I live in Scotland, and can assure you that it is almost NEVER this calm and organised.

I would like to personally know how you partake in this dance/celebration in your part of the world. :)

I grew up in the North East of Scotland and quite often in ceilidhs (prounounced kayleigh), or at least as far as I've seen, the most fun is about people being awkward and missing the timing or just making things up. We only tend to do these dances at weddings, ceilidhs or school dances and that's more or less it.

That's awesome to know, makes me want to visit, Scotland even more now.

What a magnificent sight - ladies hair and men's kilts flying in all directions... I'm pretty sure I'd be in a heap on the floor within minutes, but it was so much fun to watch - thank you for uploading. :-)

I played with the Pipes and Drums for many years, and find it hard to remain seated when I hear this music. I miss a Highland Fling!

we went to a ceilidh in the only decent Scottish pub in Chicago, now long closed - the Earl of Loch Ness, We men were nearly flinging the lassies oot the windows with the burlin. Only people this sedate stripping the willow are sober toffs - you get a few drinks in you and its never this calm :) Good times!

Always loved this Scottish country dancing. When our group folded in Fredericksburg VA in favor of BORING English country dancing, I gained ten pounds.

I don’t think you saw real English country dancing either then. We did always these at school and they were indistinguishable in most respects from English ones (borders / Northumberland)

I would suggest that you write to the edinburgh highland reels and strathspey society whose former conductor James Calder - now deceased - scored many orchestral pieces and scottish music arrangements in the 1980's-1990's - these will hopefully still be on archive

Aha, the celts are shorter then the ladies dresses (",). Miss this kind of folkdancings. Please keep the dances and the music for generations to come.

in Scotland we drink whisky and dance have a laugh...strip the willow performed when we are drunk and/or sober . A Ceilidh (yes that is the correct spelling and it is the name of the get together) is a Gaelic word for casual party with music, dancing and entertainment,Ceilidh is the is commonly used to refer to Scottish country dancing

@@christianschwender675 bit late here but ceilidhs are scottish in origin. they were adopted by the irish in the late 1800s.

We did this at my school's second year ceilidh and almost all of us fell over or got some kind of injury. Because three to four hundred thirteen year olds doing strip the willow is not a good idea. Especially when followed by the dashing white sergeant. XD
