(Intro paragraph) Alright, this isn't a random upload, not at all! I've reached fucking 300 subscribers, and I'm feeling in heaven! It's so great to see the support of many and not to mention their interest in bootlegs; I just want to say thank you all by uploading Stones' most special show I've heard, Knebby, August 21st '76 a recording not uploaded in its entirely on youtube yet!
You wanted the best? Well you've got th..., wait, this is KISS..
Despite my love for both bands, the Stones are the best, and this particular upload shows why!
As mentioned above, this is a very special recording since it was the last '76 show, even though it's not counted as part of the Black And Blue tour, it's a mainly soundboard recording and it's one of my favourite shows ever! You really want the best? Bill is at his best, Ronnie too, Mick too, Keef too, Charlie too, even Ollie E. and Billy are at their best!
Since it was a special occasion Stones streched up the show to 2 hours and 30 minutes with MANY rare additions like Route 66, Stray Cat Blues, Dead Flowers, Around and Around, Little Red Rooster, etc, not to mention a little 'Country Honk' tease by Mick after Honky Tonk Women (Do you know how to play it?)
As for their full performance, everyone is amazing! Mick's voice, despite being commonly sloppy, is top nocht! He's hitting almost all of the higher vocal notes and performing sharply! Bill's lines can be heard very well at the soundboard portion of the show and he just flies around the neck! Keith is not drugged out so is playing like himself, which is another meaning for God-like; Charlie Watts actually surprised me very much, his drum fills are out of this world, I've never heard him like that! And now, for the man I usually criticize, my least favourite Stones member is my favourite part of this show, Ronnie Wood! His solos: Better than Mick T, as Charlie, he surprised me a LOT! His noisy, amazing solo on Street Fighting Man make it my favourite live version of it live!
As its uploader I ask you (Demand you to LoL) enjoy this performance, by far on my top 10 shows
Setlist:
Satisfaction (They changed the opening number); 5:03 Ain't Too Proud to Beg; 9:28 If You Can't Rock Me (Best live version ever) ~~ Get Off My Cloud; 16:12 Hand Of Fate; 20:24 Around And Around; 24:33 Little Red Rooster; 29:42 Stray Cat Blues; 34:54 Hey Negrita (Top Nocht); 41:16 Hot Stuff; 46:56 Fool To Cry; 52:37 Star Star; 56:46 Let's Spend the Night Together; 1:01:53 You Gotta Move; 1:06:25 You Can't Always Get What You Want; 1:17:33 Dead Flowers; 1:22:06 Route 66; 1:25:54 Wild Horses (Top Nocht); 1:31:58 Honky Tonk Women ~~ Country Honk Tease; 1:35:50 Tumbling Dice; 1:40:22 Happy (Keith always had problems with this song); 1:44:14 Nothing From Nothing; 1:47:02 Outta Space; 1:50:58 Midnight Rambler; 2:04:42 It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (Odd version from such a great show); 2:09:24 Brown Sugar; 2:13:08 Rip This Joint; 2:15:17 Jumpin' Jack Flash; 2:19:28 Street Fighting Man (Best version EVER)
*(Special mention to user NomadTraveller100, Kat! She was the first to truly support my uploads, and for this I thank her)

The concert was on Saturday 21-8-1976 not 21-9-1976, I was there! The Stones came on very late, at about 11.30 pm but played for over 2 1/2 hours until just after 2.00 am on Sunday. They played 30 songs. Mick was 33 then and is still performing today at the age of 80!

What a show this must have been. Lynyrd Skynyrd at their very best and then The Stones with a 2 hour set. It only happened once in our lifetime. Amazing bands. Tragic for LS. What could have been. 2 of my favorite bands. Way to different to compare. I guarantee the Stones had nothing but respect for LS after their set.

Like several posters here, I was also there.... Rolling Stones came on something like 2 hours late. It had been a long day, with 10CC, Lynyrd Skynrd, Tom Petty etc. Stones started playing sometime after midnight as I recall and finished at whatever time it was. 4 of us were there to see it, we all slept in a van. The joys of being a teenager !

Hoping they get around to putting the entire Stones performance out on physical media as well. I was at this show, right down the front, having arrived a day and a half before for the extensive campfire entertainment. Show day was a gorgeous, hot day in a seemingly endless summer that year. (Happens about once a decade in the U.K) There's always a lot about how great Lynyrd Skynyrd were this day and they were pretty good. However, the fact that they closed with a great performance of a great song; Freebird, tends to have colored the perception of the rest of their performance. They were sure okay....and better than Hot Tuna, but essentially just another support act you had to get through to get to the main attraction. The Stones, when they finally came on, (thank you 10cc), were frequently sloppy of course, but also very, very great sometimes, and never less than exciting. That's who they are and it's all part of the reason they have lasted so long. Just the version of Satisfaction that the Stones opened with was light years better than anything else that had come before on this day. They may have finished at around 2 in the morning but I was 16, at a great show, and couldn't have cared less how late it ran.
@thetargets8515

Totally agree it took 10cc ages to set up and that killed the atmosphere a bit and the stones finished at 2 am but they were still brilliant
@harpoon_bakery162

yea, i heard that about 10cc too. the stones are the stones, there's no way any lead-up act is going to trump them. thanks for sharing your experience mr. Buffalo.

Totally agree Paul, I got home 6am totally drained and satisfied, I taped in on a mini cassette and wore it out over the next month, only wish they'd bring out the hour or so of it that exists on Blu Ray in 2020 ( Have it and the Paris shows on standard Dvds in a long while), but they could do with a little polishing up with hopefully Bob Clearmountain in control of the mixing.

Memories of being there as a 20 year old. We got in for free with all the others who pushe the barricades down. The Stones were ridiculously late (way past midnight, if I remember correctly) and it was a real hassle trying to get out of the grounds afterwards in pitch black darkness - facilities/services were virtually non existent back then.
@castra58
@castra58 8 лет назад
+skidco1 The same. I think they hit the stage about 11.45pm if I remember correctly. The feeling at the time was it wasn't one of the Stones best live shows. Remember Todd Rundgren & 10CC supporting. Think Lynyrd Skynyrd also? I think we left the car park about 8am the next morning after kipping in my mates old banger!
@skidco1
@skidco1 8 лет назад
+castra58 Hi. We arrived too late for Rundgren and Skynyrd but did catch 10cc. My recollection is that 10cc sounded atrocious; I believe they were trying to play live via a quad speaker set up (PA speakers at the rear of the grounds as well as on the stage), and they were also scheduled to record this set. Again if my memory is correct, the wind was blowing strongly left to right as we looked at the stage and this caused a delay effect in the sound coming from the bear speakers and everything being a huge sonic mess. Mind you, it was 40 odd years ago and I might be thinking of a different show! It's good to talk to you about this - back then, sat in that field, we would never have dreamed it would be possible to reminisce like this and listen to the show via the internet thingy.
@skidco1

+castra58 I've recently read somewhere that this holds the record for being the longest live show the Stones have ever played.

Just found this link - was there - what a long long day - the Stones were hours late. And were average. Ten CC were good. Was so tired leaving at 3am I drove 20miles up the A1 before I realised I should have been going south. During the Lynyrd S set a guy fell 20ft out of a tree right almost above us - took an hour to back an ambulance into the crowd - often wondered if he was Ok. And the people he landed on.

Hey. thanks for this amazing upload and also for your description. Seems like there's a bunch of people posting comments here who don't understand what the stones are all about. If you don't get it, you never will. I will say that lynard skynard certainly weren't the best musicians touring around in the mid to late 70s. I was just watching a documentary about the eagles. there's a group right there that featured guitarist way more versatile than the ones in Skynyrd. But whatever. Like I said, some people don't understand Rock and roll. This is a great show. Fool to cry was perfect. All the black and blue songs sound great. One thing about your description though, Keith was still way fucked up on smack, he didn't get off it till 78

What's odd about It's Only Rock 'n' Roll? That's the best live version I've heard.

I was there they flew in at 2am by helicopter. Everything was running late. The stage was a tongue sticking out into the crowd. There were huge blow up lips on tje front of the stage .the sticky fingers logo

Thanks for uploading this! Bits of this are brilliant, some is so-so. Too much of this sounds like a drunk bar band. Skynyrd had a great concert. I generally love the Stones, but this concert? Only a few highlights.

Just as an example, compare "Dead Flowers" here to either of the earlier versions recorded in Texas. They blow this one away.

Disagree completely....I consider this one of their best shows of the 70's....hands down.....besides the Black and Blue tracks....the incredibly awesome boogie funk jam medley of If you Can't Rock Me/Get Off of My Cloud.....the interplay and chemistry between Richard's and Wood is unparalleled....prior to Wood in the band Richard's would sleep walk thru shows....barely playing or being heard behind the virtuoso Mick Taylor.....Taylor's bombastic Claptonesque lead assaults would wear thin....especially since with the exception of his fingers wouldn't move or twitch a muscle an entire show.....

@@johanvanspaandonck4481 I have plenty of respect for him...pal ....I own all 2 of his studio solo albums and 4 live albums....I have seen him twice ...unlike the majority of Taylorites who disrespect the great Ron Wood I actually followed him afterward and supported him as a fan....the fact remains that Ron Wood was a better and longer lasting fit for the Stones and Taylor was infinitely better solo shredding blues.....

Thanks George for all that great stuff ! By the way, I've got a Stones bootleg called "Stones Live 71-75"... a mix of different songs, including an awesome version of "Tumblin' Dice", with Ronnie Wood's best solo on it (IMHO...). But i dont have the material to uplaod it here... Have you got this LP maybe ? If yes, then could you upload it too here on YT ? Thanks in advance !

wish someone would reupload the knebworth wild horses without all the crackling sounds. it used to be on youtube years ago and someone took it down. ever since then, i've not been able to find it. that version was the exact same performance, but without all the crackling sounds

Isn't there a slim chance for this gig to be released in polished, remastered, From The Vaults version, in CD, DVD and Blue Ray? I mean, they did for a super sloppy show like L.A Friday...
