fr i remember seeing that and thinking to myself now why tf should i pay for the prize pool of your tournament when i got bills and shit to pay. whats the point in even playing the game at this point its infested with cheaters they are cheap and genuienly dont know how to balance a game they made. they were talking about how its a good thing that the meta is muaga but how he can be countered and its like muaga isnt a fun tank it take away 80 percent of the mind game and fun of the game in lower comps and quick play if i have to go orisa to counter muaga then they switch hog to counter me then i go muaga to counter them and its just a circle its honestly not a fun game anymore.

Imagine, the two teams that get to the finals both just see who can throw the hardest to get the better rewards

Digital cosmetics definitely aren't free to make, but it's still a sad excuse of a price nonetheless.

And with sports merch they have to pay for each individual item of merch. For digital cosmetics they just pay to make it once and then have an infinite supply for free.

@@Minisynapse you're correct, creating a new skin is propably 20-80 hours of work (good Legendary). ~260 if multiple people are involved. Much less if we're talking voicelines, sprays and icons. Depending on the cosmetic you need to sell 100-1000 copies to break even. This is basically a money printing mashine. Giving those in-game things doesn't cost Blizz anything. 1st Place Team should get access to all cosmetics releasing for the next 4 Years (including all cosmetics ever made) and I would still say that sucks as a 1st place price.

What a dumb post. Sports leagues make their money based on the games being played and watched. The sport happening and the tournaments happening is where the money comes from. Theres no profit in an overwatch tournament. The players in such a tournament arent the stars that bring in the money. OW's income has nothing to do with having tournaments. It isnt even related to who plays overwatch at all. How could you assume that the company needs to pay its amateur uncontracted players.

And remember, this is literally the largest company on the face of the earth. Even a $50k prize pool would be the equivalent of a rounding error on their ledgers.

Depends on how many prisms you intend on spending. If you only need 80 prisms, then sure that'll get you the 80 + more, but if you need more, then it'll be cheaper to win the 80 and then spend 10 dollars for the BP to get 80 more

We’ve already voted with our wallets a long time ago for the game industry to have these practices become common place. While the more informed person who plays video games won’t fall for this, the every day 9 to 5 guy coming home to play COD or Overwatch for easy dopamine doesn’t notice or care for these things and will buy said cosmetics as they are uninformed at how horrible the practices are. 90% of game industries and companies don’t care for the common person either. They care for the whales who have a sunk cost fallacy with this game and can’t help but spend more money on skins and bundles as they fear they’re too deep into the game. Or for the quick time whales who show up, grow an obsession with the game for a month or two, spend money on stuff as this time the game will definitely be their new hit favorite game, and move on having spent $200+. I completely agree with you of the correct stance that we should take a stand against these practices however the ship has far sailed and I only really play and enjoy games from companies that actually care for their products and aren’t asking for a second full time job and a chunk of your salary for the next bundle. Hopefully one day someone with enough money to sue these companies and not go bankrupt from legal battles can do something about the corruption and greed in the industry. TLDR: Companies won’t care what we do to rise up, they only care for investors and Rich players who spent tons of money already or can spend the money.

if you need more than 80 prisms for mythics it'll be cheaper to get the 80 from 1st place and then 80 more from the BP for 10 usd

But it’s not growing naturally. It’s being shared by overwatch esports channel, they’re going to make money streaming it and have potential advertisement for their game, and they’re giving the players garbage in return. When people say let esports grow naturally they mean devs should focus more on making the game enjoyable rather than microbuffing and nerfing everything at the top so it’s more balanced for the top 1% and over time if people love the game they’ll be willing to watch and support tournaments, which leads to advertising and an actual income for the org. It doesn’t mean have the company make a bad tournament that has worthless rewards even though they’re a billion dollar company

The thing is FACEIT is owned by the exact same people as the EWC Just shows how much smaller games like OW are just being used there as a prop to make them look more legitimate. "Life Changing Money" to a select few when it could have been "Very Significant Money" to many more.
