Wemby is clearly rookie of the year give wemby Chet’s team and this wouldn’t be close at all

Wemby is better in every stats but shooting efficiency and the gap is closing there. He is also more creative, a better defender, a higher upside. He is basically the total package and baring injury we are looking at the face of the league for the next 10 years at least.

I find it interesting that I keep hearing about Chet being the best rookie when Wemby leads all rookies in every category despite a minutes restriction. Rookie of the Year should be about the best player, not the best team. I'mma guess Wemby would be a bit more efficient with SGA on his team too. Not taking anything from Chet. He deserves his flowers. All of them. It just seems like a lot of people are looking for any reason to not give Wemby his.

Wemby should win because he is clearly the better player. Not only is he doing better the Chet but he’s doing it in 25-26 mins of play time as well as already missing like 5-6 games because of not playing him on back to backs or injury. This is Chet’s second year not rookie year…even though he didnt play he still had the staff and the know how for 1 full year of how the NBA works. Wemby is also having to come from Euro play which is different than the NBA.

Chet in last 5 games: 12.4 points, 6.2 rebs at 39% FG Wemby in last 5 games: 27.2 points, 8.8 rebs at 56% FG Not to mention Chet's 2.4 blocks to Wemby's 3.2 blocks per game in last 5... Also Chet played 32 minutes per game in last 5 compared to Wemby's minutes restricted 26 minutes per game. Hmmmmmmmmmm......

Your stats are too outdated. I'll give u the latest ones as of today 01/18/24, and my two cents on the matter. The argument for CHET being better than WEMBY is totally absurd and does not hold water at all. Both are considered super rookies at this point in their young careers, but if we are to look at the numbers, bruh... WEMBY is clearly a superior player and way better than CHET. WEMBY - 19.8 pts, 10.1 rebs, 2.9 assts, 3.1 blks, 1.1 steals CHET - 17.4 pts, 7.3 rebs, 2.8 assts, 2.5 blks, 0.7 steals These are the NBA's 5 major statistical categories and Wemby tops Chet 5 to nothing. The notion that Chet is better than Wemby because of Chet's "efficiency" and field goal percentage and Chet's Wins is purely nonsensical. It's like saying Rudy Gobert is better than Jokic and AD simply because Gobert's FG% is at a whopping 63.4% for the season while contributing a double-double with 13.1 pts and 12.2 rebs so he's having quite an "impact" to his T'Wolves team who currently sits atop the Western Conference. So, should we just then disregard Jokic's season ave of 25.5 pts, 11.9 rebs, 9.3 assts while shooting "only" at 57.5% or AD's 25.1 pts, 12.1 rebs, 3.5 asst at "only" 55.1 FG%?!? Why? because, again, the argument for Gobert's is that he's much more efficient with his shot at 63.4% and his team is the Best in the West?! While Gobert's efforts are worthy of high praise, one cannot agree to this dumb idea that Gobert is better than Jokic and AD. Unfortunately, numbers dont lie. Same goes for Wemby and Chet. While Chet is indeed better in terms of efficiency, FG% and wins, Wemby is still the better player overall and the best Rookie (so far), and it's not even close! I mean, c'mon, look at Wemby's numbers again in pts, rebs, assts, blks and stls, all better than Chet's. Wemby is better offensively and defensively, that's on both ends of the court. He's also better with his playmaking and hustle plays, averaging a double-double and he even leads the league in blocks per game and total blocks made. That latter part alone should tilt towards Wemby's favor as that's the entire NBA we are talking about, whereas Chet, he rides only with SGA's brilliance night in and night out! It is also important to note that, FG% is just a minor stat. We look up to these superstar players such as Jordan, Lebron, Shaq, Duncan, Kobe, Curry, Giannis, Jokic, etc because of the spectacular numbers they produce in the NBA's 5 major statistical categories: points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks in any given night. FG% is just indicative of how hot they are that night or how badly they shot at the rim, nothing more. As long as these players get to 80 pts, 70 pts, 60 pts, 50 pts or 40 pts or 30 pts, nobody cares how many shots it took them to get those points. We're just in awe of what they've done. Same with rebounds or blocks for the bigs, and assists and steals for the guards or wing players. The impact in the game is mostly reflected by these 5 major stat categories they produce each night. And of course, there are other factors to consider, like how great your teammates played that night, or how they totally sucked at it, and there's the coaching as well, not to mention the total minutes played, and/or the minutes restrictions, all of these contributes a lot on Winning and/or Losing the games you played in. But in terms of the head-to-head match up between Wemby and Chet, I gotta say that so far, WEMBY is undeniably a much better player than Chet right now as shown by his season averages. WEMBY leads all rookies in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks per game. Wemby should take the top spot in any Rookie of the Year rankings and should win the ROY award when it's all said and done, not because of the narrative such as the Lebron-Melo race back in 2004, but because WEMBY is absolutely the better scorer, the better rebounder, the better at assisting teammates, the better at shotblocking and steals than Chet. GO! SPURS! GO!

You would be wrong. Wemby not only leading in stats his efficiency is catching up. He not only has more 20point games, more 30 point games, more double doubles. He doing it in less minutes and even has less plays run for him as Chet gets through a game. Not to mention Chet 21 years old and has been practicing with NBA talent for 3 years and been in NBA offseason and coaching and film study for 2 years. If Wemby was on the Thunder... putting up these numbers with SGA.... the Thunder would be a championship contender right now. Chet is AMAZING... but Victor is the better player playing on a worse roster. Chet has the benefit of playing with a group of players who are very very talented. Chet has helped to unlock the Thunder to be a dark horse. Victor is getting better and better. His efficiency and numbers have all gotten better since the change to C and Tre Jones as the PG.

It's not because of any narrative it's because of Victor's advanced INDIVIDUAL talents and contributions to ANY team

I never see the kind of double or even triple teams on chet that I see on Victor every night. That is the huge factor take into consideration when comparing shooting efficiencies: 1) Chet plays with a superstar at guard and that helps immensly in getting good poessions and great shots selection 2) there are too many threats from distance in OKC for defenses to blitz around holmgren which leaves him space to attack. In the meantime the spurs are atrocious at 3pt shooting, started a PF at PG for more than a month. So this is a very bad hand for Victor. I still believe that Chet is more refined from a shooting perspective than Victor so far. But the real difference btw the two is not what the true shooting stats reveal.

Great video! Your take with Melo and bron is what I been saying both great talents. However, one is just more. Plus Wemby last 15 or 16 games have been cheat code mode and his efficiency has blossomed. Look at the last 19 games and look at Chet’s last 19 for context

Chet isn't a rookie. He spent his rookie year injured. Wemby has had minute restrictions because of his ankle. Injuries happen and if this were on a minute to minute average Wemby would be leading by a mile. That said Holgrem spent his rookie season injured but that's just physically not mentally. It's also probably what his career will look like missing full seasons cuz of injury.

The difference with the 04 rookie race was both Melo and Lebron were averaging 21ppg. Wemby is averaging 20.5ppg while Chet only 17ppg. This video is stupid. Wemby is leading in every category except 3pt%. In fact, Wemby has been more efficient than Chet in the last 13 games. 52/34/86 for Wemby and 54/32/61 for Chet. Wemby is also averagin 25ppg, 9rpg, 3.5bpg in that span while Chet is averaging 16ppg, 7rpg and 2bpg. My question is, if Wemby led in every single category, ppg, rpg, apg, spg, bpg, including shooting % would you still argue that Chet deserves the award over Wemby simply because of wins? As per Jan 18, 2024 the NBA stats show the following. With regard to points, rebounds, blocks and steals per game, Victor has the edge over Chet. With regard to assist per game they are even and Chet has a lower turnover rate. With regard to the percentages, Chet has a higher shooting and 3-pnt percentage and free throw percentage is relatively the same.
