The question i now ask another player is when they expect to start popping off. That way if they say turn 7 or 8 is when they could potentially start winning then i know its ok to play one of my decks that can do something similar. It gives players time to actually try and set up a board state.

This is a really nice way to do the rule 0 thing! Deckbuilding something fun and interesting is half the fun of commander - having the chance to get your deck going while also getting to see what other players have crafted is always really cool 😊

This "turn-question" is so incredibly difficult to answer in Commander, though. If I play Krenko I might happen to have both Goblin Lackey and Goblin Recruiter in my opening hand *and* my Lackey might be able to hit an undefended opponent multiple times *and* none of my opponents might have any removal *and* I might have enough lands in hand that I can stack my entire deck *and* my opponents might allow me to run away with the game after dropping Muxus because none of them have board wipes. Or I might not have any of those things or none of my opponents are without blockers or one of them happens to have a removal spell for my Lackey that is on the level of Gut Shot/Shock or stronger (aka the weakest possible removal spells or better). How would you decide to anwer that question if you were that Krenko player ? Do you just add up "turn 3" and "never because my goblins died to a single board wipe" and divide them by 2, leading to you answering "never" ?

My only problem with rule 0 is when people use it as an excuse to argue against any change to the actual rules. My group uses a variant of the colour identity rules to allow for hybrid and off-colour activations (mana outside of your commander's identity can only be spent on generic costs) and it works an absolute treat, keeping most of the purpose behind colour identity without making hybrid/OCA cards bizarrely weird for this one random format, but of course, no point changing the rules to officially allow such things because "you can just rule 0 it".

While it's awesome that your playgroup has modified the rules to work for everyone there, I don't think you can reasonably expect to show up to a game with strangers and them be okay with decks constructed with those rules exceptions in mind. Certainly bring those decks, but if folks say "I'd prefer to play with decks that match the official deckbuilding rules", be ready to pull out something else

@@CardsInHand0 Oh of course, I don't mean otherwise. I mean more with regards to discussion.

youre 100% right, the useless ass RC and CAG use it as a sheild to do literally nothing with the formats rules, making you have to have a huge convo before the game instead of improving the format for everyone

Why exactly is the color identity so strictly guarded in commander? It always seemed dumb to me. Then they print all of these color breaking cards because such and such mono color player want to X effect. Its magic people have been splashing colors for years.
@CardsInHand0

@@josephcourtright8071 I think there's some interesting give and take between playing a commander with fewer colors, so it's easier to cast, and playing a commander with more colors, and thus more options at the cost of more difficult mana fixing. If folks like 100-card singleton but feel constrained by the color identity rules of EDH, Canadian Highlander is worth checking out.

Really loved the video but what I love even more is that you are a female mtg content creator 😍😍😍 I feel a little bit more seen now and that alone makes me love what you do, even if you talked utter nonsense (which you obviously don't!!!)

CEDH decks that win on turn 2 are cancer and should not be encouraged.

cringe. Imagine dictating how other people have fun.

I agree if you're not trying to pay cedh, but it's so much fun when everyone is in on it. Games can be a couple minutes or hours, and it's all about everyone doing their best to win, not socialize.
