Most people are completely oblivious to the imminent danger of death in front of them. They kept driving on the overpass when their is clearly massive flames and smoke coming up from underneath it. Thank God there weren't any heavy trucks or heavy hauls going over that section of the highway during the fire. That would have been really bad.
Wow, the road was visibly sagging and people were driving over it and there were no authorities there to block traffic from passing over it... because what could happen?
I can’t believe that people were just driving through the heavy black smoke like that, it was so obvious that something major was going on. I personally would have gotten off at the nearest exit before the accident & I would have tried to go around it…
They wouldn't know that at the time. They likely thought it was at an intersection, not literally under the bridge. You say you know what to do, but that's only because you have hindsight about the situation.
There were still people LITERALLY DRIVING THROUGH BLACK SMOKE AND FIRE and on a sagging road…some people do not have the common sense to posess a driver’s license…truly.
The excessive heat massively reduces the rebars tensile strength in those members, at 1100 degrees Fahrenheit steel loses 15 percent or more of its capacities..gasoline fueled open fires burn somewhere near 1900 degrees Fahrenheit….failure or compromise is imminent! Some of that rebar is merely 2” from the concretes surface….update..from a commenter and after seeing the demo underway, it explains the collapse further, as the superstructure was raw steel beams…the concrete deck still would have experienced the above failure in any event..thanks
Those were steel I beams not reinforced concrete beams and you are correct at 1200 f the steel will soften to the point of collapse. Not to mention it will elongate several inches as the temperature rises. It will warp in the direction of the heat source as it pushes itself off of the support piers and with the top weight of concrete down it came.. You can see the visual effects of the heat on the steel I beams on the southbound side by the sag in the road surface.
Can you mofxxkers please use Celsius instead of stupid Fahrenheit. Everybody in the world uses kilometers, Celsius and meters but no you guys are special and need your own little nonsense.😂
We had all those train derailments earlier this year that the Biden administration just shrugged off, perhaps they're trying a new approach. The tanker driver couldn't have hit the gas and driven another 100 feet to not park under the bridge?
I grew up 31 year in Philly; I now live in Northern California = fires. I have been watching this story unfold and cringe as I have watched the cars drive toward and through the fire. I would have pulled over and waited to see what was going on. Just the toxic fumes would have been bad enough. My survival instinct is to beat feet, run, drive in the opposite direction.
They have a contractor working to get equipment to the site to remove the section of roadway so they can access the vehicle and determine if anyone is inside.
It honestly doesn't surprise me people kept driving, I've seen sooo many videos covering past bridge collapses where the bridge is obviously missing/about to fall and people keep on going anyways.
Grew up near Philly; I guess I shouldn't be shocked Keystone Cops just put up cones on side instead of shutting down overpass as it began to melt and collapse like that one in Oakland famously did in 2007.
And what are the Democrats in Harrisburg saying? "Trump did it. Or, at least his MAGAists." I left the Commonwealth over ten years ago - and, I don't ever regret it.
@@wendybutler1681 That doesn't stop them from saying it. They're already blaming Trump even though Biden has been in power for two and a half years now. Build back better, huh.
Concrete and steal needs 1500°f to be issue .. normal fuel burns at 550°f so was it normal fuel or jet fuel if normal fuel what eles brought the overpass down ? Psst week ago a civilian plane was attacked by military in a no see zone ! Are they same both there was no pete
Huh did you know it that it takes a lot of Vibrations and resonance for a bridge to collapse so what every made it collapse must have been really strong… take that as you will.💥
@@MikeJones-rk1un I didn't say soften. I said weaken. It doesn't take much for steel to not be able to hold up a few tons of weight when it gets too hot. Im not a engineer but it seems like common sense to me.
The truck driver probably stopped for head from a Kensington street walker. Any dead were probably homeless folx. Cremation is all done. Send in the D12s to scrape away the mess. Get to work rebuilding!
Concrete has a lot of compression strength, but not much tensile strength. It has to have steel to hold it up. Steel loses strength in fires. Haven't you seen how burned steel buildings collapse?
