This short documentary, "The Return of California's Beavers", was produced, By Greg Kerekez for the Guadalupe-Coyote Resource Conservation District, to shine light on Beavers positive impacts to the environment, the miss treatment of beavers in California, and what we can do to Co-exist with Beavers.
Beavers are returning to California streams they haven't inhabited since the Gold Rush. By 1850 Beavers were almost driven to extinction in California. In the early 1900s they were considered Non-native to much of the state because no one could find any, and California's early natural history records were hard to come by after the 1906 quake. Turns out we were on the wrong side of history, with new digitized historical records from Museums and Universities, have helped researchers prove that beavers are native to almost the entire state! They save thousands of Gallons of water, curb erosion, and improve ecosystem diversity, yet nearly 4000 Beavers are killed in the state each year. California needs to do better by its beavers and encourage their inhabitance of historic streams. We can Coexist, follow the links in the credits to learn more.
