Time to get spooky with NES Horror Games! The NES was released in 1985 and with it came a huge amount of games over the next 10 years. One of the most popular genres of video games is horror, and the NES actually had a few decent scary games. Now, because early horror games aren’t what they are today, I’m taking some liberty into this list and including games that feature spooky plots, enemies, and settings, not just classic NES horror games.
And while I could include the Castlevania games in this list, I will not be because that’s another list for another day.

Nice list! Ive never played Frankenstein so now thats on the list for this halloween season. Shadowgate is one of my all time favs.. every version is great even GBC! The soundtrack is one I listen to on long road trips🚗

I tried Friday the 13th a few years ago, and I couldn't figure it out. Your explanation makes it clear that I was NOT gonna figure it out just by wandering around, lol We talked about Uninvited before, but I only played it a little recently with my kids on Steam. Those are the only two of these I've actually played. Monster Party looks awesome! I'll have to try this one! I haven't played Phantom Fighter, but I did see the movie. The movie wasn't great, but was interesting and unique. Ghoul School reminds me a bit of A Boy and His Blob, from a sprite-art perspective. I wonder if there was some developer overlap there. Great list! Very informative and cool!

Friday the 13th could be a very confusing experience if you don't know exactly what to do, so I can see you getting lost in it haha. It'd be fun to revisit knowing how to play it! I love that the NES had graphic adventure novels on it, what a cool concept. Monster Party does look very fun! I can't believe you've seen Phantom Fighter!!! That is so random, I wonder if the game is just as average. I can totally see the artistic styles between ABAHB and Ghoul School. Nice eye, Cynic you have such a great extensive knowledge of games. All of these actually look pretty fun except for the graphical adventures, those don't appeal to me. I like how in the Friday the 13th game you don't even need to move your feet to evade Jason you just sway from side to side 🤣 great video!

Horror games were a little rough around the edges back then. But if you make fun of the graphical adventures then you are making fun of games like Monkey Island which I know you love!

I still think the monsters in Dr. Chaos look incredible for NES standards. Monster Party is a lot of fun; I've often enjoyed it. A Nightmare on Elm Street is one that's...interesting to try and play 4-players. Samantha Pom-Pom; good thing she got into cheerleading versus FFA. ha ha ha

Really interested to see this list! lol I wasn't into horror until I was about 11 or 12 so I missed out on horror NES games @1:56 okay I love the dancing goopy skeleton looking dudes lol I would definitely like 'Monster Party'! @6:22 lol you say it like maybe it happens too much 😂 @9:31 okay wait... I feel like I've played this one?!? Ghoul School looks pretty cool too! @12:55 LOL I can't get over her name 🤣 woah 129 room levels? I'd probably want to try Monster Party, Zombie Nation and Ghoul School. Really cool video TC! It's fun to look back on older games and see where it all started!

That skeleton dances better than I do! Haha, it's hard to keep that torch burning... If you've played Zombie Nation I'd be really impressed and you'd get some serious cred with me! You mean to tell me you didn't go to a school named Samantha PomPom? Lol Those are some excellent choices for horror titles. I love horror games but they sure do scare the crap out of me now, at least the current ones do. These ones are baby horror games haha. Thanks for watching pal! : )

Hmm most of this game is based on the horror films like Friday 13th, and many others, not horror like Alone in the Dark or Resident Evil, but they have a creepy atmosphere and story, but in 90's it was sure the beginning of the true horror genre

Nice list! My cousin and I used to rent both Friday the 13th and A nightmare on Elm Street on the regular as he was a fan of the movies. At least the games were not as scary lol! Great video and keep up the good work!
