There's been a lot of discussion about if this should be a black run so I have uploaded a video to discuss ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LSwz46cG3S4.html
Looks like he is measuring wind speed which is why the reading is so high while he is walking/the arrow is pointing in the opposite direction he's traveling/the direction is off by a few degrees generally/the speed fluctuates at a high rate. Granted the title says his "speed" and he has a sponsored link to a GPS product so clear intent to mislead or lie. If he were really tracked from GPS the "ground speed" would represent significantly slower as you're traveling along both the X and Y plane of dimension Y increasing with incline and GPS would only represent change in X.
Me and some of my family go every year. We board the Saranne maybe 3 times in the week that we go and im devastated that this January we wont be doing it again. This video bought back all the good memories and adrenaline rush from dropping down that first cut. Hopefully 2022 we can get back there!
Love the video - I was there a few days ago. Sadly you seem to miss the start of Sarenne - right turn at about 1:05 (several skiiers standing looking down the steep bit). You did Cassini and then joined Sarenne at around the 29 marker. I did the same - twice! It's hard to find the entrance. The whole valley is lovely though. I agree with most commentators - it isn't really a black, it just has a couple of tricky bits - I think its creative resort marketing. They also say it's 16km when it's more like 10 or 11km.
I went down this run after watching this video. On the day I it was sunny but had snowed for 2 days straight. The whole run down was about 6ft deep snow and took me 30 minutes. Was so hard due to the moguls that had formed and the extremely narrow paths. I didn't have powder skis at all so nearly kept sinking.
He slowed down significantly for the kiddo to 30. And he did not endanger any other skiers. Though, if other skiers take the hole slope, from far left to far right, that's not how you ski.
Thanks for sharing. For all the Americans commenting, it's marked as a black because there's a fast narrow section at the top with a steep drop off to one side and there are usually 2-3 sections that get very mogully. The reality is that most of the run is a red/blue with a long section of green at the bottom through the valley. But they have to mark the whole run as black because there's no other way around the tricky bits. On this day, however, it was nice and flat and fast.
How is everyone getting so salty about if it’s a black run or the speed he’s going lmao. it’s a beautiful run which is memorable for anyone that’s ski’d down it and I’m glad this vid is up so I can get some nostalgia, people need to relax
Damn Skilled... that’s a great piste run, but no way that could be classified a “Black” piste! Frankly, I can’t see where the grade gets above 55% anywhere on this piste. You did a great job skiing and had some fun while doing it 😉
Brenden Theriau trust me... don’t believe everything you read on google. Get your protractor out and measure 78 on a bit of paper.. very close to being vertical
@Flavio C Thanks for the comment, I have currently have 2013/2014 Rossignol Ti skis, Tecnica mach1 lv 120 boots. About 5 ft 9 (5ft 10 on a good day :D ) and I weigh shit loads over Christmas but normally around 12 stone.
In my skiing days, I used to like the run down from the Grand Motte to La Daille (between Val d'Isere and Tignes). Not continuous like the run in the video, in fact slightly difficult to navigate in a couple of places, but very rewarding.
I think you guys have missed the point - AW looks like he's having fun. Having skied all over the world and now just looking at mountains after two rounds of spinal surgery I'd be happy with 10kmh!! Thanks Alex
Your words hit me hard dear Ted. I am currently living with CFS, and I miss not only skiing, but doing the very basic movement. Pple must reflect and learn to appreciate more and more
No, the Alpe d'Huez climb is from bourg d'oisan to the ski resort at 1850m and the Sarenne is from the glacier at >3300m to the gorge de la sarenne at 1500m, below l'Alpe but not on thee road. If you want to climb it you'd better take good mountain shoes.
You have exactly the same ski-style i have, speed , turning everything and this is my most favorite slope of all times!!, it has changed a lot tho since all these years🥰🥰🥰
I did 119,9 in Les 2 alpes, it looks slow but very ez to do, make sure there's nobody and enough place to slow at the end and go strait. 100kmh is very ez to do actually, more than you could thought.
Like every one says, the difficulty of this slope is green or blue at best. But a long run and you have good legs doing it in one shot at decent speed.
I’ve personally done it’s a black cause it’s bloody long I bombed the whole thing took like 30-45 mins and there is no way off the slope so if ur a bad skier u would hate it
This slope is actually pretty good fun, but you often get a lot of inexperienced skiers who just want to be able to say they did the longest slope in the world, but end up using the whole slope doing long snake turns in everybody’s way. Here, he was lucky to not get that many. It is still definitely worth doing if you ever happen to be at l’Alpe d’Huez.
Everyone's free to use the slope. People in front using the whole of the piste are "not in the way" they are enjoying it the same as anyone else and have just as much rights as you... Remember, you are always responsible to be in full control and if you hit anyone ahead of you, regardless of whether or not they do something unexpected, it is always your fault!
Steep sections and ice aren't the only things that make up a black run. The lengths of a route also contributes to their grades. Provided you don't take sandwich snacks every 50 metres and you ski the whole piste in one run it would actually be very tiring. Hence why it is graded as black.
Bonjour, Je souhaite savoir, quel est le logiciel que vous avez installé pour qu'on puisse voir à l'écran la direction et la vitesse affichée je vous remercie c'est pour mes vidéos.
Well, to each his own, but crowded narrow trails are my least favorite place to ski fast. All it takes is for one yahoo below you to do something unpredictable for it to turn into disaster.
Guess you don't know about ALL skiers are suppose to ski in control. Guess your another snowflake where that rule doesn't apply to you. Just other skiers.
Uphill skier/rider always has the responsibility. You crash into a unpredictable kid downhill from you, you can pay ALL of the kid's medical bills. Doesn't matter if the kid changed directions at the last second. You're the one that is going to pay no matter what. If you had left enough of a buffer around the kid, you wouldn't have collided. That's why uphill skier is always at-fault.
Is it just me? Is it the angle of the camera? I just didn't see "black diamond" anywhere on this run. I live in Utah. Here, a (single) black diamond run has a very steep slope, with tons moguls to "loop" your way down. Our (double) black diamond runs are that, plus various amounts of trees blocking your way.
Beautiful slope. Unfortunately not much snow and it doesn't seem to be really difficult, but the layout is really nice seems quite enjoyable. Maybe I should go there next year if it's not still closed due to Corona.
Great slope but I never understood why it's marked black. Some parts are (dark) red but most of it is pretty easy. It's a long run with hardly any escapes to quit, maybe that why it's marked black?
Well that was tedious. More fun skiing the Lake Louise Downhill after the Norams are over. 75 to 80 mph on 173 Nordica Spitfire Pro’s. Skiing that speed with a traditional Latin Mass Priest dressed in a black cassock with a Rosary flapping behind him is a singular experience.
Where I Sky this is a blue one, too wide and not extremely steep, maybe It could be red... I Sky in Cerler, Pyrinees. Nevertheless great video and one of the prettiest places to Sky, lookint forward to go there
went to ski and break my spine and right knee last month. and my mouth was hit badly by a helmet that almost cut my lips off. have to cancel all my ski plans and lie on bed to see if my back heals as expected so that i can ski next year. I was skiing at some 40kph at that moment and luckily my spinal nerve was not injured or I will have to spend rhe rest my life on a wheel chair, if that didnt kill me immediately.
