The terrifying thing? The torpedo in question was *dropped on the dock* before being loaded anyway... You have to wonder how many of Kursk's crew wanted off the boat at that point..

@@ThePandoraGuy The Russians actually *do* have a bunch of slang/alternative words for various types of corruption. The part of this story that is so infuriating, is when the Russians finally let the Norwegian and British forces try and save the men, the Russians said "Oh don't go near this part of the ship" because they were worried about them seeing secrets and maybe finding out the awful state of the ship, when all the British and Norwegians wanted to do was save then men they didn't give a damn about the sub they cared about the men and even when they are allowing compatant rescue the Russians are still screwing it up.

The only good thing out of this whole clownshow was the British, Canadian, Norwegian, American and other Navies upon hearing of the disaster offered to help the moment they heard about it, for men they never met and likely had been their enemies a few years before, they went "to hell with the politics or grandstanding people are in need lets go help" and its one of the things i love so much about sailors is even if it means diving headlong into a storm with a ship just damaged in said storm if they can help they will help even at great rick to their own lives, i heard a good quote about this actually which was "All sailors are family and family look out for each other", just wish Russia believed that too.

If government corruption was an Olympic sport then Russia would have been an all time champion. It's so ingrained in the fabric of society that they don't even perceive it as corruption. There's a saying in Russia that goes "you don't pay taxes, you bribe that tax collector". It's to the point that not taking advantage of your position in ways that would get you kicked the fuck out in any normal country is seen as suspicious. If you're not using your work car to get free fuel for your private one, if you're not taking shit from the office like a printer or a "broken" laptop back home, if you're not embezzling funds to buy yourself a new car, etc. you're the one everyone is weary of bc they're worried you're going to rat them out bc all of them are doing it. Corruption in Russia isn't an error of the system, it's an integral part of it. Other countries have corruption in the government. Russia has government built on corruption. It's an integral part of society to the point most Russian people are shocked the first time they land a job in Germany or UK that people there don't do these things. To someone who lived in Russia and former USSR republics their whole life lack of corruption is an alien concept...

For me it's just annoying on an entirely different level. A ship to a sailor is more than a station it's a home, you go to war in the thing, you sleep in it, you take care of it. If anything happens to it it happens to you. In a lot of ways your protecting it while it protects you, you personify it in a lot of ways. My ship is my home. I couldn't imagine treating my ship like this.

He's a great youtube channel that has an amazing series on the mongols and a legendary two parter on Harald "Hardrada" Sigurdsson, the Last Viking. All of his artwork is not AI generated and is breathtakingly beautiful, and all of it is for sale too. Love that you're reacting to this series as well; he's humble but is a great storyteller. Edit: If you do decide to react to History Dose, Could you react to his "China Meets Africa" video first? It's a personal favorite and is a piece of history no one ever really talks about.

I always have to laugh when someone tries to define "Battlecruiser." On the surface it's pretty easy to understand "somewhere between a cruiser and a battleship" but in practice there's very little agreement on which ships truly deserve the classification. Is the Alaska-class a battlecruiser or a large cruiser? Was Kongo a battlecruiser or a fast battleship? The Deutschland class might be the ship that has most effectively played the role of a battlecruiser, and they're classified as heavy cruisers. And if you've ever heard the term "pocket battleship" it refers to the Deutschland-class heavy cruiser, because that's not confusing. To make matters worse, ships increased in size *significantly* at the beginning of the 20th century through WWII. The South-Carolina class battleship(or dreadnought. *sigh*) at 16,000 tons was basically half the size of the 34,000 ton Alaska-class "large cruiser" a few decades later. People can't even agree on what a battlecruiser was supposed to actually *do.* Is it supposed to be able to hold its own against enemy battleships, as Kongo and Hood were designed to do(sorry Hood, it didn't work out), or be specialized in defeating enemy cruisers, as Alaska was designed to do(but never did)? Should it be a fast and powerful ship capable of operating on its own? Definitely-not-a-battlecruiser Deutschland says hello. And if you were to get "battlecruisers" to fight each other Thunderdome-style, the ships had such different capabilities most of the matchups probably wouldn't even be close.

This is one of the few stories about the russian navy i cant find it funny in the least. My father was a submariner. I visited his ship a few times. Even the more modern ones are still things the claustrophobic would find nightmarish. I cant help but seeth with rage at the russian leadership, both the admiralty and putin, for their criminal behavior motivated by SELFISH POLITICAL EXPEDIENCY, sacrificing the lives of innocent sailors to an horrible death beyond imagination. Yet russia and putin still have groupies.... EVEN IN THE WEST! I hate everything about putin's russia. The other stories i find thrm funny but this one just enrages me.

Last night, the International Monetary Fund put Russia on the 4th place in the world in terms of GDP and the United States on the 6th, but for some reason the Western media and channels are silent about this why?
@OldManReacts
@OldManReacts 19 дней назад
Because it didn't happen. If Russia overtook the US in GDP it would mean they had grown their overall economy eleven times over and/or the US economy had shrunk by 90% while the Russian economy had doubled overnight. Considering Yellowstone hasn't erupted and the San Andreas hasn't produced a 13.2 on the Richter scale while at the same time asteroids haven't hit the entirety of New England and the Rust Belt, while at the same time Russia unveiled double it's economic output in a modern miracle, I'd be checking your source on that one.

The Russian economy's in the toilet, what are you even talking about, Biboran? It's so bad for them right now that China (who is _supposed_ to be their biggest ally), a nation that's also hemorrhaging money at an alarming rate, has put the thumb-screws to the Russians and amped-up their ongoing energy negotiations _way_ into their favor. Oh, and then the Chinese started making moves on Russian land, specifically Siberian land at the border between the two nations. This land has been a point of contention between China and Russia for a very long time, going back to the old Russian Empire, and now that Russia's state funding has fallen flat and their military is... quite sidetracked at the moment, well, China saw an opportunity to reclaim a stretch of land that they view as rightfully theirs. To go even further, the current value of the Russian Ruble is 0.012 that of the United States Dollar. Suffice it to say, "Pretty bad" would be a massive understatement. Even the mere _idea_ that Russia could surpass the US economy at this point is absolutely absurd. Realistically, they're having trouble maintaining numbers that are close to or _beneath_ the levels of *DEVELOPING NATIONS* etc. I'm not going to make fun of you, slander you, or anything of the sort. Not the way I'd like to handle this. I'm just fully aware that your information is false.

Only time I've ever really disagreed with you: "And it's because some incompetent asshole is basically sending them off to fight a stupid pointless war, and the same for the Ukrainians, in fact MORE SO for the Ukrainians" I had a whole wall of text questioning how the hell Ukraine was worse than Russia, when Russia's been murdering Ukrainians since 2014 sending soldiers and PMC's to join and fight for the separatists. Even way back then, Artillery strikes were traced back to battery's inside Russia. And let's not forget the great air defence platform, the BUK, famous for when Wagner troops posing as separatists shot down a civilian airliner killing everyone on board and then promptly proceeded to start looking the crash site, the targeting of UKR civilians by RU missiles/bombs during and ever since the 2022 invasion, the mass graves and rape dungeons found when UKR recaptured Bakhmut, RU Artillery completely flattening towns, city's, and villages; the thousands of young RU men and teens conscripted that aren't even trained or properly equipped, even being told if they want gear then have their family buy and sending it to them, because RU knows they're just there to soak up the bullets while the real team trys to break through somewhere else, or even have the conscripts slaughtered in a suicidal attack just to get a couple drone hits on the strong points opening fire. Using Chernobyl reactor building as an ammo dump, etc, etc, etc. Love your reactions, and this won't change that at all; but I REALLY fail to see how Ukraine is worse than Russia and Putin. Have Zelensky and Ukraine made some mistakes and poor choices? Oh hell yes, but as evil and with such a vile disregard for human life as Russia? Hell no. Everyone's entitled to their opinion though, so I guess this is just one instance where ours differ. If I've somehow misunderstood your remarks, then I apologize; and I'm not trying to be rude or an asshole, so if I come off that way it's unintended. Still a fan and Hope the channel keeps growing, every reactor needs something unique to make them interesting. Whatever it is, you've got it.
