Dos and especially don'ts of youth rebellion - or is it social rebellion? Friedrich Schiller was an expert when it came to defying authority at high personal risk - his legendary first shot THE ROBBERS is one of the top ten German classics, summed up and presented to you by Michael Sommer and his Playmobil company. DISCLAIMER: WATCHING THIS VIDEO DOES NOT REPLACE READING THE PLAY. My recommendation: Read it yourself, watch it in the theatre, or, preferably, stage it!

Excellent video. Brilliant use of props and characters. However, as to the story: Is it really so full of plot-forced action? I know that we see unreasonable reaction for the purpose of driving the plot in today's Marvel movies (for example), but how can a work become a classic and survive if the actions don't puzzle together with any predictability? Did people in the past not know that humans are capable of lies and just being wrong sometimes, so that it's worth verifying big news before acting on it?

The actual play is complicated. Carl becomes a robber when he learns he is disinherited. However, he goes after the corrupt and is not interested in attaining wealth. He realizes that the robbers hurt the innocent during their attacks. Carl goes home and finds atonement after his shame at being such a reprobate. His father dies of a broken heart and his girlfriend asks Carl to kill her now that her life is so sad. He complies, and turns himself in to the authorities. Very intense study of politics and human motivation.
