I say "return" even though my RU-vid audience has never seen it. The Twiddler is a hard drive motor out of an old Packard-Bell 486 that died many years ago. I soldered output jacks onto some of the wires so I could hear the signal generated by the motor coils when I turned the spindle. It's LOUD, even by modular standards, but I attenuated it and used it in a series of interrelated recordings back in the 2000s.
Now for your amusement I have pulled The Twiddler out of my junk drawer and recreated the basic structure of those old recordings, using my modular rig to do "live" what took several layers of overdubbing to achieve back in the day.
Furry cartoons and old MP3, including at least one of those original Twiddler tracks / tegerio

It did a lot more when it was a working computer. I had the original version of Cakewalk back when it was just a MIDI sequencer.

🎉Yay, The Twiddler!!!🎉 The simple genius of this device really tickles me. I'm very impressed by the playability and I can see how it fits into the same class of instruments as the saw. I really do hope it stays on the performance desk for a while, now that it's out of retirement.

I need to apply some compression or something to combat the "higher pitch = louder" problem which is inherent to the way this mechanical oscillator works.
