I have gotta say you are an awesome teacher. I hate watching “How To” videos on RU-vid where guys claim to be showing or teaching viewers how to do something but explain it as if they are talking to their buddy that knows just as much as them. Thanks for this content

Drove a cat c15 w a s430 air tech turbo and it’s honestly a sweet setup. At 38psi it pulls perfectly without putting too much strain on the motor, it held the 38 psi all the way to the top without breaking a sweat 🔥 video will be posted soon in my channel

A Borg 82/'gated 1.32 has been awesome for mine. Finally runs nice and cool and no lag, and cruise boost is comparable to the Garrett 1.42.

The 1.45 housing on a 14.6L Cat, they need 1550+ rpm to run the best, and keep EGT's under 900* cruising.

I had a 3406E 550 and could spin the compressor wheel off a cat turbo in 2 weeks. Had to put a Holset 1919 on it. After 2 years I spun the compressor wheel off of it.

Hay! So glad I found you! Wondering about what I should do with my 1999 3406e 9WR marine engines. Not sure if I should stick with cat parts specked for the 800 hp rating. Though also not sure if someone has worked on tuning already. Trims are NOT all 5s. Cat tech says they’re not cat turbos. Guess I’ll have to look closely at the next 1000 hr service. We’re doing 100% at 2300 rpm according to the last sea trial with ET. Not sure we’d want to push them more. Did just get new Veem props (speced by Veem for the sea trial data). They have a somewhat adjustable pitch via Veems special insert at the trailing edge. Any general suggestions for turbo and injector selections with these 9WRs?

I have a 2001 550 6NZ, with stage 1 bully dog! Motor was just completely out of frame rebuilt! Going to put a 800hp marine cam! Should I use the 78mm with a matching hot side? Thanks billy

It depends on the situation, see below: For a relatively stock (maybe just a tune) 14.6L Cat - the 1.32 is ideal. It spools up fast but still is large enough to flow up top. The 1.32 is plenty on a 78MM for anything under 600HP (Again, only talking cats, not engines in general). For a truck with a real hot tune or some light upgrades, this is when I would recommend the 1.45. (anything under 650HP) The larger housing slows down the shaft speed and lowers drives pressure. Still providing plenty of boost pressure and additional flow up top over the 1.32. By going with a larger housing, you are basically shifting the powerband up further. IF you put too large of an exhaust housing on your turbo for your setup, your will have turbo lag and suffer high EGTs until you get the turbo into its workable range. Hope this answers your question.

If you’re talking about the K31, no - it won’t fit, they use different turbine wheel sizes. Only wastegated housing that I am aware of that’s going to work here is the 1.65 (174962)

I have a twin turbo c15 set at 600hp. Im looking to get faster boost and better pulling. Do you offer any advice or a set up for mine.

Hi Michael, the stock acert compound turbos should spool up very fast. If they are sluggish, you may have a boost leak or other issues going on. I would recommend having someone take a look over it for you

Pretty much. Main difference between the two, is width of the shaft bearing spacing.

the 11 blade only comes in a 75MM. If you'd like a higher blade count, you can do the BorgWarner SX-E in a 76MM or 78MM, both are billet 10 blade wheels.
