And get a massive influx of subs within days or weeks. Instead of relying on years and base RU-vid Algorithm. His fantastic RU-vid channel already has all these videos. And every one of them can be run As Is as an Ad. It’s glorious. I noticed Ben Shapiro did this with his RU-vid Channel. I was so impressed. I subscribed to him just because I never thought of such a basic effective simple idea.

The misfortune of their geography falls on the small folk, not the nobility or their military. The men of the Riverlands are acknowledged as being exceptional soldiers, but there's only so much pillaging and bloodshed that the noncombatants can handle, and they bear the brunt of all of it, regardless of who's fighting.

They are kind of the key to Westeros.

IIRC the Riverlands was only united under local rule once, by the Justmans, and that's just for 3 centuries. Then the Ironborn came.

Jon is a Snow because he was acknowledged as a bastard by a Stark . Gendry did not receive any bastard surname because he was never acknowledged by Robert nor did he know about his parents.

@@nasiknosik Yeah, bastards have to be acknowledged to be given their bastard name, but they are still generally given the bastard name of the region they were born in. But Jon isn't a Sand because he wasn't officially born in Dorne.

Jon was a snow because at the time no one but Ned Stark and Howland Reed knew he was born in Dorne so Ned claimed he was a snow to keep him safe because of his true ancestry.

First, You have to be recognised by your lord father as a bastard of his. Secondly, To gain the bastard surname of one of the region, you either have. -The father or mother decides -The region that you where born in. -or the place you have been raised. Jon gained his surname; Snow, because of his suppose father gave it to him and had raised Jon as a northerner. If Jon was raised as a dornish then the title would be sand instead. But ultimately it’s up to the parents

The bastard naming thing isn't a rule or law, it's just custom. It's malleable.

Yeah nobody else knew apart from ned stark and howland reed and I guess the wet nurses to that jon was born in dorne and what his real parentage was.

@@regularguy2807 @deltadude Everyone that was convinced that Jon was Ned's bastard knows that Jon wasn't born in the North. They think he conceived his bastard while on campaign with Robert. They know his last act of the war was to go to Dorne to "rescue" his sister. He had a group of men with him that died whose families he had to tell were buried in Dorne with rocks from the Tower of Joy. There were rumors that Ashara Dayne was the mother. Jon's wet nurse that came with him to Winterfel was from Dorne... What I'm getting at is reguardless of what rumors people believed or lies Ned had to tell; it still would have been pretty well believed that Jon was borne in or near Dorne. But he is called Snow instead of Sand because he was raised in the traditions of the North.

There don't really seem to be hard and fast rules on it. Which makes sense, it's more a plot device for GRRM to convey the background of a character without a house, whether geographically consistent or not. After all, it doesn't make sense for most bastard children to keep their bastard names, rather than discard it and present themselves as any other common person, seeing as the bastard name is only a detriment to their social standing. Much like Gendry isn't, as far as I recall, ever refered to as Gendry Waters, I don't see any reason why the vast majority wouldn't go by their given name only

@@skynyrdjesus Gendry isn’t waters because he isn’t recognised by Robert . Bastards with at least one noble parent , who is recognised are given these names . Gendry or Bella aren’t recognised but Mya and Edric are thus given the names Stone and Storm respectively .
