The Sabbath Debate: Are Christians Required to Keep the Sabbath? 

I'm a Sabbath Keeper and I'm neither 7th Day Adventist nor 7th Day Baptist. I'm a Commandment Keeper... PERIOD! Pagan men have no authority to change the Sacred 4th Commandment, the Blessed 7th Day Sabbath.

This is so needed. So few Christians have a robust theology of the Sabbath and are trapped by teaching that weighs down their conscience.

Great video. I thoroughly enjoyed it until the message took a turn around the 30 minute mark. Sabbath worship was never changed to Sunday, sir. The commandment says to “Remember” and then goes on to describe the reason we are to keep it Holy. It clearly lays out that it was from the beginning and is a commemoration of creation and God’s rest day after all of His work. He made it Holy. I can point out a slew of scriptures to substantiate Sabbath worship, but it would go on forever. Also, in Acts 20 when the disciples came together it wasn’t the Sabbath and wasn’t actual worship. It clearly states that they were “breaking bread” and not actually worshiping. Sabbath is/was so important that it’s mentioned all throughout scripture, over and over again. If God deemed it important but then there was supposed to be a change in day then why isn’t there a single verse that clearly explains this change? 🤔 The answer to that question is quite simple. It’s because the change was not ordained by God, in scripture or by any of His ppl. This change came years after Christ and was mandated and made law by Constantine in 321 AD that everyone was to worship on Sunday. Sunday was the day the pagans worshiped their sun-god. They did this so that everyone would worship on the same day. They also did it because they hated the Jews and anything associated with Israel. Either way the commandments are to be kept and honored both in this life and the next. Revelations describes God’s ppl as commandment-keeping ppl who also have the testimony of the Messiah: “Here is the patience f of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” Rev 14:12 Also, in Rev 22:14 it’s clear that those that keep God’s commandments are blessed: “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.” Last but not least, Christ explicitly states in Matt 5:17-20 that he didn’t come to abolish any of the laws of God and that he came to do them and fulfill or carry them out. He continues in telling the ppl that we are not to teach against them and that our righteousness must exceed the righteousness of the Pharisees and Elders; those who taught the law and traditions in those times. Note: The mystery of iniquity/lawlessness (2 Thessalonians 2:7-8) is in full swing and we must be watching and waiting on our Lord and Savior’s return.

Isn’t keeping the sabbath more about obedience instead of worship? Worship is what you do on the sabbath , but keeping it is obedience.

God did not appoint 'one day in seven' for a Sabbath. He appointed THE seventh day. It is not 'a sabbath' it is 'the Sabbath'. Sunday is not called "The Lord's Day' in scripture. The only day God gives that appellation is the seventh day. Exodus 20:10; Deuteronomy5:14 - the seventh day is the sabbath Of The Lord. Ex. 31:15 - the sabbath is holy to the LORD. Matthew 12:8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day. Nowhere in scripture does Christ claim to be Lord of the first day. Who changed the Sabbath after the resurrection? Not God. Jesus says in Matthew 5:18 -"Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.' Not the disciples. Acts chapters 13, 15, 16, 17 and 18 all show them worshipping on Sabbath as usual. The argument that they met on the first day is a spurious one. Acts 2:46 shows they met 'daily' breaking bread. The first day was no different. The Westminster confession of Faith is not the Bible. We ought to obey God rather than man.

❤The Shabbat is Saturday and it is the seventh day of the week, and not Sunday or Friday. Let us keep it Holy that we may partake of the holiness of GOD.

I’ll save y’all time. The answer is yes. YHWH calls it eternal and forever and it’s the only commandment that starts with “Remember “.

I think it is a very important question about what should we do, on the sabbath, the Lords day, or any other day when Christians come together to worship God. I look forward to your answers.

question...is GOD consistent???? does GOD ever change??? would GOD say I BLESS THE 7th DAY AND MAKE IT HOLY.... than MAN changes GODs BLESSED & HOLY DAY to the 1st day of the week... then when JESUS CHRIST COMES the 2nd time and we go to heaven then the 1st day of the week is done away with and we go back to the 7th day being BLESSED AND MADE AND KEPT HOLY???? please explain that.....

Obviously Sabbath is 7th day that comes after Friday, not 1st one Sunday 😊 And never Jesus or His Apostles ever changed it. It was done later in 4th age by Konstantin's religion which he created and named as Catholic which literally means united or universal. But united or universal with who? With pagans of course cuz he was actually pagan as well whole his life, he was Mithraist. And after that many other pagan things came to the church - worshipping to images, statues, Mary mother of Jesus, other guys, skull and bones, etc etc. Selling salvation for money 🤦🤷 That's all are deceptions.

if GOD blessed the 7th day and made it holy and had the israelities keep it holy before the big 10 and if we will be keeping the sabbath in heaven i think it stands to reason that we should keep the sabbath today...true or false....

The answer is ABSOLUTELY YES !!! I pray that the Holy Spirit will impress upon your hearts what God says and not what man says . The Sabbath is a precious gift which if all the world observed every SATURDAY would solve nearly all problems in the world . Climate Change , financial problems and illness for a start .

The best way to present the Sabbath is from the gospel, especially Hebrew 4:1-10 Hebrews 4:1 “Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. 2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. 3 For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: ‘So I swore in My wrath, they shall not enter My rest,’ although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.” Commentary: Verse 1] To whom is the writer of Hebrews writing? Jewish Christians. Verse 2] The gospel was preached to both the Jews of the exodus as well as the Jews in Paul’s day. In the Old Testament the gospel was understood through the sanctuary services. Sadly, many of the Jews of the exodus didn’t receive the gospel by faith. Verse 3] Those who have believed have entered “that rest”. What then is “His rest” - is it not defined as the gospel received by faith? Therefore entering “His rest” is the gospel received by faith. Those who reject the gospel will not enter God’s rest. What does the author (probably Paul) mean by “the works finished from the foundation of the world”? Compare this phrase to Ephesians 1:3-7. Here I’ll quote just verse 4: “Just as He (God the Father) chose us in Him (Christ) before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame (i.e., “in Christ”) before Him (God the Father).” God’s redemption of our fallen humanity “in Christ” was not an afterthought. “All men” were chosen “in Christ” before “the foundation of the world” was laid. This again is the good new - the gospel. 4 “For He (God) has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: ‘And God rested on the seventh day from all His works’” Commentary: Verse 4] That certain place is found in Genesis 2:2. Let's read it: "By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work." Why did God rest - was He tired? Isaiah 41:28 gives us some insight into this, “Do you not Know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired (NASB).” Then why did God rest? Because He was done! Nothing more could be added to His perfect and finished work. God's rest would have been eternal except for the fall of mankind into sin. Therefore God had to come out of His rest in order to redeem our humanity from under the curse of the law. How does is this connected to the Sabbath? We will find out in verses 9 and 10. 5 “And again in this place: ‘They shall not enter My rest.’” Commentary: Verse 5] Here Paul is re-emphasizing what he has already stated. Those who reject the gospel will not enter God’s rest. 6 “Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience,” Commentary: Verse 6] Not all the Jews of Paul’s day had entered God’s rest - the gospel. Those in the exodus who rejected the gospel did not enter God’s rest out of disobedience. We can see this in Hebrews 3:18,19 “And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? We see then that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.” 7 “again He designates a certain day, saying in David, ‘Today,’ after such a long time, as it has been said: ‘Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.’” Commentary: Verse 7] Paul here is pleading with his fellow Jews not to harden their hearts and to accept Christ. 8 “For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day.” Commentary: Verse 8] The “another day” here referred to is that which is mentioned before by the phrase “today”. Joshua did not give the Israelites rest. Canaan was only a type of rest; it was symbolic only. It is “today” that both Jew and Gentile should receive Christ. The longer you wait the more hardened your heart becomes. 9 “So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.” Commentary: Verse 9] This is the second time Paul has mentioned the Sabbath in chapter four. First, he did it in verse four and now he has mentioned it yet again in this verse. What’s the significance? First, we need to understand what Paul meant by the phrase “a Sabbath rest”? Looking here biblehub.com/greek/4520.htm I find the following: “Sabbatismos: “a keeping of the Sabbath, a Sabbath rest.” So literally the text reads “there remain a keeping of the Sabbath for the people of God.” But wait, weren’t the Jews in Paul’s days already keeping the Sabbath according to the law? Yes, they kept the right day, but they were not resting in the righteousness of Christ. They were resting in their own righteousness. 10 “For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.” Commentary: Verse 10] Please note that Paul is now addressing believers in general - both Jew and Gentile. “Whoever” (Jew or Gentile) has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from His”. We learned in verses 2 and 3 that the phrase “His rest” is defined as the gospel received by faith. To accept the gospel is to enter God’s rest. Therefore, the one who receives the gospel through faith also rests as God rested . From what did God rest? Not His perfect and complete, sinless creation, but rather His perfect and complete redemption. To be precise God the Father rested the 7th-day sabbath from His perfect and complete work of redemption “in Christ Jesus”! What is the believer to do with this truth? He is to rest as God rested. Therefore, anyone (Jew or Gentile) who accepts the gospel (“His rest”) also rests the 7th-day sabbath as God rested on it almost 2,000 years ago! Thus, the sabbath is a sign - a seal of the righteousness that the believer already had by faith. The sabbath, properly understood, is the seal of justification by faith.

There is some hot rhetoric on this topic! We would all be well advised read Acts 15, especially verses 5, 7 through 11, and 28 through 31. I don't know how anyone can argue against that.

i want to emphasize that WE WILL be keeping the sabbath IN HEAVEN .. what about ISAIAH 66:23 if we will be doing something in heaven it stands to reason that GOD has wanted us to be doing it already....before the 2nd comin

It matters when you worship and what constitutes the Sabbath day (the 7th day that was, blessed, sanctified, and hallowed; the Lord's Day). Genesis 2, Exodus 20. We don't get to pick and choose our Sabbath. There's people that have never learned the truth about the Sabbath and others that knowingly break it. God is calling his true and faithful people out of Babylon because there's confusion about sin. The Sabbath and the other 9 commandments are part of the covenant God made with man. Changing the day would make God a liar. Keeping the Sabbath on any other day is sin. Malachi 3:6 6 For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. Daniel 7:25 25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. God never changed the day of worship(Sabbath) as part of the covenant. The Sabbath was never being changed. Where God's law is written. From stone to the mind (heart). There's no scriptural authority for the change of Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday or the Sabbath being done away with.

God did not change Sabbath to Sunday

Short answer is no, Christian’s do not need to keep the sabbath just like they don’t need to destroy Jericho or build an ark

Christ Himself is our sabath. We rest in Him. The day was a shadow of the real things in Christ.

When did the church “change” the Sabbath on Sunday? The history of Sunday so far as I’ve read it was that Sunday became a traditional day for Christians to meet way before there was and centralized church edicts. Read the early church fathers and it is obvious. Where in the NT did any author stress Sabbath keeping? Nowhere. Quite the opposite. One man thinks of one day about the other, the other man thinks of every day the same… Quit judging one another. That pretty much sums it up.

Keeping the sabbath comes with a lot of blessings for honouring Gods commands not keeping it is a big sin that’s why ppl won’t get bless

It is Soooooo very clear Friday when the sun goes down to Saturday when the sun goes down. Now read Exodus 31:12-18. Now in The New Testament in Hebrews Chapter 4, ALL OF IT. And at no point in Scripture does GOD tells us that such an important commandment has been nullified. And yet pride and cognitive dissonance has blinded the people. I'm a Baptist Church going Pastor who worships on Sunday. But keep The Sabbath as well. When the coming GREAT AWAKENING comes, this again will be made clear. As GOD'S SPIRIT decends upon HIS people.

Why did you fail to bring up and discuss the new so called Sabbath worshippers who practice the Sabbath by saying we rest in Jesus so we don't need to keep the Sabbath Day becoz we rest in him????

Revelation talks about God's commandments and Jesus also talked about keeping the commandments but what people don't understand is that it is the two commandments but not Mosaic commandments. Jesus was talking to those who recognized and obeyed Him and they knew He was talking about the commandments of LOVE. Jesus knew that He will abolish the law and it's commandments as stated in Ephesians 2 and even the disciples knew this. But the founder of Seventh Day Adventist religion did not know this.

He misinterpreted the New Testament when he says that THEY met on the First day of the week … recheck why they met on that Sunday carefully . Why did the apostle Paul take up collections on the first day of the week ? Because he did NOT take up collections on the Holy Day of the Week ( the sabbath ) , the Jewish apostles kept the sabbath , and on the first day they resumed their work . It was Paul’s custom to uphold the sabbath , as he was teaching the gentiles EVERY Sabbath . . Jesus kept the sabbath . It’s his Way . So did the Jewish Apostles, and they did teach the gentiles The Same Way …. Before Paul was executed there were already MEN corrupting their Theology . . Paul and the other Jewish apostles did in fact uphold gods law . . It was the Gentiles that corrupted gods law ( Calling themselves Christian’s ) . . Gods law / Christ law till this very hour is Still being Corrupted by the Devil

Actually, the Sabbath is one the easiest topic of scriptures and God made it easy so that there can be no confusion, UNLESS you are a poor student and you did NOT humble yourself to diligently prayerfully seek God's Spirit to give you discernment, which is a major problem on planet earth, especially in Christianity with it's various battles of conflict of doctrines, when there should be none - but not surprising because the enemies of God have and are and will continue to work hard to confuse humanity on the Law and the Testimony of God. First of all people need to understand that God is the God of all people, He's the Only Creator - He's the Only Saviour who Has bridged heaven and earth - which means that John 3:16 applies to everyone born under the sun - One thing also that people need to understand is why God chose the Hebrew, Israelites, Jewish people before He came in the flesh - God did not love them more that those who rejected Him, but because God chose them to be the light of the world and to preach the Christ that was to come (and now has come and is coming soon according to prophecy)... The Jews in the time of the prophet Daniel, had been given 490 years to get ready prepare to receive Messiah when He comes, and when He came, the rejected Him as a Nation, but after Christ left, they had 3 1/2 years of more grace as a nations to accept Him, but they did not, and when probation ended they were no longer the chosen vehicle in which God would reveal to the world the good news and the truth about the Law and the Testimony. The first Jews that accepted the truth continued to be the bride, but the rest who reject Him and His Truth left the church, which was the full nation of Israel. Then the gospel went to the gentile, but sadly, the enemy of God brought not only persecution, but deception and compromise which infiltrated the church (Mary worship, baby baptism, sabbath to sunday compromise, the identity of God, and of Jesus, the coming of Jesus, the prophecy of the Antichrist etc... making sure that people were deceived and distracted so that they did not diligently study to know truth and if they did, went according to their feelings and someone else opinion rather than "it is written" .... Time is indeed running out and most WILL BE LOST....

Those were days of peril for the church of Christ. The faithful standard-bearers were few indeed. Though the truth was not left without witnesses, yet at times it seemed that error and superstition would wholly prevail, and true religion would be banished from the earth. Image worship became more general. Candles were burned before images, and prayers were offered to them. The most absurd and superstitious customs prevailed. The minds of men were so completely controlled by superstition that reason itself seemed to have lost her sway. While priests and bishops were themselves pleasure-loving, sensual, and corrupt, it could only be expected that the people who looked to them for guidance would be sunken in ignorance and vice. . I believe we should keep the Sabbath on the Seventh day of the week. But each should read the actual facts and decide on their own. Many will go to heaven who never kept the Seventh day Sabbath. But I find that it is the time God set aside and that leads me to keep the Seventh day Sabbath. So here is why I keep the Seventh day Sabbath.
