Remember that scene when Joffrey yelled at Tywin and everyone else in the small counsel including Cercei got really quiet and just stared at Joffrey?! Everyone knew and understood what Tywin was capable of. Joffrey was the boy king, but Tywin ruled Westeros.

'Any man who múst say "I am the King", is no true King'. Yes, brilliant shot. It gets confirmed even when Tyrion sits down in shock : 'You just sent the most powerful man in Westeros, to bed-without his supper' where Tywin replies smirkingly: "You're a fool if you think hé(King Goffrey!) is the most powerful man in Westeros'

Tywin's reply: "The king is tired. See him to his chambers". He actually means:"Get him out of my sight before I do something drastic". He sure knows how to express his views albeit subtly. Charles Dance deserves the small screen version of an Oscar for his brilliant portrayal of Tywin. And am I the only one who thinks the boy Tywin looks very similar to Joffrey? Maybe in a spin off series, Jack Gleeson(Joffrey) can be cast as younger Tywin.

Fawad Ahmed You seem confused; me too. It's a term used to wish good health to someone who has just sneezed, originally German, but used in English now too. I didn't use it in this way, but a secondary definition. It is also a turn-of-phrase used when someone doesn't understand something you just said, so someone using it (when you haven't sneezed) is jokingly saying they were confused (that they didn't understand your words so it's unknowingly the equivalent of random noises); made popular by a comedy sketch that I can't recall at the moment. Basically, you're previous comment makes no sense to me, I was curious to its explanation but made a joke out of it. I hope that helps clear things up.

Why would the Lord of house Reyne include in his surrender to Twyin that TWYIN's brothers would stay as hostages? That Lord should have offered a couple of his own family members to Twyin. That way Twyin would be able to go home with a couple of Reyne's ensuring that House Reyne would stay loyal.

Yeah, when i read that part i momentarily laughed then I was in disbelief. He has his back against the wall, stuck in a mine like rats and he makes retarded demands like that. No wonder Tywin ignored it and killed him. Throughout the entire story they were pretty condescending, disrespectful and audacious towards the Lannisters. Aaron James his ultimate goal wasn't just only to put down the rebellion, but to restore the reputation and respect for house Lannister. Tywin' philosophy and actions are eerily similar to what Machiavelli advices in his book "The Prince". On using force when necessary, you have to completely cripple your opponent, so they will never be able to get revenge. Furthermore it will strengthen his reputation, that he will always eventually get his revenge. Tywin is extremely focused on maintaining this reputation: "if they can hold my son with impunity we are no longer a house to be feared". As long as you don't fuck with him, he is consistent in how he treats his people - they know where he has him. He's doesn't give in to impulses. His record as ruler is also very impressive, as Hand of the King a period the realm enjoyed a prosperous not known for hundreds of years. He was even considered the true ruler of Westeros, and Aerys only a figurehead. Hence the Mad King's envy of Tywin that caused their relationship to deteriorate. An extremely rational and pragmatic ruler. "It's better to be feared than loved, if you can't be both" - Machiavelli
@kryztyn127
@kryztyn127 Год назад
Hes a great fool to demand a hostage. Yet even if he does offer hostages, doubt Tywin would accept. See keeping a hostage to ensure loyalty is only till the hostage is alive. A descendant can easily rise up. So what he did was a genius move of removing the whole family tree, roots and branches.

northernsupernova1 that’s right Rob won every battle but he ended up losing Winterfill, lose a lot of soldiers, and Tywin was planning one last attack to end him which Rob knew he couldn’t stand up against him; that’s why he marched back to the Freys seeking men from them. Then we all know what Tywin did to end the war without risking a single solider...
@adamantiiispencespence4012
@adamantiiispencespence4012 6 лет назад
+northernsupernova1 It's not entirely accurate to say that Robb outsmarted Tywin. Tywin's actions were the most practical given his position and the information he had to work with at the time. In a Dance with Dragons Tyrion plays a strategy game called cyvasse with Aegon. And he thinks that his opening is a typical young man's play in that he risks all for the quick kill. Even though he has already decided that Aegon is especially bright. Tywin expects the same impetuousness from Robb. Instead Robb uses disinformation from scouts so that Tywin fully engages a fraction of Robb's foot. This allows him to take his horse around Tywin. Post Greenfork Tywin doesn't directly engage any northern force because he doesn't want to be entangled with them in the event he is needed to relieve King's Landing. Essentially Tywin is removed as an active participant in the war against the North despite not having been beaten in battle himself. In the books talking to Sansa, Tyrion tells her not get her hopes up based off Oxcross because, "My Lord Father is not my Uncle Stafford."
@adamantiiispencespence4012
@adamantiiispencespence4012 6 лет назад
+northernsupernova1. 1. Thank you! 2. I agree I just felt the need to put forth the caveat that Robb had the benefit of being an unknown commodity and the fact that Tywin had a lot more potentially incendiary embers in the fire.

They were then reinforced by 6500 men from houses Plumm, Westerling, Stackspear and others. Walderan Tarbecks household knights counted 500 and the reynes vad 2 k men at tarbeck hall.

As for using streams and rivers strategically, Cyrus The Great did so when besieging Babylon which was then the capital of the Assyrian Empire. The city was protected by a massive wall and had a river running through it which went through a channel below the walls with water levels high enough to prevent any entry. Cyrus had the river dammed causing the water-level to drop dramatically and he slipped forces into the city at night along the vastly drained water channel under the walls.

Tywin Lannister, the king who didn't wear a crown, brought back is house from near ruin to being one of the most powerful (if not the most powerful) houses in Westeros at just age 19. Tywin is unique, he is one of a kind in a song of ice and fire. Probably the best player of the game, only matched by the likes of Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish and Lord Varys "The Spider". Clearly one of the most important figures in the history of Westeros.

If we take into account the betrayal of the Tyrell to the Gardener, from the Bolton to the Stark, and from the Frey to the Tully, Tywin was right to exterminate all the Reyne. They had three dragons which turned their king and his family and only one was required for harrenhall. They knew highgarden stood no chance against dragonflame. Tyrell never defied or betrayed Gardeners when there was a Gardener.

The Reyns and Tarbreks were on the side of the law . Their debts were forgiven and yet they were unjustly accused of treason by Tywin . Was their right to rise up against tyranny . This is also the reason of Robert Rebelion .

Nope they didn't. Their actions led to chaos and disorder throughout the Wasterlands. King Aegon V had to send royal forces to restore order thrice because of Tytos' weak leadership. Tarbeck and Reyne were one of the core causes of that instability since they were no fulfilling their duties towards their liege lord. Tywin demanded they pay their debts but they refused to do so. When Lord Tarbeck rode to one again convince his weak willed father to forgive the debt, Tywin imprisoned him. He did give those two chances to repay their debts and the terms were fair. Reyne and Tarbeck refused and that is why they were destroyed. I do no blame Tywin for his actions. Heck even the Starks were rutheless towards those that defied them. Look at what happened historically with the Karstarks and Boltons. Robert's rebellion occurred because Rhaeger kidnapped Lyanna and Aeyres burned the Warden of the North and his heir. The rebels did not do anything wrong. Tarbeck's and Reynes were the source of chaos and instability and endangered the entire Westerlands that Tywin dealt with. The Iron Throne was impressed with Tywin over his actions to restore order to the Westerlands and that was why he was made Hand of the King.

If the Reyne's were so wealthy I wonder why Tywin never re-opened the sealed mines. You'd imagine they had a pretty penny stored, and no way they left anything of value to loot in the exterior city.
@javierkumar2513
@javierkumar2513 5 лет назад
Dave Vd reopening the mines would mean creating a new threat for the Lannister’s as they would need to get another house to run the mines which would become as powerful as the Reynes were. Castamere is too far from Casterly rock to be directly managed by the Lannisters

A young Tywin series would be brilliant! However... just as Downton Abbey fans want to see a young Dowager Series and other GoT fans want a series about Olenna, there is a problem all of these share... What young actor could suffice, let alone be legendary as a younger version?
