This week The Royal Enfield Classic 350, Betsy visits Holly the Café Boat.
Over new roads to Bollington and the canal wharf, where Holly the Café Boat opens for coffee, tea, cake and the most amazing sausage rolls I have ever tasted!
Vic and Joanna converted the narrow boat and capture their life aboard on RU-vid, ‪@HollyTheCafeBoat‬
They announce opening times on their Facebook page, Holly the Café Boat. www.facebook.c...
It’s well worth a visit if you are in the area, there is parking along side where you can see your bikes, tell them Dave, That Bloke on the Motorbike sent you.

I remember going for a ride to Bollington with my Ducati riding friend. We went to Steve Wynne’s premises. He was of course the man who brought Hailwood back to the TT to win on a Ducati! He was uncrating a Bimota DB1 at the time just arrived in the country! Great video as per usual! 👍

Hi Dave , just had my new renewal for a Tiger 900 GT with a couple of add ons engine bars , Givi box. I’m retired and 69yrs. I have 5 yrs no claims protected. I have legal cover and clothing cover with personal cover included. The price is £262. I’m with Hastings motorcycle insurance. Hope it’s worth a try. Shiny up. Enjoy retirement. Haven’t missed a single day of shift work. Best wishes

I just discovered your vlog today when I was checking in on Holly The Cafe Boat. What a fun vlog you have, Congrats on retiring and now you can enjoy more travels on Betsy. I would love to pop in on Holly someday. It will include a very long plane flight but it would be worth it.

Amazing couple who run Holly the Cafe boat. Been watching them on RU-vid for a while now, and coincidentally we visited them for the first time this Sunday just gone!! Amazing coffee and cakes! They had run out of sausages rolls that day, will have one next time! Thanks so much for your run out. Bollington is a lovely place, full of history. Must get up there one day, on 'Ruby' my RE Classic 350!!.

Great ride along! The hills look steeper on the downhill in the camera on the return trip. Congrats on the pending retirement! I've been retired four years, it still doesn't seem real. If you are like me, you'll be catching up on all the things you put aside while working.

I retire on sept 1st. I have always flipped between saga & Hastings £125 for tiger 800 a 2018 and £120 for a 300cc scooter both fully comp with £150 excess Try compare the market they have good deals but I tend to stick with the above

£160 with Hastings (I’m retired) on ADV350 (more powerful than RE350) and this is higher than some friends pay. Derbyshire but Sheffield postcode. Had a bad experience with old company when their computers were down for about a week when I wanted to change vehicle forcing me to cancel and start a new 12 month policy with a different company. Been told relatives in Macclesfield use that cafe

I'm planning a ride to the WW1 battlefields in Belgium and France for next year tracing the location 3 of my relatives fought in, 2 are buried there, the other got home but died of wounds a year later. Hi mate, these bikes are just amazing at what they do. But I agree with what you say, the views are the main thing, any bike can take you on adventures, whether for a half-hour on back lanes or crossing continents. I read once of a bloke who went around the world and his bike of choice was a Honda 90, he said you can get parts in any village all over the world. Stay safe, Dave

Hi Dave. I do an internet search on comparison sites each time my vehicles need new insurance. That way you can ensure you are getting a competitive quote. I hope this helps 😀

Re. The insurance.. I'm in my second year with Hastings for my 2022 classic 350. I pay just over £10 a month. Aged 66, clean licensr. Try them

Another cracking video Dave, I’m afraid that things have changed regarding insurance, you use to get a discount for being loyal to a particular company, unfortunately now they seem to rip off customers who renew their policy, you always have to get multiple quotes to get the best deal now, I use MCN compare to get quotes and go with what I think is the best policy for me each year, last year I was with Bennets this year they doubled the price, shopped around and got the same cover for a couple of quid less than last year’s price 🤔 any way you enjoy your retirement buddy 👍 all the best 👍

Hi, they are from Goldtop, lined with Marino wool, very comfortable, waxed leather. I’m with Hastings and they’ve just quoted me £270 for my multi bike fully comp. insurance. I understand the “Drum and Monkey” is an old navy reference. The monkey being a brass plate indented so that canon balls could be stacked into a pyramid. 👍

@@thatblokeonamotorbike The phrase about it being "cold enough to freeze the balls of a brass monkey" is also related. In cold weather, iron cannon-balls contract at a different rate to that of the brass plate; in very cold weather the balls would roll off the plate as the dimples on the plate could no longer retain them, hence the term.

Try MCN for insurance quote. I am 70, ride a Suzuki GSX650F and paid £160 this week for a years fully comp with breakdown cover. Some of the other comparison sites are also worth a look, plus I would ring up some of the companies and give them a list of quotes to see if they will offer better deal to get your custom.

With the insurance, as I understand it, you don’t receive no claims discount on every bike in the multi bike deal. Therefore on at least one you will be quoted the full price. So I would suggest phoning a broker, such as Bikesure, who will be able to explain this properly.

Hi Martin, I spoke to an insurance specialist this week, he said if you insure them as separate bikes, you can only use the NCD on one bike. On a multibike policy uses the discount on all the bikes, but you can only ride one at a time! I hate sorting insurance out. Ride safe, Dave

Try Mackenzie Hodgson insurance i am 64 years old my bike is an immaculate Harley Davidson softail classic 1585cc and i pay £228 fully comp!! Bike is insured for i think £9.000. Sounds like you are being ripped off!!. Hope you get sorted mate.

Hi I've not had a bike since 2010 so no claims has long gone and I'm collecting a brand new interceptor next week I'm 45 years old and got it fully comp with my dad on the policy as a named rider I've got the opinion to ride other bikes and take pillions 280 quid with Hastings direct

You'd struggle with the bridges on the canals with a motorbike on the roof of your narrowboat. Ones I've seen have all had them on a little platform off the stern. Mind you, they were little bikes - a scooter and a small 125ish.

Hi What are you insuring, have you had the bike gold plated? I have a Bronze chrome 350 classic registered Dec 22. I renewed my insurance fully comp last December with Bikesure it cost me £103.76.

@@thatblokeonamotorbike Hi Dave lets have a look at the 350 with the sidecar that would be interesting, as all your videos are, they are always full of nice scenery with snippets of interesting info. It doesn't pay to stay with the same insurance company. last December my renewal quote was £230 from £90 the year before. How they justify that I don't know, didn't ask. Paul

Ah'do, I retired a month ago & have a bronze Classic 350 . I need a case for my iphone, what do you have for your phone, is it waterproof? Cheers.

Hi it's from Ultimate Addons, it really is good, the phone is fully enclosed, waterproof and well protected. It has a mount fitted to the bars and clips in securely. You can still use the touch screen, not with gloves on though. With it being fully enclosed you can't use the side buttons. Hope this helps, ride safe, Dave

Hi, I've been looking and Bennetts can cover both bikes for less than half the cost, with the same cover. I thought it was extortion, been riding 50 years , instruction for 40 of them and advanced test since 1979. I will have a look at 1 call, thanks the the info, ride safe, Dave

It's mad isn't it. They will only let you use the no claims discount on one bike. Thats why the multibike cover is better. All are insured but they know you can only ride one at a time. One reason it is so expensive is the rate of theft of bikes, the deterrents need to be much more. ride safe, Dave
