many know it. Following his shock retirement in 2022, we look back at Vince's legacy in The RISE And FALL Of Vince McMahon.

@@paranoidewok6772 Expansion. Like it was said by pretty much every old school wrestler/booker/manager/etc, in the hundreds of interviews you can find on RU-vid, everyone involved in the territory system didn't want anything to change, just keep everything the way it was. Sure, it's possible someone else could've come along later if it wasn't McMahon who did it, but history shows it was him that did.

@@paranoidewok6772 In a way yes. He did in fact destroy the territory business end of things then popularised wrestling twice in the 80s and then again in the late 90s. IMO the reason WWE lost favour was because they went total corporate by becoming a publicly traded company in 09. That and the changing to a PG rating which was the most unpopular times in WWE outside the 80s I think destroyerd wrestling's cred as a legit sport. However without MCmahon would we have gotten stars like Austin The Rock and Undertaker or even newer stars such as John Cena Batista etc.

Extremely well-done, and the facts and dates are spot on. One thing not mentioned is that Vince initially used the "All American Wrestling" slot on USA to showcase wrestlers from other promotions, getting rival promoters to send in tapes. The effect of this was that Vince got to promote talent that he was about to pluck away, and didn't have to lift a finger. It's an overused word, but that really was genius.

Arguably, under Vince, women in wrestling became a much bigger deal than any other promotion, since WCW didn't even have women's title but WWF/E did. The sexual assault/harassment allegations are just that-allegations until and/or unless proven true. Owen Hart's death, while tragic, wasn't Vince's fault. I'd argue that someone actually effected and impacted by Owen would be a more likely culprit if you think someone should be held responsible for it.

Epic and brilliantly done. How long do you think before we'll have the Netflix material out there? Also, I've been into this s--t for too many years ♥️

@Willy Massey true but so far it’s largely been all positive I mean it says a lot that the only negatives are problems caused a a la Vince that are much harder to fix by Trips and Steph Namely: replacing Dunn, fixing NXT 2.0 and UK, and the recent issues with the first NILS class we’ve heard about But he’s largely fixed or is fixing everything else: made titles relevant again, getting back poorly released talent, rebuilding badly damaged divisions, and giving more attention to a more diverse roster

Hubris and pride were the McMAHON downfall. Indeed, I am glad to see him go. But I recognize his legacy and thank him for everything he did because without him, wrestling truly wouldn't be what it is today.
