An all new & improved version of "Road to the Santos/McGarry White House" compilation, a comprehensive 55 minute story all in one spot. I intended and tried to still have it here on RU-vid but it was immediately rejected, so for now am using my Vimeo. vimeo.com/340111114
I was revelling in the memories of the many times I've watched this show. I was enjoying all the moments with a big grin on my face as my brain put things into the wider context. Then, for the second time today, I was deeply affected by both the fictional and physical loss. It breaks my heart every time but kudos to you for some mighty fine editing. *Thank You* for sharing. Stay Safe! 👍
Wish The West Wing starting with Season 1 was on some channel as repeats with one episode per night and then all seasons I love this show and really miss it!
Just hit me right then that Josh lost his father as Bartlet was on the cusp of being elected and then lost Leo as Santos was in the same position... Gonna start watching the entire series... again
I know a lot of people would love to see the WW come back. But, I think that the WW has a great legacy as one of the best dramas ever on TV. If it was brought back, it would be without Aaron Sorkin, Martin Sheen, or John Spencer. I'd hate to see its legacy diminished by doing some sort of reboot. However, I do hope Aaron Sorkin changes his mind and does another TV show in the future.
part of me was hoping that when Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip first came on, it was going to take place in the same universe as the Santos presidency, and there could've even been some sly allusions to how Danny Tripp looked uncannily like the White House Chief of Staff lol
@@haydenpolsky995 I thougt that the Trump-presidency could've given them an opportunity to make a show with the gang not being in power anymore, but having to watch a republican rule in the White House - with only one or two members of the old main cast still being involved in politics, like Will being a more powerful figure in the house democratic caucus or one of Josh/Donna being a governor somewhere. And then they would get together again to run against that presidential incumbent. And on the White-House-side we could have the Republican characters we liked, like Ainsley Hayes, running the West Wing. Or maybe completely focus on a republican West Wing and only have the old main cast as guest characters every now and then.
I see a lot of comments wanting this show revived, or rebooted....i'm in opposition to this and here's why. This show was a masterpiece, I'm not American, and many of the issues went right over my head, but the characters were so well written, the dialogue so on point, that knowledge of the American politics wasn't necessary. I fell in love with this show, and any sequel or reboot will only diminish what the original achieved. This is just my opinion, and everyone is entitled to theirs....now lets walk and talk, whats next?
Madcap Magician Your comment exemplifies the brilliance of this show. When an understanding of American politics isn’t necessary to appreciate a show that’s literally about a US president and his staff because the acting and dialogue are so outstanding, then you know you’ve truly got something special.
I would be against a reboot but not against a continuation/sequel series with an entirely new cast of characters. The good doctor is porrf that Sorkin can write great characters consistently and he would most likely be able to capture the magic of the West Wing again.
@@baileyjones4379 If Sorkin came back onboard I would revise my opinion, but he has repeatedly stated that he wouldn't be involved in such a project. We can only hope, I want a newsroom show set now....Will would have a field day at the moment.
They really did a good job of making Jed look like a tired worn-out president. he just had his look at the end there that you can tell that he was just done, he is ready to retire
'You still got my number, do you? Call the switchboard, they put you right through'. That line gets me everytime. With Leo gone, Josh is the central political operative of the Democratic party.
I wish they would have had just one scene of Santos and Josh entering the Situation Room, with Santos sitting at the head of the table and Josh sitting in the Chief of Staff's chair; his first time in the Sit Room.
I broke down and cried when I heard of John Spencer's death. This episode was so heart wrenching. Tearing up now just remembering it. Such a generous kind man❤️
Brilliant show from first episode to last. But I think what really made season 6 and 7 so awesome was the way Alan Alda played Arnold Vinick. He and Jimmy Smits were both magnificent and they acted their roles to perfection. The loss of John Spencer was a hammer blow and yet the writers and actors somehow got through it and somehow seemed to perform even better. What a shame that shows like this have somehow become almost extinct and that we are awash with mediocre TV that depends on sex and explosions to replace great dialogue and superb writing.
Commandelicious I own the box set my friend. I love it but it wasn't quite as awe inspiring to me as TWW. It died too soon to really become the classic it deserved to be. Shame Sorkin has said he's not writing anything for TV any more.
+Commandelicious - We both obviously appreciate Aaron Sorkin's writing. If you haven't seen it, check out THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT. Sorkin's writing and a great cast. Martin Sheen, Michael Douglas, Annette Bening & Michael J. Fox. What more can you ask for ?
Remember when Bartlett told Santos and Vinnick that one of them was his exit plan for a coming war in Asia? Santos said “NAH” and made the BOTH of them his exit plan. Vinnick would give Santos the foreign policy chops he needed.
Hell yea. To be honest, there's only two times in my life when I genuinely cried upon first hearing of a celebrity death. One was Greg Giraldo, he was my favorite stand up comic and had such an unfortunately, all too early death. The other was John Spencer, I mean that just DESTROYED me. Then of course the episode where they portray Leo's funeral, I was just a blubbering mess.
Something else that was great about the fictional campaign: finding something for Josh to DO. Much like the show itself during Season 5, Josh had been left drifting: getting passed over for promotion, Donna leaving him, and being told to stay off Capitol Hill for no particular reason really. Bradley Whitford was (along with Dule Hill) the audience surrogate of TWW and having him idle was a drag. He needed a campaign to run.
I imagine that the actors had enough and wanted a new challenge. Plus, it felt like the prefect and arc. The show started with a first term president and ended with the next one.
Every show needs an ending and they wrote this one PERFECTLY. However, enough time has passed that this show could be resurrected. And I feel pretty confident that Sorkin would sign on. Let Sam Seaborn be the candidate, let Josh be the new Leo.... bring in some heavy-hitter new characters..... but most importantly. SHOW THIS COUNTRY WHAT A PRESIDENT SHOULD BE AGAIN....because MY GOD HAVE SO MANY OF US FORGOTTEN!!!!!!
It was remarkable how prescient this season from 2006 was in anticipating the 2008 election. And made that much more heartfelt by the fact that the cast was saying goodbye to John Spencer as their characters were saying goodbye to Leo McGarry.
Nostalgia for a time when the office of the US President beamed respect. Era of Trump's bafoonary and Biden's senile embarassment, leaves us earning for the past
Does Bartlet tell Josh "We love you like a Son. Leo and I are the past..." or does he say "He loved you...." ?? Either way I love this show and all aspects of it. We Miss You, Johnny. :(
God I hope they make a sequel series to this with an incompetent buffoon behind the desk, all the while cutting to a now-retired Matt Santos living it up in Hawaii.
John Spencer was a brilliant actor. And, as good as he was, you could just sense a kindness about him. This is one of the Josh and Leo moments that gets me. But, the one that really gets me is the one with the story about the hole. RIP, Mr. Spencer. Gone too soon. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_p37L3veJzQ.html&loop=0
I still miss this show so much...Every day I can come back to this and watch this show so much... Now there is the new Madame Secretary show on. And this new show gives me the same feeling. Politics and power wow!!!!
Love this show. Love the way it ended. Made me sad that it was over. Also made me think that we need people to run this country the way the writers thought.
I'd read that at one point, they were going to end the series with Santos losing. I think that'd gone down as one of the worst endings of a series ever, had they done that
I believe Vinick was supposed to win, but it was thought to be too hard to cope with after John Spencer passed away. I disagree that it would have been a terrible finish, Vinick was a worthy candidate for the position. It would have been a very balanced kind of ending. I would have been happy either way.
Great finale scene....Really nice.....Our current President will do the same thing. He will say good-by to the incoming President-Elect then President on that day.....
@MikeJames6 Obama did leave him a letter. But you do have a point about respecting the office - it'll be so nice to eventually have a President that actually does respect their office again.
You know the sad part about all of this; given how close this shows election was (literally one state), what the writers originally wanted, and the fact that this world was going into a 12 year democrat presidency; I honestly don't see any way the Santos administration could have lasted more than a single term. That being said, I would love to see a new series of West Wing, continuing on from this plot line. So much has happened in 20+ years that could make for great television story.
Where is the real Josh Lyaman? Come on America, surely there must be one, get of your ass find a candidate and get him or her into the White House before we all go up in atomic fire.
@MikeJames6 Any political monoculture breeds corruption. Who is around to keep them honest? The party machine ends up like the Church or any other monolith: if this state senator is having 15 affairs and must resign, he goes right into consulting for the party or something else. Companies begin to lean that political way to get favors in return... You need healthy competition or human beings of almost unparalleled moral fortitude and incorruptible ethics. Good luck with the latter.
@@MrBrachiatingApe I've been thinking lately that the US presidency should only be a single 5 year term. Far too much of the first term, no matter the party in charge, becomes a trade off to secure the reelect. Remove that element completely, know exactly what your whole span is going in. Your only concentration then is trying to accomplish what you said. Admittedly I did initially have this idea in mind with 6, but quickly balked at that being just a little too much, when it suddenly occurred to me, why are we so locked into this even years format? It's completely arbitrary. With being dead set on the single term concept, 4 then seems potentially too short, and too much of a radical change (though not like we don't know there will NEVER be ANY altering of the present set up), 5's a good compromise, what's it matter it's an odd number. Also if we're keeping Senators at 6 years they get a maximum of 2 terms. Literally no position in the govt should be a lifelong, complete career (don't even get me started on how dumb lifetime appointments are, for ANY govt post).
It was so sweet when Josh said "Thanks boss" when he looked at Leo's picture before recruiting Sam to be his Deputy Chief of Staff or as he said it "the me to my Leo."
