Same here! I remember when this came out on Ask Rufus--such a mystical, cool song. I love when Chaka does the more obscure songs from her catalogue!!! Loved this whole album. Chaka is an effortless singer--I don't think she knows how to hit a sour note!
i was scared to watch a live version of this...thought it would break my long love affair with this joint. Iwill forever b e in love with Chaka. DAAAAmn the even did the reprise at the end with the violins.....goose bumps all over.
I've heard her sing almost everything, singing with her for years. But she NEVER performed this one, and this is the song that I fell in love with her voice and spirit to. Amazing. Thanks for uploading. Blessings.
Blessings to you Mrs Sandra, the late great Teena Marie thought so too! Check it out - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OCM2oAWgtro.html
This performance is incredble!!💦 Chaka Khan is no joke by far!! Mucho Love to you Soul Sista' Sandra.... I was just listening to ' Say Love' last nite☺✌....I Looove that song by ' The Family Stand'....PEace & Blessings....Shalom Sandra St. Victor
Amen and halleluyah! I wish she'd do one of those "album" tours, singing it JUST as we remember it, like this track....SHE....IS....PITCH....PERFECT all these years later OMG
@@walkerpantera I don't know about pitch perfect. She was when she was with and on into the 90's. I saw her at those times when she was beasting. I mean when I first saw her in 75 she made my hair stand straight up on my head. Her voice w as incredible. She can still sing but nothing like when she was with Rufus. I'm sure the smoking, drinking and drugs affected her voice as she aged as well. I'm surprised she can still sing at all.
THE 200TH INDIVIDUAL WHO LIKE THIS...CHAKA STILL GOT IT LIKE IT AIN,T NOTHING...MY GIRL IS THE BUSINESS...YOU GO CHAKA, CHAKA, CHAKA KHAN.....GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS...I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO CHAKA SINCE FOR EVER. THAT VOICE IS POWERFUL...
Chaka is in my opinion a superb jazz artist and her Voice is an instrument that works so well with her orchestras and backups. Each song and version is a delight. She brings out the best.Nobody does it better or makes us feel this way!
I never thought I would ever here her sing this song! Ask Rufus is my favorite album and if I could hear her sing "Better Days and Earth Song" I'll be good!!!
Still looks and sounds great. I love how she’s accompanied by The Roots and an entire orechestra, but her vocals are what you’re really paying attention to. What a voice on that woman!
There are problem is Recording Corporations don't want Soul Music anymore, unless it's lip-synced by a white female or a half-breed. The only great Blue-Eye Souls songstress ever was Teena Marie.
@@dontbeasucka.61 - Yup, after Teena Marie the *_"They BROKE the MOLD"_* never to copy her again. She's DEFINITELY UP there with Chaka & God-Mother of Soul Aretha. Listen deeply to her song *_"I've Been Here Before,"_* yes, as a *_SOUL SISTER._* She came back one last time for Us as *_Soul ~ Lady T._* When she said in her last verse _"I THANK God I'm Not Coming Back No More!"_ She meant that. NO white female will ever come even Light-Years close to Teena in NO other lifetime. Looking at her Father, I wonder is he Creole, being that her Parents are from Louisiana.
@MemoGrafix don't know but she could be? But yesterday's great singers a lot of them were in the church and sang on choirs and sometimes solo...they had on the job training back then, and that's why they were so good! But like you said, all they want to do today is put a pretty girl up there usually light skined and they never really had that on the job training as yesteryears singer's. Then they teach them how to sing and very few can sing even remotely well but you have to be doing that most of your life and not Pick up some pretty girl and try to teach her how to sing in a short time....and the result of doing it the way it's done today? #straightgarbage
This is one of my favorite songs of hers ever! So glad she chose to perform this song live. I had sensed that it wasn't meant to be a live performance song, but it's so mesmerizing and she sings it with such ancient, mysitical passion.
Wow. I never thought I would hear or see this particular song (it's one of my favorites) being performed live. Thank YOU LORD for interpretation. Chaka nails it.
One of my favorites from a solo album I never thought I'd ever hear her sing LIVE ! Amazing that she still has the vocals to deliver it just like she did 30+ years ago. Looking and sounding GREAT !!!
Loved seeing and hearing this. One of my favorite songs by Chaka. Sounded almost exactly the same; orchestra at the end too. Cool seeing QuestLove and The Roots as her band. I see this was published March 2019; wonder when it was actually performed? She looked healthy. Love you Chaka!
Thank God we still got her she still got them high notes she is phenomenal there is none like her black women of that time period there are no quals to there superiority. Now a days I can't say that with the same confidence wait a minute yes I can!!!
This is one of my favorite classics by Chaka and Rufus!! She is tearing it up with The Roots!!!! She is in perfect full voice here!!!! OMG She needs to do this one more often!!!!
In 1977 I was in the 9th grade and the first time that I heard this we were smoking weed and a strong presence of spirituality took over my mind that I became weak and tears fell from my eyes the entire song! Now at 60 I'm feeling the same way hearing it again!
I had the same Experience when I saw her at the Apollo years ago, I have friends that have met her Chilled with her and sing with her Daughter Milini...I wish that I could😊
@Adam It's not so much her for, but interpretation. She doesn't like singing songs the same way (and that's in key; format; phrasing; harmony, etc.). So, sometimes this gets interpreted as she's not in voice that night from the uninitiated. But it's not that at all, usually.
@Adam. So true. Have all of her albums and have seen her live several times. It's never the same concert. That's what makes it magical. Mood, tone, phrasing, intonation. A true artist and legend. If you want only the album version, listen (with quality headphones) you won't be disappointed. But you'll be missing out. Chaka is THE QUEEN OF FUNK.
This song is years ahead of its time. Just think she is singing this song many many years after recording it. And she's bringing the magic just like yesterday. She's a wizard of wonder.. Spirit keep her surrounded in your peace joy and protection..🌹❤️🎉💯🦾🔥🐘🙏
Amazing how about four years ago I went thru every favorite singer of mines catalogue- Chaka included. Obviously listened to Ask Rufus, but can’t recall anything about this song. I took away knowing Better Days! Seems like it’s time for me to go back through the entire catalogues of my favs again! Smh
To start my day hearing this brought tears of joy to me. THIS song is why I fell in love with Chaka! And the strings at the end is pure bliss. She is such a treasure...🔥🔥🔥💖💖💖🎼🎼🎼
