I grew up with Roy Budd, he lived just a few streets away from me in a little place called Hackbridge in Surrey. He was a child prodegy. When he was only 6 years old when he came to our house, got straight up on the piano and started playing the most amazing boogie-woogie. I remember the milkman coming to the door and asking if we were playing a record. My Mum led him into our front room and he couldn't believe his eyes ! Later on Roy came back to his roots to marry Katerina Valente, Hackbridge didn't know what hit it with all the celebs that were there !! It's such a shame that he died so young.
I grew up next door to his brother Peter, an accomplished guitarist, in the suburbs of Chicago. Peter is still playing! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1wyL6ycSDpQ.html
I think Roy Budd is so underrated. Whilst most will no doubt have heard of the likes of Lalo Schifrin, this modest English genius of jazz, like many of the films he provided the score for, has remained at the periphery of most people's musical radar (except, perhaps, for Get Carter). Roy Budd's jazz funk compositions put him right up there in my opinion and. as this great video demonstrates, he could also give Michel Petrucciani a run for his money! Many thanks for posting.
excellent pianist, who had nothing to envy to the greatest musicians of the world. They were their equal. thank you for posting this video. Unfortunately, there are not enough videos of Roy Budd in youtube
When I first heard this live I thought that it may change key or swing four...something needed to happen.I was not disappointed in that it picked up tempo and wow what a finish. The great drummer,Chris Karan, was clenching his teeth and playing his heart out towards the end.I;m so glad its been out on RU-vid.GREAT
Having listened to this a lot over the years I've only just realised that Alf Bigden, sitting on the left at 1:22 may have been the house drummer for the evenings proceedings, with Chris Karen was using Alfs kit to sit in.Correct me if I'm wrong Chris?
