Currently they've got about 800,000 more votes than the lib dems, who have 66 seats and 12% of the overall vote. What I find remarkable is that all the people who moaned about the brexit vote, which is probably the most democratic national vote in recent times (every vote counted with equal weight) are perfectly happy with the general election voting mechanism which is designed to literally disenfranchise the majority of voters. In a correct voting system, the share of parliamentary seats should be apportioned according to overall vote share, not this corrupt mess which is easily dominated by two parties. Our current system was designed in the days when an MP represented the view of the constituents, whereas now they're only obligated to represent the views of their party leadership (or their own). This point was hammered home last night during the interview with Lewis Atkinson. When asked about Reform coming second, he dismissed it and stated that "I dont care who came second, third or fourth". Well he should, he's elected by a minority within his constituency to represent that constituency, so should care about the spread of views within it and should factor everyones views into his considerations during parliamentary voting. If he fails to do that and goes with the party line, well, sorry, that renders the voting process as an unnecessary farce and we have, in effect, a disguised dictatorship.

That puts them in a weak position, so Labour won't risk losing their power for another 15 years by doing anything too extreme. If they do anything dumb it will open the door for the Tories or more likely Reform to come in. They will scrap anything Labour does.
