I don't like either of the career choices, it doesn't sound ambitious enough nor challenging. Maybe psychology and going into research... What would be your advice for ENFJ with more high-end, modern careers? Like solutions architect? CTO? Scientist?

My advice for adolescence ENFJs: Try any form of teaching or counseling. We have one purpose and one purpose only as ENFJs. And that is: To foresee great potentials and help them to succeed at whatever is, they are trying to achieve. We're natural born leaders and givers. We're one of the most persuasive personality from the 16 personalities.

As 46 yr old ENFJ, with quite a bit of real life experience to pull from, I respectfully disagree with the advice that we should "be around people" in our professional life. The only way to realistically achieve the kind of autonomy, focus & flexibility we crave in our professional life is to work alone or amongst a small group. Imo, it's extremely important that we separate our professional life from our need to foster deep, meaningful, harmonious relationships with others. It's much more realistic & rewarding if we fulfill that need through participating in group focused hobbies & other personal life pursuits, rather than attempting to fulfill that need through our professional life. Why? Bc.. #1 we have the tendency to, inadvertently, go above & beyond, to out perform & show up our co-workers/colleagues, which inevitably leads to resentment, jealously & all manner of unnecessary drama. #2 it's nearly impossible to achieve the kind of autonomy, focus and, most importantly, flexibility that we need in order to fulfill our potential within an overpopulated work environment. #3 we're hardwired to help others, to form & foster deep, harmonious relationships. And it's nearly impossible for us to resist the urge to drop everything we're doing to help others, to disregard our own responsibilities, well being & long term success in exchange for others, to get distracted & caught up in the personal crisis of others!! ENFJ is synonymous with martyrdom!! My advice is get a hobby, host dinner parties or BBQ's, volunteer, etc... Whatever you gotta do to fulfill the people person side of you, do it separate from your professional life!!! That said, all the professions listed are dead on. I love politics, journalism & writing. I love art & music. I love designing & building things. I love mentoring & teaching. I love science & psychology. I love nature & adventure. I love individualistic sports.

Hmm… you’ve confirmed a piece of the proverbial puzzle I’ve been battling with for a very long time. Over-delivering in my job and business while working with people has become a big problem. For me, it’s not martyrdom - I genuinely want to lift everyone up equally without the fanfare but I inevitably underestimate other’s ambitions only to be thrown under the bus. Everything you mentioned is a heck yes for me!

this is spot on. I'm a 53 year old ENFJ and experienced the pitfalls you mention (and then some) first hand leading to a massive ass depression/burn-out that has incapacitated me for several years. I've made the enormous mistake of making my job my life and making my colleagues my 'people'. 'being around people' is extremely dangerous in my experience as an ENFJ because it's way too easy to be around the wrong people for us (I'm projecting my experience, I know, but I doubt I'm the only one facing this potential danger). Our tendency, need and drive to help others almost automatically attracts the needy, the opportunists, the narcissist and so on. I think a much needed skill to learn for ENFJ's is how to recognize healthy requests for help, how to provide help in a healthy way (as in wait till they ask for it lol ), how to identify their own needs and see themselves as part of the people they need to help/serve and how to communicate their needs to others and how to own their right to set boundaries and have their own needs met.

I am en ENFJ and somehow had the bad idea to become a tax clerk... the idea to work for the state and nevery get unemployed was attractive at the first time. But on the long run a very bad idea I tell you. I only have to do with numbers and figures all the day and have to apply very complex tax laws. Communication and creativeness tends nearly to null. Having a familiy makes things even more complicated. Changing everything is rather risky... My dream is to make achieve a master degree and somehow become a teacher... Me hearing this I think to myself I’m not doing a good enough jobs but the parents assure me otherwise. My co-workers as well tell me im doing a phenomenal job. Wow. I think I just realized something... I am an ENFJ and have been through different carreers in life, but after I completed my PhD, I tried staying on research, but it just didn't really flow... For a couple of years I had been looking for a position, to no success, it was hard. I then went back to teaching, which is something I love doing (and now at universities 🙂), and everything seems to be coming together... And I have just realized it might have to do with the fact that I am an ENFJ... Thank you so much for your insights ✨

@johnny_roots
@johnny_roots 2 года назад
@@ikrueate Hello my friend, thank you for reaching out. Concerning my work experience, I was an English teacher during my early and mid-20s, where I acquired "core" experience in the classroom. At the time, I was also graduating in Geography and then did my masters. After that, I went to work on a big multinational company (a NOKIA subsidiary), then I returned to university for my PhD - I studied air pollution, more specifically, the relationship between tropospheric ozone and land use in the greater São Paulo area. After that, I tried to pursue a post-doctorate and get research grants etc., but things were not really lining up. Then I found out I was an extroverted feeling type (we often mistype ourselves as introverts...) and remembered my good old days as an English teacher and decided that I should pursue being a lecturer, to focus on teaching at the universities instead of doing research, and since I ma de that decision, things have been flowing so much better. That was in the beggining of this year and I have already had a couple of invitations for teaching at universities and next year there's something great coming up as well! If I had to give you advice, I'd say to try to focus on something you have a talent for. Following only your passion can be tricky sometimes, but doing things only for money will leave us soulless... so finding something you are talented in doing (and that the world needs!) will open many opportunities for you to improve yourself and the world around you, and to open up more opportunities to find the best carreer where you can align your talents, get decent money and feel good about what you do! Don't worry about making a 'final' choice, you will have plenty of time to think about what you really want to do in life and be able to change your direction if you feel like it. If you identify yourself as an ENFJ, I'd suggest you try to look for positions where you can work in collaboration with others, a more stable environment and opportunities to improve yourself! But don't limit yourself based on personality type - there are many out there who defy the MBTI stereotype. What carreer are you more likely to follow? What subjects do you like, what do you like doing and what are you good at? PS: I have recently done an interview with an MBTI professional and it seems I am a mistyped ESFJ lol but still, an extroverted feeler anyway :)

@@johnny_roots Hey there, you have no idea how grateful I'm on getting insights from someone who's "already been there done that". I don't mean to be rude or anything but hearing your story just triggered my insecurities or whatever it's that I'm escaping from. To answer the question of, What I'm talented in or would likely want to pursue is the dilemma. Whatever you said about getting decent money or validation of some sort( I mean a little fame, lol) at the same time not selling my soul is the dream. But the dillema is my "Go Getter" attitude. My talent is I can learn new things quickly and adapt. While that sounds good on paper, compile that with an overthinking mentality and a bit of escapism. The answer that pops up in my mind is, "I'm talented at everything, I can excel at whatever the future has to offer me" That sounds good on text but, it doesn't come from the place of acceptance and confidence, rather it comes from my escapism and fear. And my major flaw that is "people pleasing". My whole life, I have been somehow strived to deliver the best to the people around me. My parents (I'm Indian, Asian parents like grades, LoL), well to somehow please them I studied to ace every tests. But it was still full-filling for me as I displayed responsibility and diligence in the process To my friends, they don't know a guy who parties and has fun as much as I do and gets all the grades. I was proud of myself when I realised I was a master in balancing different parts of life. But apart from all the good stuff, I feel like none of the stuff I accomplished was because I liked it, and you know why I can only see that now, lol cuz my perfect balanced equilibrium was broken when pandemic broke. I can't see my friends, hence I can't put up a positive attitude infront of them to feel valued, Grades relatively goes down in online classes, hence no validation from that, ergo I have no idea what I am "likely to pursue".😂 If you still think I can narrow down stuff, these are some of the things I can do: 1. I have been doing youtube for a few years, have a few 100 subs, but I privated all the vids cuz this was the closest self destructive activity that wouldn't physically harm me, I could do, I was just experimenting stuff, LoL. 2. Apart from RU-vid, and influencing people and stuff, it was possible because I also have a few years experience in Video Editing. 3. I can do theoritical stuff like philosophy and physics. Stoicism is something around my corner. 4. Have a refined taste of fashion and could do some modeling, humble enough to thrive in Hollywood. 5. Adrenaline pumping activities, like I can play soccer well, also I do some competitive gaming. 6. Anything that involves repetitive practice like Dancing, LoL I can do the moonwalk! 7. You name it, I can do it with some time. (except music composing or singing LoL, 0 music ability 😂.) And about the MBTI test, I took it 5 times, got the ENFJ, also now have the ability to manipulate the test results LoL, so I think I'm fine as an ENFJ. But I'm not surprised if some of my characteristics don't fit here because I know these results aren't absolute. And lastly, you were definitely mistyped cuz an ENFJ with a strong "intuition" would never say there was time to change directions later, we want it done, sealed and shipped right now.😂

My experience has really allowed me to not only discover what skills I’m best at, but what I also enjoy the most. For the longest time when I was younger I thought I would get into accounting because I’m good at it.... I just don’t love it. I felt like people projected it on to me because I’m good at math. Owning a business allowed me to dip my toes in a little bit of everything and I recognized very quickly that I would HATE being chained to a desk punching numbers 40 hours a week. I’m in the process of going back to school to get my MBA this fall and plan to eventually leave the restaurant and start my own career path in something more focused and specialized. The two things I would like to pursue are either something in HR or in Communications/Marketing/PR. I am good at and truly enjoy both job types. I would like to continue my work with the orchestra though on the side. What do you do?

I would LOVE to find a Place where I could use all my skills. The Dream work would be a advisor trainer in a big Company.

Things i have enjoyed that is never offered: AAA tow truck driver- get to "rescue" stranded motorists and help them at a difficult time in their lives. Plenty of positive affirmation from members and leadership. Continually learning and perfecting skills. Retail-i got to help customers find merchandise. I saw customers searching and i got to help them get what they needed. To this day i see people in a store searching, i can't help myself from volunteering to help the person find what they need. Practical consideration is retail doesn’t pay as well, but a lot of satisfaction helping others. Towing paid better, and i miss it a lot. Negatives for the towing with a private small company is more adversarial working with impounds and payment collections. But if working with police calls, get many unique accident situations that keep the work interesting. Disliked a lot of corporate work to meet "arbitrary" metric quotas that didn’t make a lot of sense.

Your video is helping me so much right now. I have followed my passion all my life and never cared about my personality type. I am so extremely often pushed to my limits and have felt unhappy. For the past few years I have known that I am ENFJ and everything is changing. I'm currently switching from Design & Art Director more towards Product Management, where I A have the opportunity to let off steam creatively, and B see my personality satisfied because of the user tests and user interviews. And I'm looking to get into a non-toxic environment. Your video reaffirmed for me that it's the right path. As the mandalorians would say, "This is the way!". Thank you for your incredibly great video!

I used to be in a community relations office but the conflict and political drama made me change my career to be a project based researcher wherein we are rewarded based on our performance and at the same time makes us learn a lot of new discoveries and knowledge through our research findings. Bonus is that I am around people whom are collaborative and really works as a team.

Really cool video! I was watching it just to make sure that the career I chose isn't the wrong one. I am an independent musician, I love to write lyrics and open up, show my scars in front of other people so they can relate and they can feel safe knowing that they are not alone. I love expressing and discussing about thoughts and feelings although I discovered this side of me in my early 20s but even before that I was obsessed with equality, global peace and harmony (and hating authority) also expressing those through music. The only difference between global scale, political and social lyrics and very personal and honest ones being that the impact of the second type was palpable, I could have seen happy faces and even people coming to me saying "look, your music stopped me from ending it" and for me that thing is priceless. No money can buy the happiness that I feel in those moments. But because bills have to be payed and guitar strings don't grow in trees, I am forced to work in a corporation because where I live is almost impossible to survive on music. I test video games in a friendly environment with nice people (but for ENFJs all people are nice) just so I can keep doing what I love. Music, helping people and bringing people together for good causes. I was thinking getting into politics, maybe run for mayor for my hometown. But as you said, politics are full of conflicts and the kind of politics I would do would be out of the "normal" zone. (I guess I'm still an anarchist after all). Thanks for reassuring me that all those years were not in vain!

You hit the nail on the head with the career opportunities. I started my career as a journalist. I wanted to get into Corporate Communications, but fate first put me through 4 years of content writing. But it was a blessing because when I got into internal communications two years ago, I could research and create content on subjects I had no idea about and enjoyable to read as well 😁. For me personally, I would never go for teaching as a profession simply because I don't have the patience to deal with students. Great video. Please keep them coming. 😊

I am currently getting a bachelors in Family and human development and I have been trying to figure out what I want to do for a really long time :( I feel lost but I’m in the wheel house for what I want to do. I have considered teaching, social work, counseling. I love crocheting, helping people, science, and connecting with people. I was a server for awhile at Olive Garden and loved it and now I’m a barista/trainer at my current job at Starbucks. I have volunteered at schools to see what social work and teaching is like and I’m interested in it but still haven’t had my light bulb moment. I also don’t know what degree to pick in order to get where I want to go because I can’t afford to go back to school. This is my only shot to pick a career. So I’m between being a LCSW and being a college teacher for human development. I’m just worried about money and work environment and location

Brilliant. 😊 Thank you. Anecdote: I thought I wanted a career in law enforcement. I was able to go through the bootcamp police training, and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and working in the team. However, I realized that in the long run I would have to sacrifice my creative dream, and in the end, even though I completed the program, I changed my career goals. Now, I'm working towards pursuing writing and media as a career, and I have to say, I haven't been happier. 😊 My close friends and family also feel I've made the right decision. Just retired from an amazing job advising college students in my own college major, (graduated myself at 40, so re-entry students, whom we had a number of, were my faves) However, the admin bit was not my best thing. Hated the rules, plus general gpa calculations, etc. Paperwork killed me. I was always a perfect rep for the cause (the University, the learning, the professors, and truly loved that part of it.) But now looking for a new way of helping people that doesn’t involve the structure quite so much… Never wanted to be a “Counselor” at large, but dang that’s where my personality type always falls. We’ll see.

I've been considering a freelancing career in Copywriting because I want to work remotely while traveling, but to your point - the social and helping aspect needs to be satisfied in order to enjoy my profession and my day-to-day activities. Do you think this career choice can be fulfilling in that way? (You mentioned it as an option under the Creative pathway, but wondering if it's the best choice.) I'm currently in Project Management but I work on technical improvements and training others in new tools. The training and support aspect is definitely where I find the most fulfilment, but the work is a bit boring and I don't get enough FaceTime...so I'm currently finding ways to work in Communications internally to build some experience in that area. I also love the Coaching idea, but I don't think I have enough experience in one particular field to be confident in that yet. I'm also writing fiction on the side to satisfy the creative yearning, and I've started hosting a writers group so that I can connect with other writers and fill that supportive role. An editor and writing coach could be in the cards one day, too, and I love the idea of becoming a Media Producer/Director or Video Editor (Too many options!! arghh)
