The real criticism is why did they decided to write that "ploy" and that scenario knowing how conflicting it is not just with the lore or what Tolkien wrote, but even with the wider interpretation of general audiences that know some but not everything about these stories... they view the relationship a certain way... The reason why the decided to do this is pretty simple and has very little to do with the story or it being "the only way" to write those scenes; the reason was purely: shock value and to elicit a reaction (a negative one and they knew it) from viewers inside of the framework of a very "amercan" dramatized way of presenting the show and those scenes... Like I said, they could had taken that story line many different ways, specially since they aren't even worried about sticking to canon, and they decided to do that... Yes, given the scenario that THEY THEMSELVES presented, it is a ploy to pass that item to Galadriel; so yes, that CAN make sense... The question is, why take it to that situation in the first place?

I totally understand how the idea of an actual romantic relationship between the two would very much come into conflict with the lore, given that Elrond marries her daughter, and Elves seem to mate for life. But I don't see how what actually happens - him kissing her as a distraction, seemingly without any romantic attraction on either end - does. Would love to hear your thoughts!

@@hbarzun19 My argument was actually that it conflicts, more importantly, with the perception that both: tolkien readers of the lore and semi-regular viewers know and expect of the relationship... but in reality it does conflict with how Tolkien described certain aspects of how the elves show affection and what they don't do outside of the very committed forms of marriage and "once in a life time" love... But like i said, that isn't the main issue... The main issue is perception, which is the whole basis of their decision to include that sequence of events and, after, the whole basis of a fair criticism towards that scene... THEY KNEW it was controversial and they knew WHY IT WAS CONTROVERSIAL... So out of all the ways they could had wrote these events, they chose probably the top ranking way to create controversy and shock PURELY for the sake of shock... Why do I say that? Well, i will ask you this: What does this actually do for Elrond and Galadriel's relationship progression? And I mean specifically the kiss in the mouth with the time the kiss took and the music and all of it; not him trying to save her, not him saying sorry to her for not trusting her, for being harsh on her, none of that... You could've done all of these things, that actually progress the relationship and the characters WITHOUT the kiss... Like I said, I understand that if you place yourself in a vacuum in that scene, you can argue that things make sense, that the kiss makes sense because of the ploy, that Galadriel's reaction works in some way for you, that maybe the timing of the kiss or the music don't really strike you as odd... You can make those arguments... But the problem is, WHY THO? 🤣 there are many avenues they could've taken with it and they decided for the more controversial one FOR NO REASON; there is literally no reason that backed them into a corner where they just had to write a kiss scene between those characters... They are not even constricted by lore because they simply don't seem to care about keeping it canon, so they have all the freedom in the world to write anything and they decided to lay out a series of events that ended with Elrond having to kiss Galadriel in order to slip something into her, and they did so (unless you have a more important and forgiving reasoning to give me) simply for shock value for the viewers, and not in a positive way IMO... they knew that the shock was going to be mostly negative; like I said, even outside of the hardcore lore "enforcers", there is a larger group of regular fans that view their relationship a certain way and with varying degrees of knowledge about these characters, and at best, most of them where slightly confused and kind of taken a back (like Erin) by that scene... That's my issue with it: YES, you can rationalize it; but like with many many things in the show, the question is, WHY do we have to rationalize it like this?... Yes, you can scratch your head and maybe come up with timelines to explain Elrond's movements and travels, but why do we have to wonder if Elrond has a teleportation ring that allows him to jump from a scene on lindon in previous episodes to a scene on Khaza dum to a scene on Eregion all in the same episode while the orcs have apparently been camping there for a couple of episodes already (when Elrond starting running towards Lindon)

@@Alewaxon appreciate the response. I don’t really agree with your points, but I respect your opinion. For me, it worked; I could go on about why, how it came together to make a compelling scene in my view, but that would take a while. Also I don’t agree that explaining why a scene worked for you as trying to rationalize it. The show totally got me too; my jaw dropped and I was thinking “what the fuck?”. But in my book, shock value isn’t inherently bad; shock is exciting! After pausing the episode and taking a second to think about it I just kept going. And on further reflection I still like that scene. I’ve even come to appreciate it more with time. Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t have liked it if they did something different. Doesn’t mean that’s how I would have written it if I was in charge. But hey, I’m not a writer, so wtf do I know. Hope you find some enjoyment in the rest of the season.

I'm sorry I'm a regular viewer and the kiss immediately felt weird when it happened because the show set up their relationship a certain way but as soon as the camera pans to Elronds hand I knew it was a ploy to help Galadriel. Does the show have problems for sure but people are getting mad just to stay mad at this point. The kiss is and should Not be this serious

Canonically, the oldest elves know exactly who, and what, he is. Gil-galad, Elrond, Galadriel, Cirdan all know Sauron is a Maiar. He just disguised himself so well through sorcery and deception that he fooled the Elves a number of times throughout their history. I just wish they could give context to his being. He is way, way more powerful than he leads on and that Vickers has even eluded to in his performance.

I'm hoping that we see Gil-Galad give his ring to Elrond before the end of the series, especially if (as I'm hoping) we get to see the founding of Imladris in the wake of Eregion's destruction. (Unless it's confirmed at SOME point that the Stranger is in fact Gandalf, I don't think we'll see Cirdan giving his ring to Gandalf.)

Or maybe it's not really good, otherwise they wouldn't hate that, dont you think? A lotta people during rings of power dont just turn their brains off and actually listen to this one of a time dialogue

@@shivanshsharma7834 I do agree that it's some sort of an upgrade, I'm not one of those guys, that hates everything they see, before every episode I'm telling myself "this episode is gonna be good, you're gonna start loving it" but i can't get over most of the dialogue that is keepin me from liking it, the action was for most of the time sweet true

Honestly, people hate this show as if they were adopting the bible into an mcu like franchise, the hardcore tolkien fans are the only ones crying about it, and sometimes their cry get's spilled into the regular folk watching it

Edwards better get a nod from somebody. Holy Hannah, his portrayal is so heartbreaking and raw.

Season 3 will be the full corruption and fall of Numenor. Season 4 will be the rise of Gondor and the spreading of Sauron’s will as he conquers the kingdoms of Men. And then season 5 will be the final battle we see at the beginning of the fellowship of the ring.

@@samuraiko I would honestly be very surprised if they did. House of the dragon was the more critically acclaimed one and they got some recognition and yet none of the actors even got a nomination - and that’s for its first season which was generally more well regarded. Even Game of thrones in its golden years though it was pretty beloved and was getting the big awards and acting nods but Peter Dinklage was the only one to win. I did love Charles Edwards performance this ep, possibly best in the whole show and would like to see it acknowledged, but realistically I think the chances are sadly slim.

Celebrimbor didn't actually toss her either! He was trying to pull his hand back away from her but Annatar basically threw her off at that exact moment making it seem like Brimby threw her.
