Hi I just bought a lavender plant from a nursery nearby and from my observation, lavender and rosemary are similar to each other in terms of their appearance and their growing methods. May I ask if you ever tried to grow lavender before and if you have any interest in other “foreign” crops to our native such as chamomile and any other flower/herbs? Thank you 😄😄

Hi ! Thanks for the note. I saw lavender at our local store here and i really would like to try growing too! But haven't been able to as the rain here has been massive and yes i believe lavendar and rosemary are similar in terms of care. But one will hv flower. I'll try lavender when the weather gets better here. If you hv any tips let me know :). I love chamomile! I actually bought a pack of seeds but nothing germinated. I'll probably get a seeds pack to try again. I love chamomile flowers. What other crops would you suggest 💚

All my rooted herbs die after transplanting into soil. I tried mixing my own soil too with sand. Can I use loose gravels the size of perlite or must it be perlite only? Do they serve other purposes apart from improving drainage and airiness?
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday 2 года назад
hi there. I have not used sand but yes sand and gravels are good for drainage and you can opt those instead of perlites for sure. But I believe the transplant stage is most fragile stage hence you would have to keep your plant well saturated until the rooted cutting establish itself in the new soil and pot. I would suggest just like how you would care for a transplanted plant, keep it away from strong sun, just bright enough to let the roots settle in but always maintain moisture for your soil so that the roots will not dry out. Once you see the plant standing well and upright, move it to the right spot for it to continue growing. Hope that helps!

@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday

Rosemary are quite heat tolerant. They do fine in temperature range of 30 celcius. The common problem i face is when the weather becomes too wet and lack of sun. Rosemary will start to have issues for me. Yes I use coco peat in soil mix. It makes potted plants a lot lighter and balances moisture well.

If it started outside, it will most likely die, but if you keep it inside from a baby it will thrive in your sunniest window, (or move it around where the sun is hitting at the time). I have an inside basil, thyme, rosemary and mint and they are perfectly happy. I live in New Hampshire! I tried to bring my huge rosemary inside when it got cold and it died within a week. So I bought a baby and I’ve kept it inside since thanksgiving

Oh..interesting I haven't heard of tht but typically once trimmed you will have to wait for the new shoots to grow. It's best to monitor the plants growth daily to decide the next cut. I like to fertilize with compost or humus fertilizer

Hi..does the soil mix for growing rosemary work for lavender? I live in borneo.
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday 3 года назад
Hi! I have not grown lavender but I just read about it, it also requires a very well draining soil and one that dries out before watering again. If that's the case, any form of soil mix that is fast draining would be ideal. In this mix of mine, I throw in a lot of amendments to help drainage. So yes you can use this, you can also improvise so long water drains out fast. There are some success with just cocopeat and perlite too but in this medium, you may need to supplement with more nutrients.

What do you do about rosemary mites?
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday 3 года назад
hi.. oh no... when a rosemary plant gets mites, it's a lot of work. From my own personal experience, i rather chop and trim (if not serious) or start a new plant (if very serious). Because the rosemary leaves are tiny... I just feel there will be a lot of work. Typically for mites, the solution is mild soap and water... you can google up and hope it works for you.
@parrotsandmore7446
@parrotsandmore7446 3 года назад
A few tablespoons of olive oil, fill the spray bottle with water, add enough dawn dish soap to disperse the olive oil for at least 30 seconds. Shake and spray the leaves. Do this every few weeks and it will keep the leaves beautiful and slippery to pests so they go else where

HI can i use this way for thyme?
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday 2 года назад
hi there! Sorry I have not grown thyme before but from experience most herbs do well in well draining soil. You can add lots of drainage materials in your soil like perlites, coco chips or pumice stones, sand , rice husks any other drainage ingredients you have access to. In any case, dont use clay soil but use a planting potting soil. The idea behind added drainage is simple... whenever you water your herbs in pots...water will be able to drain because there are gaps in the soil created by these drainage materials. This way your plant roots will not suffocate and is able to breathe, you will not cause rot to the plants as well. If you can achieve this, most plants or herbs will do ok :)

Hello. Awesome vid but i have some questions:1) Does your potting soil mix contain peat moss? 2) Can you use Coco peat/composted manure as a potting soil instead? 3) If not, would a miracle gro potting soil mix in the USA work in its place? 4) How much do you water this plant? Thanks.

@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday 2 года назад
Hi. Nope i don't hv peat moss in my soil. Also coco peat and composted manure sounds ok to me because i would use coco peat with compost most of the time. Composted manure shld be high in organic matter and tht matters for any kinda plant. Watering should only be when top soil has dry.

Thanks for the Rosemary video. May i know if the potting mix i bought consists of perlite and compost . Do i still have to add those separately? Will the same compost applicable to mint, peppermint, lavender and sage?
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday
@GROWSOMETHINGGREENtoday 3 года назад
You can test your potting mix and see if the drainage works well? If it works well, then i think you can happily use the existing potting mix. Some premixed cactus soil are already made to be well draining, you could use those too. Very well draining soils are good generally for most plants but bear in mind some plants are very needy of water. I would say mint needs to be watered often (if you have them sit out under the bright sunlight). Hence if you use this very well draining soil, you may have to give mint a bit more showering as the water drains and dry out fast too, not keeping enough to sustain a thirsty mint. So use it according to plant needs, and then provide the necessary moisture for each.
