That rear sight is definitely a big improvement over stock, I like it. Unfortunately for those of us getting "long in the tooth", iron sights no longer work with my 60 year old eyes, so a 1-6 power tactical scope with a red illuminated reticle is the only way for me to go.
A word of warning. I tried to take the original rear sight off of my brand new Mini-14 recently to install a Tech Sight. The top of the screw that holds it in immediately chewed-off like it was made out of pot metal. I bought a set of bits for my drill that should have immediately loosened the screw. Nope. I tried a soldering iron at 400 degrees to loosen what should only be blue Loc-tite holding the screw. Nope. All I managed to do was turn the top of the screw into what now looks like a rivet. My only options now are to either have it professionally drilled out or live with the original rear sight. The sight is not exactly ideal, but it works fine. Unbelievable.
He mentioned that post 2005 sights are fine no need to remove.Anyway you’re probably like me and have urge to pull & change things even if they don’t need fixing. However i learned from another video that one can get a heat gun on that screw to liquefy lock-tire then use long nose pliers to remove the old screw
Nice to know it’s not just me experiencing this! My 580-series Mini-30 stock rear peep absolutely shit the bed and won’t even stay locked in place. I bought replacement rear irons, but the screw that’s holding those stock irons WILL. NOT. BUDGE. Used heat, gentle coaxing, the screwhead was starting to get chewed up. Will have to have a gunsmith take it off bc I’m not trying to break my rifle.
@@j0nnY77x The pre 2005 sights and the post 2005 sights mount and work differently... Pre 2005serial #'s start with 180 - 190's as first 3 digits... 580's and up are the NEW GENS... Tech Sights will send you the appropriate fitting based on your serial # .... They will mount differently but will function and look the same.
@@jpb1231000 That's the part that's confusing! On the website it says it does not fit anything newer than 2005 but when I click on the description for this same exact sight it states that it does fit the 580 series and rifles made before 2005.Thank you for clarifying that for me. One more question if you don't mind but did you have to heat the screw on the original sight to remove it or did it just come right off?
It looked like there was a slight movement on the sight body when you pressed on it with your thumb at the 3:35 mark? Regardless, the Tech Sight is a good upgrade from the old factory peep. Thanks for the video!
Just ordered the RR200 rear sight since the existing rear sight aperture just slides off on my rifle. Not sure if it is designed that way (not likely), but I suspect that it just broke off.
I feel Im wasting my time looking for Tech Sight or anyone else's rear sight aperatures. I'm interested in a v notch or u notch for quick target acquisition and better sight picture as opposed to squinting through a stupid little peep. This shouldn't be impossible to find but it is. Moving on to AK's next.
With the Tech Site, is it just the rear that gets replaced, or both the front and rear (as with the 10/22 Tech Sites)? Is there any way to have a co-witness setup (Tech Sites and a red dot or scope)?
Maybe you can help me. I have an original 70's Mini with an ALL wooden stock. It has a 180- serial #. It's in mint condition & I love it,...but I'm getting up there in age & I have always hated the rear sight. Is there anything I can do with this old rifle to update my rear sights,...Ruger said there is nothing u can do on them until the 181 & 182- series. HELP !!
Where can i find replacement or/different apertures to replace the one that comes with the tech sight? The hole is too small for my liking. Anybody know?
