In this intriguing episode of "Ancient Greece Revisited," we delve into the enigmatic realm of the Great Goddess, a divine figure whose influence once spanned from Ireland to India but now lies buried in the annals of history. Are we witnessing a revival of this ancient cult in the form of eco-fascism and the veneration of Dark Mothers?
As we explore the provocative themes of Andrei Voznesensky's Russian poem, "Darkmotherscream," we uncover the complex connections between the Great Goddess and contemporary eco-fascist movements. Through this investigation, we seek to understand the allure of these enigmatic ideologies and their potential implications for modern society.
Join us on a captivating journey into the world of the Great Goddess and the shadowy realm of eco-fascism, where ancient beliefs and contemporary ideologies intertwine to create a mesmerizing, yet disconcerting, tapestry of cultural expression.

Thank you very much for this comment. We are trying hard to promote our work, so anything anyone can do is a big plus. The introduction to this episode was very experimental by the way, it was unlike any other episode. We'll see how it was received in the comment section and judge accordingly.

“The Minoans of Crete weren’t the first to revere the Mother Goddess, but they might have been the last” - Śākta Tantra is an example of an uninterrupted, thriving Goddess tradition, with both peaceful Goddesses such as Lakṣmī and wrathful dark Goddesses such as Kālī Mā. “Man is the problem” - actually, humans lived in relative balance with our respective environments for the majority of our existence - only in the past 200-years or so (out of hundreds of thousands of years of human existence) has the industrialism of neoliberal capitalist vampires, nationalist dictators, and marxist-leninist autocrats begun to pose a serious threat to the environment. So, from my perspective, the problem is industrialism and top-down economics that allows a small group of oligarchs/billionaires/party leaders to unsustainably exploit natural resources to facilitate the concentration of absurd amounts of wealth and power to be allotted in their hands alone. Something like 47 cruise ships produce as much CO2 as 260 million cars. Fascism’s incendiary rhetoric feeds on long-standing ethnic, political, and nationalist prejudices (“the immigrants/Jews/socialists are destroying our nation”) to distract people from the actual problem (the vampires at the top of society), and scapegoat the fascists’ political enemies and minorities while reinforcing autocratic power structures. As a long-time devotee of a dark Goddess, I would personally be far more likely to offer my support to movements similar to the Zapatistas in Mexico or the autonomous Rojava state in Syria than to a nationalist movement (even an ecologically oriented one). She wants her children to embody her innate autonomy, not to become mindless slaves working for some ego-maniac’s eternal glory.

Fascinating and moving! I think you're absolutely right about your assessments. We keep thinking as a culture that we don't need nature or the Divine, but really it doesn't need us. If global warming destroys us, the life will go on without us. It's both comforting and horrifying!

For those interested in eco fascism I recommend: The Green and the Brown, How Green were the Nazis?, Blood and Soil by RWD, Can Life Prevail by Pentti Linkola, and I believe Archeo-Futurism by Guillaume Faye and The Lightning and the Sun by Sevetri Devi also touches on the topic.

Thanks! It seems that a few people here are. When we titled this video "eco-fascism" we did not mean, however, a combination of National Socialism and Ecology. I became aware through these comments that such a combination did indeed exist. But that was not what was meant. Rather, eco-fascism was meant in the "dictionary" definition of the term: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecofascism

This has nothing to do with eco fascism but the explanation of environmentalism through the lens of matriarchy and feminine insticts is great.

@alessandrazacco1806 3 года назад
Could you define what do you mean for eco fascism, please?
@user-jy8lc2vs3b
@user-jy8lc2vs3b 3 года назад
@@alessandrazacco1806 Well today the word fascism is totally misunderstood. The right way to use ecofascism is not about any authoritarian regime that forces society to repress itself for the environment. It's about fascist regimes, I mean governments with nationalistic and nativistic values that see the environment as the natural lebensraum of their nation.
@alessandrazacco1806
@alessandrazacco1806 3 года назад
@@user-jy8lc2vs3b I see. But, fascismo in the way you mean is mainly a historical category, which could, of course, come back under particular circumstances. I think that here we are talking about a sort of ideology, which puts at the center of every thought the environment, as if mankind would be something out of the environment itself. So, people who don't care about the relationship between mankind AND nature, or environment, and give more value to the environment only, disregarding human life, are, in my opinion, eco fascist. I add that the same people, when front a subjective or individual or personal dilemma, usually prefer their own Good or Interest, disregarding all the things they thought about nature and environment.
@user-jy8lc2vs3b
@user-jy8lc2vs3b 3 года назад
@@alessandrazacco1806 I see your point. I only disagree with the use of word fascism today. Fascism is a specific ideology. We must not relate Fascism with other ideologies because the word looses its meaning.
@alessandrazacco1806
@alessandrazacco1806 3 года назад
@@user-jy8lc2vs3b In this case I disagree, because, as I wrote before, Fascism is something to keep at distance ever: it never died, because democracy leaves people have free opinions.

A very interesting take on the green movement, that the earth doesn't need saving, we do. But isn't industry and technology the answer rather than the problem, it just needs to be done in a different way by competent people of both genders that are involved in industry. Isn't it about getting to the objective truth of what is happening and what is the most sensible way of dealing with it. I think these archetypes are still very powerful today as you say, and it's very useful to know about them so we can see what's motivating us, ie something other than the facts and rational thought.

Very interesting vifeo. It seems weird that feminist use nature as a femenine force against patriarcal capitalism. Also I feel a Rousseau inspiration in the new ecology movements. One question, does this channel has an idelogy? Are you romantic-fascist, or just interested in the old world?

@@AncientGreeceRevisited Interesting thanks for the link! I didnt know Castoriadis. He seems to have a Jungian approach similar to archetipes but specifically cultural except of a universal vision. As a spaniard, I would recommend you read Antonio Escohotado, he just died a few months ago and was one of the best philosophers of XX century Spain. He was very interested in the historical use of drugs and the greek world...He was linked to Ernst Junger work. I asked you about the romantic-fascist thing because I see in your channel a heavy Nietzche inspiration. The thing is that, having read the Birth of Tragedy, I find Nietzsche and the greek world a bit left wing (more than facist right-wing). For example Dionisian rituals have a clear gender bending spirit to it (Dionisos is portraited by Euripides as a femenine man with long hair), and even there are some feminist charachterics to the rituals (Menads are the opossite of patriarcal womans: Sex driven and violent). So all this Queer LGTB fashion I find it quite linked to the greeks.

Thank you for being so frank. One of the politicians that I follow here in Greece is a Marxist like yourself, who repeats publicly "I am not a Leftist, I am a Communist." There is an important difference that is pushed to the side in this new world order we seem to be living under. It seems that the oder borrows elements from various ideologies by neutralising their active ingredients. So now we are left with a "Left" that is NOT revolutionary; that is NOT interested in the people, and actually mocks many of their demands as "populist."

yeah, here in this part of the world they say "we're not left nor right, we work for everyone" or " we dont need a political party, we hate politics" Now, there are some honest people there with good intentions and others who dont the thing is, when they say they work for everyone well... that must includes the upper classes and the way of living and all that comes with it they hate politics well, thats a politics itself and here in my country i hear a lot "pachamama" mother earth, living harmony, like the people of old did and thats jus romantizacing the past Thanks for your answer and i suggest a book maybe you can read it in your spare time The infantile sickness of "Leftism" in communism Author Vladimir Lenin Greetings from Bolivia

I would like to ask you a question. Isn't the communist movement a huge part of the problem? Why to follow people like Stalin? Man, if there ever was a devil walking on this Earth, it surely was Stalin. Many crimes he and his crazy comerades were responsible for, one of them was Ukrainian Holodomor. Read about it. There is no excuse. Marx maybe had good intentions but didn't understand a thing about human nature and didn't understand the society as a well working (though sometimes ill) body, but imputed the war state to every circumstance of social life. His ideology let many politicians to worst concievable horrors. Communist rethoric is the agenda of people fighting against each other, turning "classes" not into one society but into enemies. Communism is a kind of horrible anti-human, though godless religion. I would say that this religion has sacrificed the biggest number of human lives in history. And what for? Look at China, Russia, North Korea and Vietnam, Cambodia, Venezuela and Cuba. Many people died and suffered humiliation, lager imprisonment (communist equivalent for concentration camps) and severe poverty, many cultures were destroyed because of these crazy monsters like Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Guevara and others... They were obsessed with the idea that the world should be set on fire by the means of revolution drunken in unimaginable amounts of human blood. They hated people who were happy to work hard for themselves and be the masters of themselves. Individualism and dignity of the individual human being was a crime in their eyes - often crime punished witb death sentence. They hated everything that can be called sacred: the right of self-possession, human dignity, freedom of speech, freedom to possess the goods and means, family bonds and bonds of frienship. People were encouraged to spy on one another! Thousands of examples, one of the most appaling was Pavlik Morozov case. Soon enough everywhere it was forced upon people it lead to poverty, economical ruin, ruin of morality and destruction of human relationships. I'm from Poland - the country that suffered much from hands of communists. Forced to live behind the iron curtain for many years, we still suffer the effects of decades of enslavement. Though I was born in 1986, I know what I'm talking about. The stigma of communist ocupation is still visible in many aspects of our politics, economy and social life. Polish workers, who supposed to thrive and profit from the communist system were put in growing poverty which lead to national protests in '50s, '70s, '80s. The prostesters were mostly simple workers, but also students and intellectuals alike. It proved that class didn't matter. Humanity matters all along. System that supposed to support the poorest threw everybody into deeper poverty. Free speech was severely forbidden... Nothing's worse that communism. It can lead to such great terrors that any other regime is not capable of. Orwell's "1984" seems to be a fairy tale in comparision to some of the greatest "achievements" of the communist oppressive regime...
