Floyd Mayweather is the reason boxing fell. He took the sport from the top fighting the top in their primes to picking and choosing fights based off his money. By the time the fights actually happened the expected fights didn’t live up to it.
The production was on another level. Nothing comes close to this day. The music, the commentary, the fighter profiles. Even the ending credits. Everything was top notch.

Emanuel Steward another pioneer of this sport, was always on HBO. When you bought a PPV you knew you’d be getting the best fights and the best commentary.
I loved everything about HBO Boxing, the presentation, the music, the intro, the professionalism from the commentators and analysts, HBO Boxing truly was the pinnacle of presenting the sport of boxing. HBO boxing is what got me into boxing even more. I remember me, my dad, and brother would always watch boxing on HBO every Saturday and some of the biggest fights on PPV
HBO Boxing truly was the gold-standard! - HBO PPV / TVKO - HBO World Championship Boxing - HBO After Dark Boxing George Foreman, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roy Jones Jr. Oscar De La Hoya, Lennox Lewis, Bernard Hopkins, FMJ & Manny Paquiao will always be there biggest boxers. Showtime Championship Boxing Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield and FMJ was there cash-cows!
Watching HBO boxing with my father are some of the most comforting memories I have of him. He passed his love of boxing on to me and he could always get me to drop my busy young man’s life to come over on a precious weekend to share watching the fights with Dad. I sure do miss watching boxing with him.
I think Warner should’ve pivoted and moved HBO Boxing to under the TNT brand instead of canning it completely. Same great storytelling and presentation, more eyes on the product, highlight fighters on the rise, secure the occasional big time fight etc. Have a “Inside The NBA” style studio show featuring boxing legends breaking down the sweet science.
Thank you so much for making this. HBO boxing was a staple of my life for almost all of my life. I still watch the old fights that I recorded just so I can relive that magic that it was.
I’m a young boxing fans who frequently watches prior fights on RU-vid. It’s hard to watch any version but HBO’s. The loss of hbo boxing is a massive blow to modern boxing.

Floyd got tired of disrespect coming from HBO. Especially from Jim Lampley and Larry Merchant. He knew he was the money and ppv guy so he went to their competitor Showtime and after that it went all down hill for hbo.
So many memories and so many fights I got to watch with my dad on HBO and HBO PPV. Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, De La Hoya, Trinidad, Cotto, Mayweather, Pacquiao, Morales, Marquez, Corrales, Gatti, Chavez
Huh??? To my understanding Richard Shaefer whom was Golden Boy’s former CEO helped Al Haymon steal majority of De La Hoya’s Golden Boy’s fighters and took them over to Showtime. De La Hoya was in Rehab. IDK how Shaefer is still breathing TBH. But IMO that was a stake through HBO’s heart and what helped crumble it to it’s death. It still trips me out how people don’t talk about this heist, like it’s a controversy that boxing people are too afraid to talk about.
Lampley actually started with HBO when he called the Tyson vs Tony Tubbs fight in 1988. Then he did the fights against Spinks, Bruno, & Williams. That was my prime boxing period lol. Great video!!
I miss HBO boxing terribly to me. They did the best job in marketing the fights the fighters to me that is something that is severely lacking in today’s boxing as someone who loves the sport I hate to see that.
I remember being young and all my family would gather and eat and drink together to the voices of Jim lampley, Emanuel Stewart, Larry merchant and the occasional scorecard of Harold letterman. Those were the days. Also legendary nights was a good show too.
@@andrewmarshall3519 i agree. HBO had better match making but they also robbed more fighters than any other organization. Fighters have more leverage now and Mayweather paved the way.

@sonang7721 exactly!!! We're watching the demise of the whole entire sport. And you can pinpoint moments when it took huge blows. It's sad to see. I would be over the moon if they even brought back Tuesday night fights.
They was brilliant but their big mistake was ignoring the heavyweight division when it wasn't ruled by Americans, they basically dismissed the heavyweight division when Klitschko's was on top and they paid because US attention not on heavyweights still hasn't recovered since and boxing suffered because it's the heavyweights that draw in the most.
I was a amateur boxer in the 70s in Washington state and the northwest Golden gloves tournament would draw hundreds of b9xers from across the northwest , there was 32 fighters alone in my age and wieght class , this year the Tacoma Golden gloves tournament drew a little over 100 participants for all WIEGHT and age classes , its not popular no more and that folks breaks my heart
Those weekends sitting withbmy grandma and my uncles watching the fights will always be held near and dear to me. The way hbo told the story within the sport and the science was uncanny. We still miss you 🥊🥊🥊🥊💯🙏🥲

Really ? I have seen some great fights the last 5 years since HBO , fighters getting paid more than ever before . Kind of creepy that a dead sport can still produce massive crowds and pay multi Millions of dollars to there fighters.

at&t bought time warner and that is what killed hbo boxing. they saw how much money was wasted on fight purses, and how poor the ratings were in comparison to hbo shows like game of thrones.
