Even the mixing is very Goldsmith... I do have to say I'm impressed by this! You almost can sense him Conducting...it's performed with the heart of the piece in mind...which is unusual for re-recordings...but that's wonderful!
I bought the soundtrack and I still can't get enough of this video. This piece is captured perfectly (as most of the video to orchestral work is for Prometheus Records) and simply a Jerry Goldsmith best I never knew existed. I really wish that Prometheus would release these concert pieces on DVD/Bluray because the filmmakers know what they're doing and clearly music lovers. I've been so absolutely disappointed with Varese Sarabande's video efforts - Far too much emphasis on the conductor and not the orchestra (which is not the case here), which leads me to believe (as an editor of orchestrated movements) that the film crew for Varese either doesn't know what to focus on and when, and/or, the editor doesn't (or doesn't have the shots he needs during those pivotal moments - progressions/evolutions). Thank you Tadlow Music and thank you Prometheus!
I second this. I have seen some performances of Jerry's score famous for unusual instrumentation... and then you hear those sounds, and they don't show you how they were made!
Its a lovely piece of music showing off Goldsmiths true talent at creating a theme and running with it. This piece of music is sublime and the album has yet more great music in it too...well done to all the team at tadlow...
Just another example of the brilliance of Jerry Goldsmith Another wonderful job Nic Raine and City of Prague Philharmonic. Any chance of a complete re-recording of Wind and the Lion?
Goldsmith was a genius. Simplicity and originality. This performance and recording is excellent, I'm sure JG would be so proud. Next project record all the Rambo scores.. the recording quality is bad.
