**IS STEVE WYNN A HERO? OR SOMETHING ELSE... COMMENT BELOW**👇

I worked at the Golden Nugget for 3 years in the late 70's. The expansion, the remodeling and addition of the fantastic hotel, it was an exciting time. He changed The Nugget from a grind joint to a place as nice as anything on The Strip. And though I was only a frontline employee, once in a while Steve would see us working, stop and thank us for our work, and 20 minutes later one of the employees from the snack bar would bring a stack of (really good) fresh pizzas and trays of soft drinks and tell us Steve sent it and said to tell you thanks and to take a break. Every year the employees raised money from their own pockets and from friends and family for the charity that was trying to find a treatment for the eye disease that was causing Steve to lose his sight. Occasionally I'd end up riding the employee elevator in the back of the house with Steve and he never talked down to me. He used to talk about how he and Elaine wanted to change Vegas and bring in culture like a Symphony, stuff like that and I could tell he was sincere. He used to eat in the employee dining room to make sure the food was good. And he had this little quirk, loved bread pudding so there was always a fresh batch he shared with us. I moved away from Vegas for family reasons after I left The Nugget. People were saying Steve had lost his mind and went too far with the Mirage, would have to make the unbelievable amount of $1 million a day to break even and nobody could do that. But The Mirage started out pulling down about $2 million a day from day one. I started hearing stuff about Steve ten years or so ago. Just my opinion, but it seemed like if what I was hearing was true, that he was making decisions and doing things that the Steve I remembered would not have. Just my opinion, but there's a reason why people say "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas". It's a tough business and you have to deal with some less than saintly characters. And it's a sexy place and if you don't know that you better not go. I just think after all those decades of basically being the King, being able to go swim with his dolphins mornings at the Mirage, hanging with every movie and music star you ever heard of, and having the very best of everything, it just got to him and like a boxer who keeps fighting past his prime, it led to his demise. IMO, it's a modern day classic tragedy, that the guy who helped make Vegas what it is today went out the way he did.

I was opening crew for Bellagio, he was very good to us. I worked in a fine dining restaurant facing the fountains and strip, he used to have lunch there a few times a week. He was basically blind at that point, I used to have to tell him where everything was on the table. His properties were quality, a lot of thought and vision went into them. At the time, the word in town was Bellagio would be a huge failure because of all the money Wynn spent building it. We were all proud to work there. Opening the Paris after working at the Bellagio made me appreciate what he did. I'd heard rumors of the Me Too stuff and wasn't sure, but at the same time not surprised. We'll see how it plays out. Of my years in Vegas, working for Wynn was the best part.

I worked for Steve Wynn as a dealer from 1993 - 2000 at Golden Nugget, Treasure Island and the Mirage. While he may have made some poor decisions (which we all do).... working for him was amazing. I loved my job, the atmosphere, the people I was surrounded by and to this day are still friends with. My income almost doubled when I started at the Golden Nugget in 1993 from what I had been making at a hospital in Seattle, great benefits and so much more. I loved watching the majority of this video as I was there living a lot of it live and have so many great memories. Even if he is found guilty of some of these things, he changed so many more lives for the positive and needs to be recognized for that and not for a few poor judgement calls he may have made. Will he make a reappearance on the vacant land? I sure hope so!

I worked graveyard and was amazed of the army of employees who, every night would clean the casino floor top to bottom. Kirk Kerkran bought us out and lamented that the Bellagio was just another casino. Well, after he took it over, it changed into just anoher casino. Kirk cut the cleaning staff and compromised our employee dining room. Many other chages that did not affect me, but from then on, it was downhill.

Everybody has a dark side. It didn't make him evil to the core. It makes him a jerk who went too far with things he had no business doing. That darkness has a tendency to come out of some people during times of high stress. If say losing ones eyesight, a nasty divorce, and the public hearing of his transgressions causing that divorce would cause a terrific amount of stress. Then, here's comes the blooming asshatery. None of this excuses what he allegedly has done, but it at least shows one doesn't have to be a truly evil creep, but instead made some horrid choices and did some straight up stupid things. I don't care how intelligent a person is, how perfect a business person one is etc, anybody can fall down, some just fall down really hard.

As we walked to our reception at the country club grill, we were stopped by security as Mr. Wynn, Tony Bennett and their security detail walked to their car. Mr. Wynn was extremely gracious and introduced himself and Mr. Bennett and even apologized for stopping us. Tony declined my request for a song saying they had a dinner reservation. Class acts, both. It’s a true shame that his name has been sullied by those he gave such opportunities to. He will always have my deepest respect and admiration as a businessman, host, and gentleman. I still remember today the first time I walked into the Mirage and quickly realized how special it was.. For me it was a very noticeable change compared to even what was considered the "best" of Vegas at the time. Even the air was infused with what it seemed an aphrodisiac scent reminiscent of fruits or flowers from the Polynesian Islands. The fresh sound of the waterfalls giving out that fresh misty moisture you could feel on your skin.. I mean, it was a one after another example of tasteful attention to detail. I believe that breathtaking aquarium at the reception remains unequaled even today. My wife and I stayed many times at the Mirage over the years (even coming back after the rooms were modernized) That is what Wynn clearly understood and envisioned as the remedy for the tacky deterioration that the Strip had fallen into. He brought back class, refinement, Art, quality entertainment; the kind of high value you felt it was not only deserving but worth the price.

As a former resident of the 'old' Las Vegas, and having worked in the industry for many years, I remember Steve & Elaine Wynn very well. Way back before he became a "bazillionaire". You could not meet a nicer couple who truly cared for their hired help, and for everyone they met! As it is noted in many of the comments before this one. I fondly remember sitting in the Cafe at the Scenic Air Terminal, on the far side of McCarran Airport, having breakfast with many of the others who ran small businesses there, and in the general area, when Steve & Elaine walked in and sat down to have a snack as they were waiting for the Nugget Jet to land with new 'casino guests'. The little Cafe was the 'late morning breakfast and coffee spot' for many local small business people then. They both chatted with just about everyone there that morning, and when they left we found out at the register that all of our restaurant bills were paid by them. They were long gone by then, as the plane had unloaded the guests, and they all left in the limos. Come to find out, this was not a 'one time thing' for them. They often did so at various places, and times around Las Vegas. FYI: You 'glassed over' (IMHO) when Kevin was kidnapped that it was NOT LVMPD, the FBI, etc. that found her, and got her back. It was the Mirage Security people who did so. Many folks who knew Steve & Elaine have said, and I believe it having seen them many times over the years, that this was the single prominent event that caused their break-up. Justice was done, but Elaine didn't really like the end result. I also believe that, just like many powerful men get accused of, most if not all of these allegations are just folks trying to "get in on the gravy train" for some easy money! It surely would not be the first time that charges were made, hoping for a big settlement, long before it ever got near a Court.

I hope even now that they re-open Cleopatra's Barge. I've never been, so always make a special trip when I'm in Caesars, to walk past part of the barge that's still sticking out into the hallway, to give my respect. Then to see the Sahara's marquee showing that Louis Prima and Keely Smith were performing brought tears to my eyes. I watch them on youtube, so would give anything to see them live. I happened to learn about them when a notice on facebook said that Las Vegas legend Keely Smith had died. I was curious, so watched the vid, then watched youtube vids, and fell in love with their Vegas act.

Excellent summary of Wynn's career and impact on Vegas and the gambling and hospitality industries. I came here looking for the dirt on this casino mogul. Instead, I found an ntelligent, well-researched, concise, to the point, fair and non-judgmental overview of his business and life, without resort to lurid gossip and attention-grabbing click bait claims...Nicely done.

I was at the CES show in 1988 and I saw the Mirage, just with concrete, no facade. It was at night and their were just a few lights. I was shocked how enormous it looked in the dark. I went on to stay at most of his properties and I always felt like a million bucks. The other properties that compete with the Wynn, seem so much less opulent and rundown, (Caesars, MGM resorts and such). It feels hollow in the the Wynn without Steve there. You can feel it, it's an erie silence. I miss his presence and style. The Wynn is the best overall hotel that I have ever stayed in.

Funny you mention this because I was at the mirage 3 days ago (im from Southern California), and I was standing in the atrium and looking around listening to the waterfalls and birds and looking at the aquarium and I had that very same thought. To me that is impressive given all the amazingly over the top and incredible hotels on the strip and the fact that mirage is pretty ancient now (a relative term of course … this is ancient in Vegas years). I was also impressed with how well it appears to have been kept up. Granted I don’t have a clue what the rooms look like or anything but everything else looked great . And I love that it reminds me of so many funny scenes in the Vegas vacation movie .

Well done, Steven. And that Wynn biography you mentioned was an excellent piece of work, too. I can’t help but mention Jay Sarno, who never gets enough credit for helping create modern Vegas and Ceasar’s Palace. I used to stay there and the Encore, and that was nothing but class and employees were first rate, happy and committed.

Steve Wynn has an degenerative eye disease. I worked at the Bellagio when it first opened. Steve had problems with his peripheral vision back then. I'm sure it probably has gotten worse over the years. I believe his eye site has helped him in court when the women said he would be glaring at them when in fact he was almost blind according to his doctors and lawyers. Nice story Steven.

Worked for Steve Wynn from 1983 to 1985 in Atlantic City. He was an exceptional owner, hard on employees, yes, but the benefits were worth it. I remember we had a waiting list of dealers, and other employees, trying to get a job at the Golden Nugget. He had the highest "toke" rate in Atlantic City at the time, plus instead of getting a turkey or gift certificate for the Holidays, Steve Wynn doubled your paycheck, no matter how much. Tough but rewarding. It's sad to see the old building falling apart after all those years. The city should tear it down.

Walking into the Wynn Encore casino was an experience only comparable to walking out of a motion picture you couldn’t forget - it was just an intoxication of perfection- robust colors & risky color combinations that always seemed to work. It’s like a Spielberg performance in interior design, architectural bliss. & refreshing natural wonders that inspire with awe.

Overall, It seems like he was great for Vegas. I'd hate to think he's guilty for some of the things he's accused of.
