably has to do with calculating the half life of the materials :) you can pretty specifically estimate to the year how long something will remain unchanged (excluding environmental factors)
@@lavpine280 Emma Gaggiotti Richards was an Italian painter who was active in the United Kingdom and completed five paintings for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The Queen saw her self-portrait exhibited in 1851 (the painting in the video) at the Royal Academy and commissioned a second self-portrait which she gave to Prince Albert for Christmas in 1853.
I feel like this is a career I should've considered when I was young enough to make major career choices. Seems perfect for introverts who love art and science.
Same here. I have many female ASMRtist's I'm subbed to. This popped up in my recommended videos. I actually hit the tab by accident. I started watching, fully intending to go to another channel. That was about 4+ hours ago. This channel is just so interesting. I guess I'll watch it until the interest is gone or I run out of videos. Whichever comes first...
Yeah, Julian has allowed us mere mortals into a world which we would never see. And I'm so thankful for him taking the time out to do these vids for us.
I'd love to see the reactions of the owners after receiving the painting after it's been restored. Imagine being in possession of a piece of art that holds lots of sentimental value or emotional significance to you and it being in poor condition, but then you are able to see it as the original artist intended after Julian's incredible restoration
@@-lu-8863 The definition of sentimentality is “excessive tenderness, sadness, or nostalgia”. You could have a painting of a beautiful landscape of a place you’ve never been before, but if it reminds you of your home it could bring you intense feelings of nostalgia or longing. A piece of art doesn’t have to be a portrait or something with a deep personal meaning to capture someone’s deepest emotions😊
**Me on the couch devouring my eleventh mozzarella stick, burrowed in a blanket** I know right? Staples are inferior and should never be used. Shame. But humor aside, great video! These always help me relax and destress after a bad day! :)
Part of me thinks that it'd be terrible to watch. I'd be concerned that it's a stuffy art collector who half sneers and goes 'i suppose.' Like...lol you can't really bounce around and scream in an art studio. Lol
The major criticism of the recent cleaning of the Sistine Chapel ceiling is that the conservators removed layers of what was not accretions of dirt and grime, but painting a secco applied by Michelangelo atop the fresco that added volume and dimension to his figures. Have you ever encountered a situation like that, where a work was supposedly executed in one medium but had features added by the original artist in a different medium, that you had to be careful not to inadvertently clean away?
as an artist, i absolutely love what you do. conserving past masterpieces is reassuring that are history will never be forgotten or tarnished, hopefully
You did an amazing job, Mr. Baumgartner, as always. I bet the artist would've been happy to know how carefully and lovingly her work was restored by you.
Jason Voorhees I don’t understand what you mean. Have you actually watched any of his videos? Everything he does to these paintings is entirely reversible and he does excellent work. I don’t understand what you’re trying to say with these comments and I feel as though you may just be a troll.
That is actually a gorgeous painting. I'm not an art person, I usually don't get it, but this painting is simply beautiful. It's wonderful that it got restored to its old splendor. Thank you.
The very best thing about Julian's restorations is the paramount importance that he places on maintaining the artists' original intentions. His work is invisible and meant only to ensure that the art is maintained for future enjoyment.
OMG watching all that schmutz come off with the swab is so viscerally satisfying. I could watch an entire video just of you scrubbing grime off a painting.
Oh My Goddess, I had no idea the level a conservator must go in order to preserve such a beautiful work of art. My heart felt admiration on a job well done.
As an artist I think it’s fantastic you have created this channel to introduce to so many people the realm of restoration and dedication it takes to revive a piece to it’s former glory days
I enjoy your work, very satisfying to see a full restoration. But I’d also appreciate a little history about each piece. Who painted it, when, what style, who the painting is of, any symbolism, etc.
I dare not imagine how moving and gratifying it must be to work on such masterpieces.. One does not choose this profession without being passionate about art and giving new life to a work by a great artist must give boundless satisfaction! Congratulations to all those people who preserve our cultural heritage.
I really love your videos, and am always looking forward to the next one. If I may make a suggestion; I would like to see you give more of the history of each piece. Most specifically, when it was originally done, possibly some details on the artist and the style, and approximately when any other restorative work may have been applied. When I watch your videos, those are the questions that keep coming up. Please keep up the great work.
I'm blown away by the details to skin tone. The depth in the arm of the painting. It's so realistic. The hands.. The shadows.. The highlights.. It's amazing what artists are capable of.
Absolutely gorgeous work. I am always excited when I see a new video from Baumgartner Restoration. Something about the calm, assuredness of your voice along with the gorgeous paintings you reveal through your work always makes me happy.
What I dig about all this is no matter what you come across you are never bashing anyone for the things they did before you. You just pull your pants up and do what you can to make it as best you can to the best of your abilities.
That was beautiful. You can see you've done this for a good many years now as the separation lines were near perfectly invisible. It was a joy to watch.
I honestly feel blessed that I got here just 14 mins after it's been uploaded 🖖🏼💖 It's 10:45pm in the PH and I've just taken a short break from studying Organic Chemistry cause I have a test tomorrow, and honestly this has leveled me and made me take a breather from the stress of studying non-stop. Thanks for uploading (specifically) w/ narration 😋🌃📚
One day at a time, one foot in front of the other... You don't complete a marathon by running 26.2 miles. You do it by running one mile 26.2 times. You got this!
Was recommended by RU-vid to watch this, now hooked on this and watching all the other videos. I cannot paint but I am glad there is a baumgarter in the world..
