🇲🇩 Ever been to Ratus in Moldova? Me neither and so I decided to go and investigate the place so you don't have to. On the way I met some great Moldovan people and of course visited some abandoned Soviet buildings.
@@botidobra6221 It's not postapocaliptic is more like what a corrupt government does to their people, even though people usually think soviets treated their people horribly the second half of the Soviet Union actually gave their people a somewhat decent lifestyle that old people in these villages miss, now they have to live with almost no money and that's pretty sad, at least Bald is showing the world about this and maybe make this corrupt governors actually care about their people just because of shame about what they did by filling their pockets with money
But those women he drank with in Moldova were probably some of the nicest women you could meet off the beaten path. They welcomed him in, gave him the best wine they made, and sent him off with a bottle. This is how the world should operate. Treating random strangers on the basis of love and warm-heartedness.
His genuine level of enthusiasm combined with his quality Russian really seems to help the locals feel less on edge. He’s the perfect host to travel through the former USSR and explain it to us in the West.
not just the 'west' tbh people all around the world have huge misconception of eastern Europe and former USSR nation because media are inherently America cebtric
Ha join the club! I have social skills, pretty good I'd say, I just enjoy being home at home doing my thing, if someone asks to go to Belgium, or Japan or something sure let's do it, but again my favorite place is comfortably in my palace lol
I totally understand. When I feel that way and it gets me down, I just watch a few videos about those "hikikomori" in Japan, and somehow it makes me feel a bit better.
Imagine those two men going home late to their wives and explaining that they were late because they met an Englishman and gave him a ride in their cart. This is when the rolling pin comes out.
The countries he travels too it's easier to small talk with people because they have more time than money. In the wealthier countries everyone is in a rush for something.
It's different in those smaller villages. Those people don't get to interact with many, so they love it when he shows up because he is nice and usually is bearing gifts.
@@two-bit8502 yes ! Thats exactly it His ultra extroverted personality helps though but i like being introverted , its peacefull, a channel like this makes for good entertainment though
Hey man just discovered your channel, I love it, finally some travel vlog without drone shot and electro music, no BS just legit interraction with human beings, I love that, cheers!
So true, fucking hate that electro music that reminds of coming down of acid! And he isn't some patronising fuck covered in tattoos or some narcissistic girl just wanting to show her face.
Love the interactions with the Lada gentlemen and the guys in the wagon as well. They remind me so much of my Italian relatives. So warm and friendly, wanting to show you everything. Even down to their mannerisms while speaking. It does make sense, as Romanians and Moldavians are sort of like the bridge between the Latin world and the Slavic world. Very cool to see!
@@m.r.heppener8659 God I love him. I don't care for MRE's but he makes it seem so fascinating. Same with this dude. I never really cared for anything soviet or about any of the places he goes to but I watch because he makes it seem so interesting and it's just such a joy to watch
Getting 1.7M views out of filming a town in Moldau almost nobody ever heard before is fascinating. You need to be a special person to make this so interesting. I found this channel almost 1 year ago after watching the Desi Daru hunt of Mr Baldr. Definitely one of the best channels on YT
Yes, the same here, I watch only this channel all the time. Btw there is one other channel I found who’s is showing some remote places as well. It’s called adventurous Archie.
In Ethiopia we have thousands of Ladas that were donated by the Soviet Union. Almost all Ladas are now used as taxis and they are painted blue as all taxis are in Ethiopia. Very iconic and built to last
"Built to last" lol are kidding? Lada is a cheap garbage that breaks all the time, my father used to spend more time fixing it than driving. Here in Eastern Europe Lada either your first car that you know you gonna sell after a year, or if you are old man and you dont have money to buy something better
Denis well like I said there are thousands of Ladas still running in the very poor roads of Ethiopia with very limited spare parts available. Mind you these cars are 30 plus years old. If that’s not built to last I don’t know what is.
Bro my dad has the CD that you are playing in your car. It's Pavel Stratan and his songs are one of the best past of the road trips that my family makes by car to go to Moldova. I don't know how that happened but you are a true man of culture. Keep up the good work and all the best for your future
When I was a teenager I knew a guy who had a voice like that. Great guy, a bit shy but wasnt afraid to talk. Never asked what caused it, but I remember a mate saying it was something he was born with that would eventually lead to him going blind in his 20-30s. Don't know what happened to him, tho'.
I think Mr. Bald is always running Into good people because he is radiating with good energy! Its true you put positive energy out you get positive energy back
The drunken guy in Belarus, the fake priest/shaman and rupees guy in india etc etc. Usually you get treated well, if you behave well. Act like Harald Baldr, and you get shit all the time.
The dude driving the car at 7:10 is like the Moldovan Godfather. His strained voice sounds just like Brando in Godfather and his work of "different village jobs" is a definite double entendre!
There are a few Moldávos living in my country 🇵🇹 and they’re kind and hard workers, they literally speak Portuguese in less than a year as they lingo belongs to Romanian language as well. As curious as it is, when I spent a season in Ykpaiha 🇺🇦 they thought that I was from Moldova when they heard me speaking 🤓
As an Orthodox Christian I really love when you show the churches. However, I also appreciate how respectful you are of them. Thank you for all of your videos.
Thats not true I have been to London, and peopel there are very nice to foreigners. If you are a nice guy peopel will be nice to you anywhere in the world.
@@achromicfederalagentiv8014 So are they in many European countrys. And yes in many countrys you should not say you are gay. But I dont see who this relates to my first comment.
It was etern memory to fallen heroes, Romanian language Many years ago Moldavia was part from Romania i wish we (Romania could reunite again with Moldavia
"But it's still is a piece of past! That I love to just be a part of just for a minute or two of my life. And imagine what life was like" .. ah nice words!
Just found this channel and i am allready in love. Amazing content showing of how a real traveler does travel. Its not fancy restaurants and wine tasting with copyrighted music playing along the way lol. Keep up the good work.
He likes to experience the place, to interact with locals, travels to places where an ordinary tourist wouldn’t go. That’s what makes this channel different and interesting
I never stated the opposite. I only pointed out how ridicoulus it is to imply that anyone who doesnt travel to backwater, lesser known places isnt "a real traveler"
This brings back so many memories of my trips to the villages in Ukraine and Kazakhstan in the past. You are correct when you say the people are very friendly in the villages. Thanks for the memory.
On the white column it says “Eternă memorie celor căzuți.” which means “Eternal memory to the fallen.” and for those who know how to read Cyrillic better, it is pronounced like “Етернэ меморие челор кэзуць”
Nobody has ever been that excited to see Ratus. But thanks to this vlog more than 1,6 millon viewers, so far, has seen the village. Maybe somebody got more excited. Love these videos.
I was going to go with "Eternal remembrance to fallen heroes.", it's not as literal of a translation, but I believe the soul of the message is preserved much better.
Min. 3.45 .... That's in Romanian, the original and national and real language of Moldova and Transnistria (although they speak Russian, or too much Russian even today 😔). It means "eternal memory of the fallen heroes"! Great video btw!
Moldova IS a beautiful country. I say it because I know it, unless you come and see you can't know. There's SO much more to it than the shit you see in this video.
@@VladG19 Yeah i believe you, tbh all countries are Beautiful in their own ways, for example in the urban areas armenia is a shithole (except erevan) but the mountain landscapes are gorgeous
@@suggestiveguy Yeah you're right, each country has it's beauty (and ugly parts I guess) Chisinau is a very ugly city (especially in the winter months, summer is very green so it's not as noticeable) but that's because of the politicians who don't do ANYTHING just steal, but the country itself in the rural areas has some very beautiful places. Btw it's my wish to one day visit Armenia, from the pictures and from what my Armenian friends told me, it's a very beautiful place. :)
This is the best channel on RU-vid. Even when nothing much happens, in just loving vicariously through him. Wish Id had the bottle to do what he's doing before I got old and gained responsibilities.
I really enjoy your vlogs, you show an unedited, non biased view, into parts of the world I have not travelled to. You show human nature and how there is so much more kindness in people , in all parts of the world. These vlogs expose the poverty and resiliance people live in. You do it with dignity and a lovely sense of humor. keep rolling !!
Its pretty bias, where was the explanation for why moldova is the way it is? Why be so happy only to see the soviet things of moldova and how they got taken down, exolain why Then people should know
finding your channel and amazing videos during quarantine is the best thing ever it feels like I'm learning and exploring these places with you ! thank you
I have to say mate, that's impressive what you've done here and thank you for bringing back some memories about my country, feels like it's been forever since I left and probably a lot more people from Moldova watching your videos felt home for a moment . Top man
The two old men in the beginning looks just like my grandfather and his neighbour (here in Sweden) and seem just as nice! It's a real shame how the Eastern-European nations where promised gold and green forests after the fall of the USSR, only to be screwed over big time, leaving them with less then they had before. They all deserve better!
B.and B, you have got to be one of the most charming, warm, and friendly people on RU-vid. Your treatment of each person you meet, leaves them with a feeling of worth and warmth. You are a joy to watch. Keep it up, we love you.
@@Rimrock300 no its not, its a shitty little meme that was made, and most youtubers thought they were cool as part of the meme, so they all took the picture. most think its cool but i just think its pretty pathetic, but as you say its there hobby.
@@Dockhead Calling people pathetic just because they have a bit of fun is pretty pathetic in itself (like your grammar). You are looking down on people for no apparent reason. It's probably an "offensive" meme and it hurt your feelings, that's my best guess.
I'd hang out with you all day man, I lived in Germany for 10 years and am a former UK citizen, my buddy and I both into culture and history would walk the streets of Europe getting pissed talking to folks asking them about how they view the changes in Europe. We were young, and I can't speak for him, but I learned we are all the same at the core.
Log s European isn’t a race and “at the core” all humans are the same, thanks to the internet we are now more connected than ever and we will continue to be. Travel the world a little and you will realise how silly you sound.
He’s been offered a few (look at his Instagram) but refuses to do them on moral grounds. Here in Britain the mainstream media especially the BBC spread false information on Russian and former Soviet people to demonise them to help increase tensions between the west and Russia
TV is slowly dying anyway, independent creators should remain independent and considering the amount of subs he has he can easily be funded by his fans
@@kilindogma9711 exactly why pay for television, these days we have something superior like RU-vid with amazing content creators who deserve more, this is top notch stuff I can't wait for the future, I don't watch TV anymore instead this is what I watch.
I have been trying to work out why I prefer the East European and Russian Vlogs compared to the Indians ones and I think I've worked it out .... it's the people... They just seem so grounded and I like the fact that they do not expect payment for the slightest favour or try to rip you off like other poor countries. The fact that they seem to have lots of hot women is a nice bonus too :P
The Russian language is so beautiful. And you speak it so naturally! And I find Soviet stuff fascinating. I had a penpal in the Ukraine when I was a teenager. I found out through trying to find her on facebook that she passed from brain cancer in 2012 though. Her parents were apparently deeply touched that I had been trying to find her though
You are bringing up some memories, even though only slightly related. I played correspondence chess against a guy from Georgia. He wanted some albums (from the group "Kansas") he couldn't get over there, so I bought them and wanted to send them to him. After the fall of the Soviet Union I didn't hear from him anymore. Later got news that he perished in the post Soviet chaos - no civil war, nothing else, just was randomly murdered by some people when order broke down and they may have thought he had some money on him or whatever. Still have the records in their original packaging. They moved with me three times. I don't dare open, I promised to send them to Aleksey. They have a special place in my vinyl collection of olden times. One of them seems to be bent out of shape, dunno how I'll ever explain that.
Its a very interesting language but no way would i say it was a "Beautiful" language. Now French, now THAT would be classed as a beautiful language. I find it hard to believe any English speaking person would think Russian was a "Beautiful" language.
@@petert9110 I don't speak either Russian or French. But from what my ears tell me, Russian is the more beautiful-sounding one out of the two. I'm from Norway btw.
@@petert9110 I think it is a clichee that french sounds beautiful, that russian doesnt, that german is harsh. I love the sound of all three (but mostly enjoy hearing dialects, no matter what language, fwiw)
@@a.k6424 How old were you when you moved away? If you were an adult, please tell us more about life as a child and adolescent, if you feel comfortable with doing that. I would love to hear about it.
Camilo Gonzalez I love living in Moldova but unfortunately I had to emigrate to Italy. I return to Moldova whenever I can. In fact, this month I go to visit these uncles of mine.
Some of us who can't travel and are seeing these places through you. For that I say Thank you sir! 👑 Edit: Jesus I have never had so many likes. If this crosses 100 likes ill start my own channel
I don't look to your vlogs for what you show us, but the way you show us, always smiling, always positive, always nice to the people, your interaction with them and so on....
Realized I have watch this video before a few minutes in, still watching, still interesting. Definitely one of the best travel videos on RU-vid. Cheers from Canada.
