Synopsis:
While the passionate debate over the legitimacy of Marriage Equality in the United States rages on, the LGBT community continues to fight for their slice of the American dream. Powered by media, religion and influential anti-gay organizations, the civil right of marriage continues to be held just out of reach for many LGBT citizens.
"The Right To Love: An American Family" chronicles one story of courage born out of the highly mediatized and controversial Prop 8 2008 election results in California. A private Californian married gay couple and their two adopted children fight back against discrimination, ignorance and hate through home videos posted on their RU-vid channel, 'Gay Family Values'. As they pursue their American Dream, the opposing political, social and religious opinions that pervade society attempts to strip it from them.

First scene ripped out my heart that it happened. If I watch this movie, I'm not going to lie, it's going to be really hard for me to watch the struggles. It will probably hurt a little more because I know you guys and have followed you for...almost a year now. I love you guys to death and I'm so glad they made a film about you.

It really hurts me when I see polls on Gay marriage. I feel ashamed when there is a significant proportion of voters who vote 'no'. They are obviously not gay and are directly interfering with matters that do not affect them per se. I am not gay but I only mention this fact to let you know that you have my support in your struggle. I look forward to watching this film.

Sexual Futurist loves this video. "Civil marriage is a civil right" says it all. If we all persevere this will get better. I remember a time in my own state when whites were not free to marry native Americans.

Being subbed to you for so long I feel like "we" have come a long way. oh I know in actuality it was you coming a long way and me watching you grow...but I just want you to know I am very proud of you. I am old enough to have kids your age and I would be so proud to have to sons as loving and giving as you. I tried many years ago to adopt a child...just couldn't be done in those days. In a way I have lived vicariously through you. Stay strong...stay loving....continue to know you are blessed.

Hi, my name is Phillip, i stumbled on your videos on accedent exploreing RU-vid. I’m still very new the gay community. I came out to my mom about 3 months ago and slowly told everyone in my family branching from her; at times it was very hard, sometimes to the point that I just wished I never said anything to anyone. I was always scared of not being accepted. But I pushed through it! I’m ready to find someone to share all of who I am with. someday I wish to have what you you two have together.

Thanks for making a momumental and important film that the world has to see. I must say I had tears to know in this world people should have the rights to love and be truly as a family unit regardless of orientation, it just makes no human sense that the law is in the way of all that is good intentioned.

Thanks for posting...I can't help but wonder what straight people (the haters) would feel like when denied the right to legally unite with the one they love. Here in South Africa, gay marriage is legal, but my partner is American. Someday we may want to head back to the States, but if gay marriage is not legalized, I guess I will be deported back to SA as our marriage will mean nothing there. I can't imagine. Keep up the great work, you are being watched and cheered on from around the world.

A family is a group of people who love each other and gender should not be an issue. Everyone in this nation should have the same rights to marry, love, and be with thte person they want to be with. Enough of the freaking government or some polls telling us what a family is. I know what family is. We all should have first class citizenship, not just some people. Enough discriminaton and more love.

I know I am just one person writing on here and it may not make a heck of a lot of difference but, the past of your video I liked the most was the prayer. I just wish we lived in a world where people could understand that we arn't all the same but that is OKAY! We don't all have to be gay or straight, religious, not religious or what ever we choose to do (with in reason of course.) People need to learn how to view things differently but still get along. Why is it so hard?

a family is a group of people connected by blood, marriage or adoption. how do these families show destruction? theyre talking a load of rubbish and its disgusting. it breaks my heart to see how much destruction prop 8 has caused. every time i watch this video i just want to scream at them to change it. im so sorry for all the trauma that your family, and many others like yours, have had to suffer. my heart goes out to you all

@brndnrckn Well as an agnostic and a libertarian I think Marriage should be for whom ever wants it. Be they straight, lesbian, bi, transgender, christian, Buddhist, wikkian, muslim or jewish. I just don't want my government recognizing, getting involved with or issuing a license for a religious ceremony. I was always taught that if you didn't bring enough for the whole class don't bring it at all. And if the religious fanatics of the world can't share... then take it a way from them too. N0H8

@depfox Remember I wrote you about this 2-hour (or 5-hour) loophole? That's probably it. Apart from that, RU-vid blocks your videos pretty randomly. There are few videos we CAN watch. The same goes for Sam's videos. I contacted RU-vid and the relevant German authority, but nothing really changed. I wish more Germans would vent their discontent on RU-vid & Co.

The Gay community is frequently accused of seeking "special rights" -- but I ask all reasonable people: What is more special, than EXCLUSIVE rights? .. you know the kind, the kind of rights straight people have and enjoy everyday without a second thought.
