A somewhat similar but a little different tip that a counselor gave to me that I like using: When your brain catastrophizes and decides that the worst case scenario to something is extreme, say messaging this professor about having to turn something in late's worst case scenario is the professor immediately kicks you out of class, you lose your scholarship and have to leave uni, a way to help break that is to also think of the absolute best case scenario. An example in that same scenario would be like, the professor gives you a trophy of being a good communicator made of solid gold that pays the rest of your tuition. It helps me realize that the worst case scenario my brain is making is just as ridiculous as the dramatic best case scenario i've made up, and makes the whole process less intimidating
