The 2 poor girls who were locked up because they had learning difficulties. Well what do people expect? Superior DNA and all the rest of the rubbish. Of course they had to be locked up. That's all I want to say on the subject.

She was a horrible woman who had Charles wrapped around her finger. A few of her kids she tried to pass off on him. I felt sorry for Charles's poor wife who had to put up with that witch. She even slept with the King's own son as well. In the end Charles woke up, especially after he met Nell, and she had to go.

Thanks Jon for telling this very interesting tale as well as the amazing work put into this video. Barbara was some woman, seemed to have developed a bit of a swelled head with her fame. She had some cheek to force her into the new Queens household like that with no regard for the feelings of Queen Catherine. Shocking still for us in the modern day to hear Barbara was the one behind the destruction of Henry VIII's magical Nonsuch Palace, depriving us of viewing it's wonderment today.

Of course her passing touched people all the world over in different ways, truly the end of an era but I imagine it was somewhat different, more tangible for Brits like yourself, her beloved subjects

Difficult to say really, the firm has always been around and it's pretty much like changing the guard. Monarchy can be good for the country it's probably the only one in the world that's managed to keep going and with success. Yes, it's always sad when someone passes, but as you say the family is a worldwide phenomena. I think it will continue, how? I'm not sure it will have to change and develop with the times.

It is interesting to note that Barbara Palmer had a contemporary counterpart at the court of Charles II cousin, Louis XIV, of France. Madame de Montespan. Like Countless Castlemain, the Marquees de Montespan is remembered as a grasping and vulgar woman. Perhaps it was the zeitgeist of the time (combined with inherent human greed)?

Thank you for sharing that! It’s amazing to have such a historical figure in your family tree. While the Palmers may not have current royal ties, Barbara Palmer’s connection to King Charles II keeps the link to royalty alive in history.

Hardly! Bring for sale to the highest bidder? Getting ahead on your back?! Charles had an amazing strong, long suffering wife, Catherine, whom Barbara treated like dirt, and subjected to humiliation. I fail to see how one can consider that worthy of applause.

Oliver Cromwell was trying to help ordinary people from the rich and immoral royals but the people were fickle and only wanted their parties back. Thus we had an amoral royal lot back again.
