I was born in 2001 and had all 3 Santa clause movies on dvd at some point when I was old enough to sorta understand what movies were. Rewatched them all with my sister yesterday and today and besides the horrible effects and the occasional illogical things, we loved the feeling of nostalgia. Question: What happened to the previous Mrs Clause? When Scott killed the first Santa did the elves kick her out and she took 8 years to starve to death in the North Pole?

I always figured the reason it took so long for the Mrs. Clause to kick in was because the Elves or Powers That Be that enforce these clauses were waiting for the new Santa to actually enjoy being Santa. If he still didn't want to be Santa anymore he could just stay single and let the 'De-Santafication' process do its thing and go back to his normal life. Now that he enjoys being Santa and doesn't want to give it up the Powers/Elves can use it as an incentive to find a Missus.

Previous Santa’s had never survived 8 years... that’s my headcanon for why everyone got blindsided by the Mrs Clause. The Santa mortality rate is pretty high.

I don't know why, but I always thought Charlie spray painting a slash through a Christmas was him being upset his dad was never around, so it was him rebelling, not that the principle didn't openly celebrated christmas.

The first one is classic. I saw it in theaters when I was 7 and feel like there will always be a special nostalgia for that movie since it came out at an age when I still believed in Santa. Many forget that this sequel did not come out until eight years later in 2002. By then, I was in high school and Santa Claus movies weren't really on the radar. Was watching the original with my wife a few years ago and she asked me if I had ever seen the second one. Since I told her that I hadn't, she put it on afterwards and it was a really fun sequel. It didn't carry over some of the deeper elements of the first movie (divorce/separation/etc.), but it didn't need to and was an enjoyable viewing experience. The evil robot Santa is hilarious and offers a true antagonist which was missing from the first film. The main subplot of Santa needing to find a wife was a decent arch as well that offers some good scenes. Molly Shannon is great and I also really love the scene at the school faculty Christmas party where Scott gives them all gifts which are primarily cool retro toys from the 60s/70s. I have no childhood nostalgia attached to this one, but would recommend it to anyone who likes the first movie.
