The Return of the CBR 600 Reverse Trike Project!

It's been a long time since you guys have seen this reverse trike build but today I'm working on trying to get it ready to paint and finish. I just need to finish a couple of things like install the radiator fan and rear brakes. I did want to originally replace this old CBR 600 engine with something better but I gave up looking for a better engine.

If you do replace the engine should look at any of the engines out of can-am trikes. They all have reverse and you can get 600cc for less then 600$ +shipping. They also have 900cc, 1000cc and 1330cc, plenty to choose from and can be found for "low cost".

Next time you park it for an extended time, drain the carbs! I left fuel in my generator for about a year and the carb was pretty much junk after that. Luckily a new carb is about $13 and in 5 minutes it was running great again. Now, after I use the generator, I run it out of fuel before storing it. No more issues.

Cool build, move the fuel pump lower, so it’s gravity feed by the tank and you see a big improvement it how well it works.

@Broken_AK47 Most inline pumps do need to be mounted lower than the tank. They don't pull fuel well, only pump. I found this out the hard way on my last buggy build, burning out 3 pumps until I read it up😂
@shaynegadsden
@shaynegadsden 10 месяцев назад
@@Broken_AK47 most electric pumps won't self prime their design means they don't create a lot of suction when dry hence why they are generally mounted below the fuel tank or at least low but here the pump is basically level with the top of the tank so might be fine when full or when used regularly but can't prime itself on low fuel after sitting.

To get a more efficient cooling I would keep more distance from the shroud to the cooler and build a frame around it. For the Temp.-sensor build a connector and put it between the cooling hose, so you don't need to drill a hole into the cooler and get metal particle into the system. Greetings from Germany!

Never coming to ur own conclusions. On a fundamental level never getting to ur own conclusions. Media, "officials" and "experts" will rip them things straight through ur spineless bodies. Generally why psycadelics more and more is getting used as psychopharmica and as treatments and used world wide but everything good for u now adays is illegal and made synthetic by a very few families owning everything u think u own and work for. And they wont be mentioned in any official media.. Sus to say The least, but obviously ppl just dont give a damn. Price increase by 500% - Who cares, ppl just keep buy and more of it, and think change just will come by voting on something time After time getting exposed as fraudulent and rigged.. But not next time or next person Who defenitly wont be a staged plant. Nope! Soon it literally will be too late, rights would only be a destant memory.. Leave it naked man, gives off a Ariel Atom vibe, I’d drill holes in the tubes and run the cables/hoses through them, make a panel above your knee with a visor to protect the gauges, add some ductwork to guide air into the rad and toss in a panel filter or some pods on the air intake, it might help with the stutter. Frame paint, yes bright red, and gold accents like the old school 90’s skylines had. Awesome videos, keep up the good work

I vote to change the rear suspension to some kind of 4 link set up. Now that it's standard wishbone suspension in the front, instead of the leaning over design it originally was, it needs something interesting going on with it. Maybe some kind of 4 link that surrounds two car wheels in the centre at the back. So basically like a giant 4 link swing-arm.

I think the coolant overflow tank needs to be higher so when it blows coolant into the tank the tank will fill up but not be able to self drain back into the radiator❤ probably get away with turning out the air mixture screws about half a turn to get rid of the bogging when you stab the throttle.

Just a friendly tip, when your going to let an engine that runs on carburetors sit for any length of time there's a proper way. Add some oil additive to the gasoline, my preferred is marvels mystery oil, and then start the engine up. Turn off the fuel line shotoff while the engine is running and let the carbs run dry. They will store way better this way. Hope this helps you have to tear them open less

This is why I think you should paint the frames before you are finished. The time you spend landing off rust is mire time than if you had to re-weld something that was painted. You need to space the radiator shroud away from the radiator some or you are just blocking off that area from air flow.
@HokusaiXL
@HokusaiXL 10 месяцев назад
Put some pod filters on the front of the airbox so it can't gulp more air than it gets fuel, and like a comment earlier said drop the fuel pump below the tank so it also gets gravity fed too.

for the radiator shroud for the fan, I've seen some with surplus holes covered with a half fixed piece of rubber to act as a sort of passive baffle in the even that the radiator is getting enough airflow that the fan is not producing a low pressure zone. Might be good to implement since the majority of the radiator is blocked off otherwise.

I'd try to make some pipes that fit the airbox openings and go in at least a few inches. Then at the other end they could be equipped with a pair of basic "power filters". The engine needs "resonance" in the intake to work at lower RPMs and especially to have a better throttle response right from the idle.

Keep hunting for a CBR600 f4i engine, the last engine based on the engine you have. In some countries this engine was available to 2012 or so (look at CB600 Hornets too with the upside down forks) Straight engine bolt in with EFI. Just make sure you get the ignition key with the security chip in it for the HISS. Otherwise you will be hunting for another ECU.

Paint it red and black. And the CV carburetor on that bike needs some resistance in the air filter box to work as they should, because the slide inside the carburetor is vacuum operated. so when you have almost none resistance, the engine will ned a high RPM to generate enough vacuum to rise the slides. try to put a sponge in the intake holes of the air filter box and se if that helps.

I like all your builds! Agreed that carb engines can be very picky. Synthetic fuel works great in anything carbed and stored for a period of time(alkylate fuel I think the kind i use). It has like 4 times the shelf life of pump gas. For seasonal equipment, i drain the bowl and tank. Run some of that thru it, and store it like normal. I haven't pulled a carb apart since I've started using it. You get it at equipment rental stores and it isn't cheap.

I use mistery oil in all my bikes, generators, and cars. Also add fuel stablelizer if keeping the fuel in the tanks. But i run it a little heavy on mistery oil before i shut it down to keep the carburetors lubricated, then i drain the fuel tank and each carb bowl if i know its not going to run for a while. Add some gas a year later, and my generators and bikes fire up every time without issue. And my bike is carburarated.

You might like to add a reverse gear. Using an electric motor for this is a simple option. The Semog cross karts do this very well using a small starter motor engaging with a sprocket mounted on an extension to the transmission output shaft. You can use the neutral indicator sensor wiring to make sure that reverse can only activated when the transmission is in neutral.

I have to admit that this is one of my favorites among the many projects you've worked on over the years. I still hold out hope that you might figure out some way to use the VIN number from the bike that donated the engine to get this thing titled so you can add the necessary DOT approved lighting (not all that complicated, I reckon), get it insured and registered for street use. I seem to recall that you were a bit less than enthusiastic about the idea in the past, but I suppose it's just a sort of dream of mine to see that happen.
