Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz lived a fairytale-like life. No one expected much from her, not even herself, until destiny whisked her off to become the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland. This is where the fairytale ends and real life begins, however. Marked by a series of unending tragedies, Charlotte’s life as the Queen was anything but a tale of “happily ever after.”

I don't envy the queen. Putting fifteen children on the planet is bad enough but the constant machinations and jockeying for position as well as the betrayals of her own offspring must have been degrading at best. Throw in the bouts of madness by a husband she loved and her life was a nightmare. She probably yearned for her simplistic life as a young girl. I know l would.

It is possible that King George III suffered from porphyria, a liver disease that creates porohyrin, a pigment that overwhelms the blood and causes mental degradation. It also makes the urine turn purple, which the king was said to have on occasion. However, his symptoms can not all be attributed to porphyria. It is thought that he also had bipolar disorder. Something like that can indeed cause much of George's erratic behaviour and incessant rants with confusion (something that can absolutely be a symptom of a manic episode). However, since his body will likely never be exhumed, there is little chance we will ever know for certain.

Your narration was fist class;the actress cast as Charlotte was beautiful & played her well, but why was a woman of colour chosen/cast in the first place? It was highly distracting & as the excellent illustrations you used, both historical & contemporary for this contentious csting. Was it supposed to bring in a new audience? I watched much of it with my Somali sister, whom my parents adopted age 12 & I adore here,as well as extremely proud of her. Her fury attokenism, I feel is well founded. If any number- in fact if any black historical figures - was cast with a white actor all hell would break loose!? This PC casting is only one sided, the actresses prowess,to a point brought an historical figure to life & costumes, make up,cinematography % high production values were first class, but, again the casting was distracting, my sister, who escaped a forced marriage aged 10/ 11 to a man of around 65 to generate dowry money & property for her brother. By ,breaking both her legs trying to escape incarceration, she was in hospital rather jail,I would have been about one & my mother pregnant with my sister. After my mother's visit to her in hospital.Things changed the dynamics of our family for the better. She had a fantastic brain & my father - an Arabic scholar, with a huge range of African dialects, said from day one that education was imperative. She is still one of the most intelligent & beautiful women I've had the honour to meet; she now has retired in Belgium, having worked as a translator for the UN having been head hunted during her full scholarship to Cambridge & is still brought in for tricky negotiations. Her reaction to this production was dislike &disbelief, feeling the casting brought nothing to the production. As we had a meal afterwards, she mused at the backlash & hysteria - if a well known black historical figure ,whose life was well documented, both words & multiple portrats was cast with a white actor as the historical figure, the outcry would have been immense. We speak at least once if not twice every week & watch various shows via Skype or through Instagram. The rescent casting of Anne Boleyn - again by a highly proficient black actor - was totally incongruous & unnecessary. We both agree that representation is awesome for the younger generation but,not in an historical drama. Facts are important in history - how else can we make the future better, but,by learning from past mistakes - in fiction this works very well,Sir Patrick Stewart's Othello,is an excellent example ; instead of wearing offensive 'black face',he alone was white while the rest of the cast was black. The recent adaptation of Percy Jackson also works beautifully - though the books describe Anabeth as white with beautiful blond hair - we were given a wonderful new black actor, who totally owned the part. Thanks for your time & effort & very best wishes to you&yours.

The Queen was of mixed race. It's a myth that her moorish ancestry was over 300 years. Every portrait of her shows her mixed background be could be grandparents and or even a parent. Not much of her family is known, and even with this show, more modern telling, speaks of home as a minor duchy, with very little wealth, nothing of her parents, grandparents, and / or close family are spoken off.

Queen Charlotte’s physician (aka doctor) and people in the royal social circle at the time DESCRIBED her physically as being black in completion and her features as being African. Also, King George, her husband, was the king at the time that the 13 colonies of America fought Britain for their freedom (aka The Revolutionary War), and he used pictures of Queen Charlotte (drawn, painted) in propaganda in the US to try to get slaves from America on Britain’s side to fight against America. Basically, King George used her blackness to try to get US slaves onto Britain’s side. We know this because it’s all recorded from that time. The problem is racist white people don’t want to believe it though we have all that recorded history/facts that she was indeed black. Most likely Queen Charlotte was Mariah Carey or Meghan Markle’s skin tone.

Despite not a single one of her children or descendants having a single feature or trait of this false ancestry. This just tells you that they can change any fact, change any person's history and the general public are now ignorant enough to accept it. Welcome to Orwell's 1984.
