Though this song is better known today as "The Rose of Alabammy,'" I chose to keep its original title since I am singing the original 1846 lyrics. This song is on my latest CD "PATCHWORK" which is available at: tomroush.us or at iTunes at: itunes.apple.c...

this song is so well-used in the jose wales soundtrack, weaving in and out with the other musical themes and arrangements; from camp circle to symphonic aaron copland-esque to riding off into the sunset...

@@AlexanderMcRae its not, where does it reference succession or the confederacy and was written nearly 20 years before the civil war started.
@AveTrueToCaesar8212
@AveTrueToCaesar8212 3 года назад
@@AlexanderMcRae That doesn’t inherently mean it’s a Confederate song, just that soldiers from the South enjoyed singing it to raise moral during a time of war. Is Lorena a Union song just because some of their soldiers sang it during the Siege of Vicksburg and afterwards? No, because it’s a southern song, same as this one. It has no particular affiliation with either faction, unlike a song such as Dixie’s Land, which does have an obvious connection to the Confederacy (but is still an excellent song and I love it dearly).
