Join us in this comprehensive video where we tackle multiple tasks to ensure our potato cellar is ready for the upcoming planting season. We start by repairing the dirt floor, addressing any cracks or uneven surfaces to create an optimal environment for storing our potatoes. Then, we showcase the process of preparing our potato seed cutting equipment, ensuring everything is in working order and efficiently moved into the cellar for easy access. Lastly, we demonstrate how we take on the challenge of fixing broken parts underneath a manure bed, utilizing our skills to troubleshoot and repair any issues. Follow along for valuable tips and insights into optimizing your potato storage space and equipment maintenance.

I wonder if y’all are like is down here in Mississippi rice farming country. We grow rice but rarely eat it unless it’s got gravy on it. 😂😂😂😊

I do like rice with gravy.

Rain just before planting always makes such a mess. Yours is definately up there on the “messy” scale haha. Man do I love my concrete floors when I look at yours 😮

I’m surprised you guys aren’t planting yet. We are in Roberts Idaho and we are almost halfway done with planting barley

We have been planting grain for about a week and a half, but we still have quite a bit left to plant

I can see why you weren't spreading when I went past on the 30th. Your equipment looks new to what we had when I worked on the farm in Pocatello. Our Spudnik (scooper) was Sn 7 and our Milestone seed cutter was Sn 17. We didn't use a drum applicator for the powder, it just had a Gandy box putting it on.
@RockyMountainFarmer
@RockyMountainFarmer Месяц назад
The drum is a little better. Our scooper is pretty old. There is an identical one in the museum.

I need to watch the whole video before I comment. One thing you might try on that long chain is to make or get a hard wood trough, maybe that would take the shake out of it . something they did years ago
@RockyMountainFarmer
@RockyMountainFarmer Месяц назад
We might have to try something like that if it still doesn’t work this year.

When your guys are having trouble dumping their beds with dirt, you might try having them pull Ford back up with speed and then hit the brakes hard and the rest of the dirt will come out really easy fix
@RockyMountainFarmer
@RockyMountainFarmer Месяц назад
That is normally what we do but it’s hard to do that in the seller, especially when we can’t lift the bed all the way up

Do you guys worry about disease? Seed equipment especially we clean and disinfect religiously to make sure there’s no chance of contamination.
@RockyMountainFarmer
@RockyMountainFarmer Месяц назад
It does get cleaned before we run seed through it but we have been doing it this way for 60 years and I’ve never had a problem with disease

Can you just take a link out of that chain to shorten it?
@RockyMountainFarmer
@RockyMountainFarmer Месяц назад
No, it’s not loose enough to take a link out. It’s only loose because it’s long.
@kentkeller5211
@kentkeller5211 Месяц назад
So why didn't you just Re-hook the chains shorter?

For the 10th consecutive month, Earth in March set a new monthly record for global heat - with both air temperatures and the world’s oceans hitting an all-time high for the month, the European Union climate agency Copernicus said.

That just means a longer growing season for me

Good for you, sucks for the rest of us.

@RockyMountainFarmer Месяц назад
I’m not sure why it sucks to have 1° warmer weather. You do realize that the record high is 1 to 2° warmer than normal. It’s not like 20° warmer.

Man don't you guys ever clean your equipment when you finish using it? I see a lot of old sprouted seed from last year on your cutter and your duster is filthy. Not good for having fresh cut seed and keeping it disease free.
@RockyMountainFarmer
@RockyMountainFarmer Месяц назад
We do clean it off somewhat but some things get missed we are usually so busy planting that we forget. Also this is how we have done it for 60 years and have never had a disease problem.
