Can I just point out that Aretha Franklin's funeral is the best description of a black funeral on this planet we don't mourn the dead we celebrate they life
That's why I'm watching this morning. This performance by Chaka Khan at Aretha Franklin's funeral inspires spiritual joy. After sheltering-in-place and missing Thanksgiving, Christmas and New year's Eve celebrations, I was feeling depressed. Not anymore. Now I know that I was afflicted with self-pity. Aretha is still giving me happiness and strength, God bless her.
Here are the receipts that CHAKA KHAN can sing ANYTHING! Marques, this Home Going celebration was just spectacular yet sad that Ms. Franklin was not alive to see herself be honored. It would be nice if we honored our Kings and Queens while they are still with us. I mean a real good hour or two just for them not knocking the BET Honors or BET Music Awards but a show just for that one artist or group/band. Ms. Franklin will be sorely missed🌹
Not only your eyebrows, Minister Louis Farrakhan, Michael Eric Dyson and Reverend Jesse Jackson (although, he needed assistance). The whole congregation rose to their feet.
She may not have known the words and read it from the back of a fan, but she still ate that song up, especially the end.😂😂🙌🏽 That choir killed it the entire funeral.
Thalia T. Chaka grew up as a Catholic !!! However I agree Chaka did Know this song !!! I saw her sing it at Mama Mcclarys Funeral (matriarch of the Mc Clary gospel family) & she tore it up!! In fact she sang without a mic I believe and sung the angels down from heaven!!! Idk why they took it off RU-vid!!!
Chaka has lost so many of her good friends thru out the years. She once stated that they were icons to many but they were her friends. Aretha, Prince, Whitney Houston, Natalie Cole, Donna Summer. It's heartbreaking to think what she's gone thru. Chaka is a survivor!
Yup! So many of the very best artist (of various genres) love her, she's good or great friends with. So, you can only imagine how she feels when they die, and she's asked to sing one more.
My sentiments exactly, Jeff. Life is no cake walk for Chaka Khan, but she never gives up. I don't remember a single year that she ever stopped performing. As a Chaka Khan fan, she has always been there for me!
I am a Muslim and in the same time I appreciates how people express saying goodbye to a dead person in celebrated way. Someday, All of us will go down there to the Lord. May God bless you all. Love from Kuwait 🇰🇼❤
She said that she was going to be nervous....that's probably why...she knew Aretha' s standards were high and was nervous about messing up. However, she is always amazing and did a fabulous job!!!
Don't let the fact that she's reading the lyrics off her fan deflect the fact that she can sing it better on the spot than your favs who had a week rehearsal!
Happy Birthday Queen Ladies and gents meatloaf made Put feets toes toenails All up in there Miss Chaka Khan Thank you Maaam Just Amazing. That Skat Ending
She knows what she’s doing. She begins slow then goes high then low and then blasts it out! She teases the audience as they beg for more of this unusual pitch, range and abstraction of her voice. Genius!
pure genius when she let it go chills everyday great job thank you Chaka look at Judge Mathis Farrakhan and Jesse and the 3 ladies behind her she even started to scat brillant
Ok, this is for the folks that don't know that is "CHAKA". You have to understand that! She took this song to another level along with the director "Kurt Carr". Also, Chaka had just arrived from the airport and given the lyrics to this song! Give this ICON a break! Raised Catholic and brought the House down like she was "Old School Southern Baptist" with Jazzy twist! Again, THIS IS CHAKA BABY! Sang mama! Over 65 and blowing better than 20 year olds. Autotune my foot!
Chaka doesn’t remember the lyrics to some of her own stuff & the fact she read from the back of that fan and didn’t miss a beat is a testament to her professionalism and musicianship!!!
hunny blush I idolize her😫💓.. did you see the Queen and signature color hair and fan looking like the Queen of Upper and Lower Egypt.. giving us Ma'at realness.. she most certainly took up yonder👆😇💯
Chaka been singing since the 70's n still can sang no auto tune here just God given talent. Chaka can't even hold the mic to close when let go. Who young or old can do that no one without God's hand on her life...keep singing Chaka luv u❤️
Chaka sang her behind off🥰!!!, took US ALL THE WAY TO CHURCH💒 WHILE WE WERE @ CHURCH🙏🏾.... Then just when you thought 💭 she was thru she BLESSED US AGAIN WITH HER BEAUTIFUL VOICE🎤🎼!!!....Now this is SANGIN’🙌🏾......THE LORD & ARETHA ARE MORE THAN PLEASED W/THIS AWESOME TRIBUTE FROM CHAKA KHAN!
Of note to those who choose to be critics- her presence, although physically small engulfed the whole church. Look at the faces of those behind her, enthralled by the sheer magnitude of her delivery. As to the use of the fan, she may have been unfamiliar with the song as she was not raised Baptist but rather Catholic. As a fellow recovering Catholic, I wish we had this kind of service as part of our liturgy. Off key or not, Chaka rocked the house, what a great tribute from one Queen to another.
So What, if she was reading from her fan, I love her. She is and will forever be, one of America's Crown Jewels! You should treasure her, she is unique and will always be loved, Bless Chaka.
Was there at my Aunty Aretha Franklin's Fune, and have been rewatching this ever since. So many of those celebrities were balling their eyes out. It was mentioned that they had to help Aunty Chaka Khan in the church, she wasn't ready to come inside. Just couldn't get herself to walk inside. She was grieving hard. So for Queen Mother Chaka Khan to even attempt to sing is a blessing in itself. Plus, she's still a legend, a great! #MissChristineChronicles
That fact that folks like Chaka & Patti even still have access to those upper chest belts so many decades later is crazy. Aretha still had access to toward her later years. These women have always, & will always be THOSE GIRLS on the mic! The best of the best.
OMG, I loved this. Spontaneous...In the moment...in the spirit. You could see how the whole room felt the spontaneity of what was delivered. Chaka is an original. She and Aretha were friends, and singing for a dead friend's funeral, in front of your friend's casket, trying to honor your friend and do something to lift people up, while you yourself are grieving, emotional and need lifting, is one of the toughest gigs there is. Aretha would be proud!
It's sad, but also joyous. Sister Chaka, sings and swings, shuffles and sways her way across that big stage like a magnificent, powerful force of nature.
Please tell me that I am not the only that watches this everyday. I don't care what anybody says. This was jamming! Chaka was raised Catholic so give her a break. Love you Chaka!
It's not only that voice of hers, but herself as well. The way everyone was smiling was due to her wonderful beautiful smile. She just excudes charm and warmth. That's why everyone was so happy. She Lifted everyone's spirit to The Lord's.
Wowie wow wow wow! Aretha was surely crying and smiling. Chaka, please forgive me, I know it was a spiritual event, but holy freaking crap!! Unforgettable.
I love this lady and she can get her lyrics from her shoe for all l care. She is a naturally great singer. She has never been anyone but herself. Respect
@@ccstarlite370 I know some of her family. She came from a good place. 😃 I like her because she's just a great Singer and Personality. Never met her though.
Aretha has been in all our lives for generations, her passing has touch us all, but its Chaka that moved us all with Grace and a voice that touched our souls....
Hey we can't expect the Singers to remember all of the words to songs! The fan was a clever thing. One thing for sure...she is singing live and no lip singing going on here! That's true talent!
Look at how far she puts the mic away from her mouth but still the volume of her voice doesnt change. I remember when Peter Cetera said in an interview how Chaka destroyed a microphone because of her power 😂 Chaka and Patti are the loudest of them all 😊
Oh...by the way, for those who are checking for the living legend-- Chaka Khan, Queen Chaka can read from a "McDonald's Kids Happy Meal Menu", a fan, wall, etc., she will make it do what it do---- EVERYTIME and ALL THE TIME--so get into it!!!!.
