Well I am lucky enough to have served on both ships , but only one trip on the Brittanic but 4 years on the Mauritania 2 . Although longer on Mauritania I would still choose her . A very happy ship . Now in my 80's.
A great production, OlympicWS--as always! Thank you for featuring the Britannic. I don't think I've ever seen so many pictures of and from her in one place--and in color!---Of those two outstanding ships I lean toward the Mauretania. I find her more attractive inside and outside. I read in one of William H. Miller's books that the second Mauretania wasn't considered to be in the same league as the Queens but I think she was every bit as good. The word "club-like" has been used more than once for the Mauretania, a quality that might not be found on larger liners, fine as as they were. I've read that movie actress Lana Turner was fond of the Mauretania.
Thanks for the video of two almost forgotten liners. The 2nd Mauritania was very much a smaller version of the Queen Elizabeth in so many ways, I think I would opt for her out of the two but either way they are both so superior in most (but not all) ways to the floating condos of today which I hate like poison.
I find it really interesting how this Britannic & this Mauretania mirror the previous Britannic & Mauretania. As to where Britannic II was lost before even entering service for White Star, Britannic III had a pretty long career, & as to where Mauretania I was extremely famous, Mauretania II is largely forgotten.
They probably should've made the Mauretania a bit faster (as in almost as fast if not as fast as her famous namesake), but tjmho. Yet another great video as always! And yet another great "Rivals" video, as always! Keep it up! (of course you used not one, but two pieces from Two Steps From Hell: those guys are unbelievable) Can you promise me this? When Titanic II finally arrives in 2022, can you do a Rivals video between that ship and the Queen Mary 2? That'd be awesome (also, why'd you not call Britannic the Britannic 3, seeing as it was the third White Star Liner to bear the name?).
There isnt an reason to race the new ship with QM, The Newer Mauretania was an answer to the Original mauretania's flaw, less funnels for more spaces and more luxurious interiors and comfortable sailing, the original have non of those, her funnels took too much space her interiors arent as impressive and her hull was designed to go into waves instead of riding along them this caused vibrations and uncomfortable sailings
@@yuzurukaede how about RMS britannic your calling hmhs or her majesty’s hospital ship is just a term for ships for hospital service but that hospital service only last long at the world war 1 britannic would return to the white star fleet and join her sister olympic until the end 😢😢😇 [fun fact: RMS britannic was not the first britannic there was a britannic before her its SS britannic from 1980s she is own also by the white star and was suppose to act as oceanic 1’s big version she was also ment to have a sister olympic not the olympic from the olympic class the first ment olympic suppose to be built in 1980s as SS britannic’s sister] and there you have it reply to me so i can see is my comment just right or bad :(
I wouldnt pick just one to travel, I would pick the RMS Mauretania II to travel from New York to Southampton and then the MV Britannic in the return voyage. Also, they both look like a "mini" version of their great antecesors, the RMS Mauretania and the HMHS Britannic.
I have a strong link to both. It has to be the Mauretania though. My father sailed in her from Durban to Egypt during WWII, his sister served in her as a nursing officer in the 50s on transatlantic sailings and cruises out of NYC. It was a family favourite. She also sailed in the Britannic.
Question for everyone. Is it just me? Or should the Empress sisters had an extra stack? Can we ask model companies for a 1/350 scale model of the Empress of Ireland? They would go great on the mantle.
Empress Sisters? I think the Mauretania is missing a stack, would be looking much more better. There should be way more models of liners. I only know of Titanic, Lusitania, Queen Mary2, Aida in 350/400. Then there is a United States at i thin 1:450. and thats it. No Queen Mary oe Queen Elizabeth, France, Normandie, Vaterland or similar. But almost every Battleship or Carrier has a model...
@@ingocernohorsky Yes,the 1/350 scale military ships have taken off since 2009..Finally! I'd love a model of the Empress and the Vaterland. It was a Glorious time.My Grandfather rode Olympic to Europe for the great war.He was 107 when he passed.Ive built models for over 50 years and met the Hasegawa family.Ive learned to ask and keep asking at The IPMS conventions across the country and to write letters. They do read them but its cost a cool million in 1988 to mold a car model. The requirements I was told was 120% recovery of the molding costs first year and there must be demand for a second and third release about every 20 years to profit.Things may have changed.I don't know but if you have an obscure car nobody knows about then they wont do it.Id love the Californian and the Carpathia.Im very surprised nobody's done Carpathia, they just found her a few years ago.
MrPman474 I seem to remember it.I like the bigger 1/350 because it's not too small and not too big.Plus it offers detail possibilities.Wouldnt mind having the Moro Castle either....:)
@@berniehayes9397 She was named Queen Elizabeth the Second by Queen Elizabeth the Second. Cunard chose to use the arabic 2 rather than the Roman II to differentiate ship from monarch.
@@presleygriffiths9037 Cunard didn't do anything to wipe White Star out. They did it themselves. They never did recover from the losses they suffered during WW1 (chiefly Oceanic and Britannic) and had to rely mainly on the Olympic to see them through the 1920s since the former German liners they acquired were not up to the standard of their own vessels. The Great Depression and their reliance on elderly, fuel guzzling vessels sealed their fate in the 1930s.
@@presleygriffiths9037 it isnt their fault its the war, During the war the georgic got bombed the royal navy rushed the ship to service again removing her iconic forward dummy funnel and damaging several public spaces, cunard ehite star tried their best to repair her but it was proven not really an choice so they refitted britannic with the more luxury similar to those on Georgic during pre war
If MV Britannic was saved I think she should live in Belfast or here in America as a hotel/museum telling the story of the Britannic name from SS Britannic to HMHS Britannic to the MV Britannic and like you said "MV Britannic all the way I agree with you. Who would loved to walk the decks of the WSL's last ship in service and to honor the ships who the name was on and the entire White Star line along with little Nomadic.
@@mr.juniii5523 uhhh nope because britannic has no rival because she was turned into a hospital ship and never started a voyage across the atlantic and aquitania's rival was majestic from white star line
cunard really like well i don't know they can't come up with a new face design of the face of the ship after the lauch of queen mary then after that all the faces of cunard ships were like the queen mary
... back when cruise ships didn’t look like crap. cruise ships these days look like the work of an architect with a brain aneurysm ... ... and for some reason, everybody else just copied that.
There ocean liners not cruise ships its so rare to see cruise ships in the old days. But i think i cant be net picky on cruise ships today because technology always grows nothing stays the same
First SS Britannic was born and then scrapped years later The name was reused For RMS Britannic the break out of WW1 RMS Britannic converted into a Hospital ship And then the last ship using the name Britannic was MV Britannic
I also prefer MV Britannic. tho the 2nd Mauretania supposed to be a resemblance of the original Mauretania, they are nothing alike,Mauretania 2 was art deco and was not edwardian,Ik its the style in 1930 but the name mauretania dont fit her. They have nothing alike but her service in WW2 actually resembles the Original Mauretania a bit.
@@mcshipbuilder2319 I prefer britannic more traditional interior the Mauretania 2 was in my opinion a failed attempt of Cunard White Star line to match the glamour and status of the original Mauretania
@@juanesmirez yea your right. even slight wood paneling on the second mauretania or even a few domes.Would make her resemble the Orginal great Mauretania
@@yilmazmustafa5850 it isnt their fault i honestly blame WSL's parent company taking down WSL with them, If cunard havent merged with WSL the last WSL liners would have scrapped earlier
