It is 7:30 PM here at my house. I was listening to your discussion about aging till you got to the part about the need for exorcise. I stopped the You Tube video and got off the comfortable office chair and went for a 2 mile walk. I dont particularly enjoy walking. I do enjoy being ABLE to walk. I'm 91 and am interested in being able to walk and to think properly. Your talks on You Tube are a blessing to me, thanks.
I don’t typically comment, but wanted to confirm that I appreciate Matt’s role (cohost) in this podcast. He tends to ask the very questions I have as a listener.
I work with many elderly people in their 80s and 90s, and most of them are not overweight, can still walk short distances and many use their smart phones to stream into their hearing aids or use the app to control the hearing aid volume and programs. They are inspiring.
I know I say it almost every week, but thank you again for doing this podcast. I am aware it takes your time and effort and no doubt you have lots of other things you could be doing. This is just an incredible resource!
@@johnf4680 I will have to respectfully disagree. Any scientist that wants to explore the edge of science is going to generate controversy. but the proof is in the pudding, as they say. I have followed some of his protocols around NMN and resveratrol and am getting some pretty great results
Great podcast! As a 68 years old my focus in healthy aging! Thus, I completely agree with Dr Sinclair said that we need to take care of our brain not only for us but for our family as well.
Dr. Sinclairs' videos are an inspiration. I was exercising, fasting, eating right, and taking supplements until the spring of 2020. Time to get focused on longevity once again.
Folic acid is not B-12. It's the synthetic form of folate, which is B-9. Many people are unable to properly utilize folic acid and need to take folate - but some people also need that folate to be pre-methylated. And others can react poorly to methylated folate (I experienced this myself a few months ago and the effect was staggering). It's a bit complex but worth looking into before you supplement (or if you start and don't take to it well) so you know which form you need!
David Sinclair was talking about homocysteine when referring to folate both vitamin B12 and Foley acid both lower homocysteine he probably just got them confused. Another thing that lowers homocysteine's nac . My father had extreme high homocysteine I got it down to six with 5 g to 6 g of nac . People with the MThFr gene need to take large amounts of folate I have that gene. Too much folate can raise the heart rate and some people though
What a great episode! Thank you both! I have to agree with the others who commented that MATT’s role in this is KEY! I never comment but I just had to say how I have an easier time learning this stuff because of his participation.
The best podcast I've found. You guys are fantastic, please keep this going. I've followed David's works for a number of years and put him right up there as one of the best humans we have on this planet.
This episode was the one that finally got me to share this with my parents- the others were super inspiring to me, but not enough to make me feel like my elderly parents might actually take action. "The Average onset of dementia is 80 years old" - this episode made me feel like I'm doing a disservice NOT to share this with my parents! Thank you for making this info available to the masses!
Keeping an active social life, regular exercise, and continuing activities the person enjoys, or finding new ones, can help to reduce behaviours that are out of character. Hope these can help your parents as well. ❤
As an extremely busy professional and getting a little older, I enjoy learning about avenues that could help keep me optimizing my overall function/performance. Great podcast and the 2 hosts work really well together.
Special thanks to Dr. Sinclair for delivering true science to our homes. I love neuroscience, so this is a fantastic episode!I Also would like to comment that the conversation format is great. Matt does a really good job. Tks everyone that makes this happen.
@@barbaralachance5836 if it’s any consolation, sunscreen has lots of chemicals in it that can get into your blood through the skin, which is not good. Getting a little bit of sun, and mostly staying in the shade is the best/safest option, in my humble opinion.
@@barbaralachance5836 I agree, he is lucky to be listening to this at the age of 24. I feel grateful I wasn’t aged 90+ when I listened to this. Best wishes for many healthy decades ahead!
David, you have done some incredible work. When I mention it to anybody, they tell me not to believe anything on utube! I am hoping you can get the pill out in time for ME! I am the same age as your Father, so maybe there’s hope for me! I just want to keep doing whatever! Just being active and achieving will be enough for me! I pray that you will bring out your pill soon!🙏
I've been vegan for 20+ years. B12, not folate is definitely the most important to supplement with for brain health on a vegan diet. Permanent damage to the nervous system can happen with prolonged deficiency. For Omega-3s, the recommendation is 1 Tablespoon ground flaxseed per day or to take algae-based supplement for vegans. The algae-based supplements are expensive but more reliable than flaxseed.
@@GabrielCazorlaPersson1 flaxseed oil is highly concentrated in ALA, so the conversion to EPA/DHA may be enough. It's probably better to take a DHA/EPA supplement, though, because there's more certainty there.
I see that David Sinclair has posted a video and come directly to give it a like, even before I watch it.That is how good everything he does is. Thank you sir.
I have read the book Life Span twice. I have watched most of David Sinclair's RU-vid clips and interviews. I have given several copies of the book as gifts to friends. I have been following David's recommendations to improve my overall health for the past two years. However, witnessing how "religiously" David defends the use of Resveratrol despite all the new research studies that say the opposite, has made me question the "objectivity" and "authenticity" of David Sinclair as a scientist. I have no doubt David Sinclair is a great businessman. "Objectivity" is a true characteristic of a "real" Scientist.
@@karendagrava544 In a study, Fluorescent dye activated Sirt1 whereas Resveratrol did not. I feel like David may be affiliated with some supplement company...
@@karendagrava544 I don't think the resveratrol studies discounting it as a longevity supplement are 'recent', per se. I know there was quite a brouhaha a number of years ago over Dr. Sinclair's longevity claims for resveratrol. AND that some biofirm company he sold the rights to for Resveratrol For millions $$$ ended up refuting his claims for longevity for humans, specifically - because they found the study findings were not repeatable. And... that biofirm company washed their hands completely of Resveratrol, and lost millions as a result. (IIRC, from bits & pieces I've heard/read about the Sinclair/Resveratrol 'scandal' - I think this was how it went down), and it very nearly ruined his reputation and his credibility in the scientific community. I remember his talking about how upsetting this was for him, and how - as it turned out - he eventually proved 'everyone wrong and redeemed himself'...according to him. This was all discussed in a Huberman interview, IIRC, when he had Dr. Sinclair as a guest on his podcast. I'll have to re-listen to that Podcast - I may have been distracted during that part. My impression, after listening to that Huberman Podcast, was that the Sinclair Resveratrol controversy was all settled... EXCEPT, that it does currently seem NOT to be 'settled' - not at all (in the public domain, which has a tendency to keep past judgements alive and well) - judging from some of the comments here. So, yah, idk what to believe about Resveratrol either, at this point. 🤷♀️
@@eatmyfeelings6585 can you link me that study? all i can find is that resveratrol helps preventing heart disease and and helps to stop sars-cov-2 replication in the body. sounds a like supplement worth taking. its cheap and seems like it still has proven benefits and no negative side effects, from what i can tell. happy for anyone to show me whats bad about it
@@barbarafairbanks4578 If you read the papers yourself, you will see the flaws in the studies, ones that Dr Sinclair has already addressed. Whether you consider it a satisfactory response or not if up to you, but I think it makes sense. Also, all of the tests the company did on resveratrol were not longevity related, they were related to cancer and liver disease (essentially finding further uses for the supplement).
I just got my first Inside Tracker Inner Age test results and I am 10 years younger than my chronological age! It made me so happy! 😁 I hope that if I follow Inside Tracker recommendations and advices given on this podcast I will be able to become even younger! 😊 Thank you for the information that you are sharing! 🙏🥰
What do we know about lifestyle protocols not related to diet/sleep and how they age the brain? For example reading, spaced repetition, music, cognitive training, new experiences etc? Andrew Huberman’s episode on how play impacts plasticity was really interesting, so I’m curious how this all ties into ageing.
I love this casual, engaged and authentic conversation. I'm more a creative writer/philosopher than a scientist. But I thank god for good scientists like these two. I think we're coming into a better age -- the age of conversation (which has always been my greatest teacher), wherein the sound bite media slowly, and quite painfully, dies.
I work permanent night shift, but am also health seeking and actively training / exercising regularly (3 gym sessions & between 7-10 miles walking 5 times a week). I sleep on average 7.5 hours during the day. Blood work is all ok over the last year. looking forward to checking by biological age to see what the night shift is doing in terms of aging. I love if more studies were done on someone like myself to see the long term effects of night shift work is mitigated by other health seeking behaviours. Thanks for the podcast I've enjoyed the series a lot.
Best podcast ever. Love and appreciate the work you both and your team do and share. Thank you all!! A question about fasting for David: what do you prescribe for your children? Is one meal a day your recommendation to anyone of any age? If not, what age do you recommend starting that protocol? Additionally, I wanted to share that algae oil is a perfect vegan EPA/DHA source/supplement that circumvents the fish oil route. In fact, it’s what the omega 3 rich fish consume too! Highly recommended!
I am 58. Most of my years, after my 'teenage slim time', I was about 10 pound overweight. Around at 45 I developed some knee pain for many years and like so many of my pals, I thought it is just the body worn out because of the hard work as a nurse. So, it is just normal life...! But then I discovered the Ketogenic diet, and after 2-3 weeks my knee pain was gone and never come back. I almost never experience ANY pain at all in my body. If I tell this to my oldest sister, 62, that she should stop eating sugar and do low carb eating, she screams at me: "My body, and knees are worn out, nothing can bring it back!!". She just don't believe me, that the sugar and carbs is the ONE who give the inflamation and the pain, AND it is reversable! It's sad, that almost no one knows, that with eating low carb and no sugar, all the inflamation will be gone and one will feel normal again!! It should be called out from the Rooftop!
If you die in the matrix...the person with Alzheimer's cannot describe their disease. Fuck the knees, keto is for the brain. Read compression of morbidity.
U feel you completely. People are addicted to carbs. It's like trying to convince an alcoholic that hangovers disappear if they stop drinking. They know but do not want to hear it, very frustrating. Leading by example works best in my experience.
@@Chris-kr7gg Yes, no fruits or grains. I'm Vegetarian and eat 1-2 meals a day. My meal is mostly vegetables. Don't want to eat legumes, so I eat some Beyond meat or Impossible for more protein. Sometimes Eggs, but no Milk and rarely Cheece.

I listened to all of your episodes on the Podcast App. within days. The content is interesting and informative. Both co host are amazing and thought provoking. Love you both! I really appreciate the way Dr. Sinclair explains the science behind everything and the way Matt asks questions or presents information. This is the best duo I have come across. Please continue to do more episodes. I have learned so much and you have inspired me to make some meaningful changes in my life. Thank you!
Thank you Dr. Sinclair, been following you for a while. 👍 Recently, there’s been some debate and pushback from Dr. Charles Brenner, and as a layperson I can’t seem to understand all the technical details. Can you eventually shed some light on this disagreement? Thanks.
I'm always amused when experts say "talk to your doctor about it." The vast majority of Drs know very little about nutrition to start with. I asked my Dr if he could get a HOMA-IR test for me & he had zero clue as to what I was talking about. With info readily available on the net now, some patients are light years ahead of their Drs!
Practical takeaways you can implement immediately: Get good quality adequate sleep, exercise, eat well and ensure you are getting enough essential fats.
Just look forward to your podcast..it is so innovating and love hearing about the wonderful things about the health field that I can apply to myself! Just wish I could have dinner earlier instead of later but it is a special time to enjoy a great meal, glass of wine with my hubby and chit chat, laugh, listen to great music..that’s a great health fix for me!!
Resveratrol can also be found in red wine vinegar and balsamic vinegar so if you can't afford supplements and don't drink alcohol give it a try! Posca is a very refreshing drink, and surprisingly tasty once you get past the initial acidic hit (aroma more than anything, it's actually not very sour for some reason. Tastes like weird, fruity mead)
You would have to drink 10,000 glasses of wine per day to get the amount of Resveratrol they’ve used in studies. The alcohol and sugar in red wine do far more damage than the trace amounts of Resveratrol would.
Dr Sinclair, please address the controversy regarding GSK dropping the company you sold to them and the discrepancy of resveratrol findings. Thank you!
My mother at 60 began a computer consulting business with one of her contemporaries. Mom died in 2021 at 92. By that point she had lost a mental step or two, but was still fully aware and alert.
Something I've been wanting David to take a shot at answering: what is (roughly) the appropriate age to begin with some of these interventions? For example, should I start taking supplements (NMN, Resveratrol) at 30? Late 20s? Late 30s? Or should all of these questions be determined by blood tests?
I think we start to aged and our physical and mental health start to decrease at age 25 more less, so Resveratrol and NMN would be beneficial since that and they are not harmful either, and other things as Metformin is more for the older. Also of course lowering glucose levels, doing intermittent fasting for autophagy and working out it's always benefitial
Watch out with B6! I live in the Netherlands where they tested different brands of multivitamins. Although it showed 100 % of the daily recommended dose some did contain much more causing numbness in the tooth and fingers. B12 can also be obtained from spirulina and seaweed you do not have to consume meat
Incredible information and I absolutely love the tandem here. You have my vote for WAY MORE CONTENT WAY MORE. You and Andrew Hibernian need WAY MORE CONTENT. I literally listened to all of your videos and his in less than 3 days. Can’t get enough
This podcast provides so much beneficial information to help reverse aging with easily accessible protocols and regimens. Fisetin is one supplement that has not been discussed yet and I am interested in knowing if you think that it may be beneficial for reversing age or age related degeneration? I know that the Mayo Clinic is currently running studies on this presently and I am interested in possibly adding this to my regimen. I would appreciate your thoughts on if it may be effective and if it is safe for humans to consume? Thank You for sharing your knowledge!
David I’ve seen you on Joe Rogan’s podcast. You’re one my favorite guest. I’m so happy that you’re doing your own podcast. I love Joe but I love him more when he has people like you on. I’m a fan. I hope you keep it going.

A Vegan Mediterranean+ diet is to consume grapes or fresh Grape Juice that include the skin of grapes (avoid wine to avoid the alcohol to avoid increasing the homocysteine levels), and olive as a whole food instead of the oil (missing nutritional benefits of whole olives).
Best recommendations for brain health are Drs. Sherzai (both neurologists). Am shocked that too much of what Sinclair says is either incomplete or false.
Yeah he needs to do a bit more homework lionsmane is useful for ngf and helps for nero degeneration. alzheimer's is a prion disease and most experts are leaning towards that for all brain disorders like parkinson's and dementia.
It would be Good If you Guys could Give 1-2 Daily Simple Practice at the end of each episode related to that topic which everyone can follow since not everyone can afford various drugs, tests n medicine etc.
Thank you David and Mathew for an excellent series. Apologies if this was corrected later in the podcast, I didn't want to forget posting this. There is a slight error earlier on - vitamin B12 refers to the cobalamins not to folic acid. B12 is found only in animal products and faecal matter contaminated vegetables. There is some synthesis by bacteria in the large bowel, and some evidence of absorption, although I'm not aware of this being quantified. Folic acid is the term for synthetic folate, which is distinct from naturally occurring folates. Folic acid is in an oxidised form and needs to be converted to be biologically active, whereas natural folates in food are in their oxidised form. Folate, sometimes referred to vitamin B9, but not frequently, is mostly found in plants, although liver, being the storage organ, is also a viable source. I look forward to listening to the rest of the podcast.
People like David Sinclair, Aubrey de Grey, Jason Fung, Liz Parrish makes me honestly believe that we can say goodbye to pathetic diseases once and for all. For the last few months, I've been taking one tablet each day of NMN-Vitruvin Health supplement. I'm astounded to discover that my metabolism now functions as well as it did when I was a younger. Other outcomes aren't nearly as visible yet, but I saw a significant boost in energy and concentration. I'm going to order another few rounds from their website. It took around just 3-4 days to see a difference. 😇
I always enjoy listening to Dr Sinclair discussing Longevity strategies, and applaud him for his work. Without criticizing him, I just want to draw attention to the discussion on B vitamins. At time stamp point 20:26, Dr Sinclair mentions that Folic Acid IS Vit B12 (cobalamin), which it is not. Perhaps his colleague should do a final fact check with him before the interviews, as in this case particularly, a pure vegan may be mislead into believing that they get sufficient B12 by virtue of them obtaining folic acid from their diet, YET, B12 is not bioavailable from any plant based sources, the few that may have it, nor even gut bacteria. B12 has to be supplemented, or derived from animal sources.
😢 I have permanent sleep issues since childhood. I eat a ketogenic diet, eat 2 meals per day, sprint 3 times per week, weight train, rebounding exercise and hiking. My sleep only gets worse. Something might work a short while, then I am back to where I was. I am 43, athletic and most people think I am 10 years younger than my real age. I wish I could rescue my sleep problems. David and team, Thank you for the continued commitment to optimizing life. A discussion on the Microbiome would be tremendous as I have struggled with GI issues (IBS-C) and believe I have been suffering with invasive candidiasis as I have recently taken fluconasole which provided relief not only in my stomach but also caused the pain and stiffness to go away from joints, back, shoulder, etc. I am 49 yrs old and have taken many antibiotics throughout my life predominantly for sinus related issues which may have caused this condition of excessive candidiasis in my body and am curious to know if there is a way to restore the microbiome and healthy bacteria to optimal levels without Fecal Matter Transplantation as this is not readily available in the US. I'd also be inclined to go away to a clinic of sorts for 30 days if you know of one that would provide the structure and support to restore the microbiome. Thanks again for all of your dedication and work!

Hi there - cut and pasting this for you from the comments section on a dasatinib article: Coeliac disease: After 14 years of IBD I discovered I had Celiac disease. But 1 1/2 years of gluten free diet had no effect. One dose of d+q and the IBD was immediately gone and has been now for 5 months. My theory is that the Celiac disease built up large quantities of senescent cells in the gut which continued to cause enough inflammation to continue the IBS even on a gluten free diet. For me the d+q was a life changer. (D = dasatinib Q= quercetin)
Dear Michael Tegler, in the book of Alanna Collen ´ten percent human' you will certainly find some answers to your questions. For example: What Fecal transplants can do and where Fecal transplants are available in the US!
Omega-3 fatty acids are plant oils. Algae (sea weed) is the best source of them. The only reason fish have Omega-3s in them is because they eat algae or smaller fish that eat algae. You can skip the fish and go direct to the source. There are a few companies that sell algae derived omega-3. The Only draw back to them at the moment is that because the volume sales is less than fish oils, the price is currently higher. You are less likely to get bio-accumulated pollutants from the algae derived oils than from the fish though. Pollutants increase in concentration the higher up you go on the trophic level.
@@corgising5606 You can get nutravege in liquid bottle form, not the capsules, that does not have Carrageenan. All other brands seem to have it., sometimes they hide it, by calling it "seaweed". Some Drs. and Scientists believe that Carrageenan is harmful to human health.
Great episode. As others have mentioned, he calls folic acid and B12 the same thing. Feel free to correct me... B12 is either Methylcobalamin, Adenosylcobalamin, Hydroxocobalamin, Cyanocobalamin. They all play different roles and a good source is Liver. Cyanocobalamin is in cheap supplements and the cyanide molecule that's bound to the B12 uses up methylation cycles to detox it from the body (avoid). Folic acid is a synthetic form of Folate and it's believed to create a paradoxical reduction in Folate levels (avoid). Folate is found in leafy greens. Methyl-Folate is an active form and Folate/B12 have a synergistic relationship. I believe Folinic acid, which can be taken in supplement form is also beneficial to the body for repair processes. Some methyl-folate becomes folinic acid as it goes through the rounds. Some may become Methionine and eventually SAMe. I personally struggle a bit with folate and B12. I do better getting them from food than a supplement. But even eating beef liver can kick up my anxiety and anger symptoms. I have to ramp up very slow and take breaks. I believe this has something to do with a mutated CBS gene and/or SUOX gene. I believe I've had some luck when reducing high sulfur foods during times I want to ingest more methyl groups. Way beyond Dr Sinclair's talk about the importance of Folate. I believe he wants to stress the importance of all B vitamins on methylation. Folate being important in reducing homocysteine levels which when high, increase a risk of heart attack or stroke.
With sleep, not enough people are talking about sleep apnea and how damaging to the brain it is. So many people have it and don't know. I have it, and I don't fit the profile, because I'm skinny and female, so it took a while for me to get a proper diagnosis with a lab sleep study. Snoring, frequent waking, nightmares, heart racing, breathing difficulties can be signs during sleep. And sleepiness and brain fog during the day is also a sign. I have a fitness watch that tracks sleep stages and pulse oxygen. Sleep apnea makes my oxygen drop when I'm sleeping, keeps me out of deep sleep stages, and causes my heart rate and stress levels to go up during sleep. I now have a dental device that keeps my jaw forward and airway clear.
