A description of the time delay screw in fuse that uses an adaptor to eliminate use of the wrong fuse in a circuit. How it works. This video is part of the pilot gas furnace playlist.
This video is part of the heating and cooling series of training videos made to accompany my websites: www.graycoolingman.com and www.grayfurnaceman.com to pass on what I have learned in many years of service and repair. If you have suggestions or comments they are welcome.
If you are a homeowner looking to repair your own appliance, understand that the voltages can be lethal, the fuels are highly flammable and high pressures are used. Know your limits.

Every fuse has a different depth of threads, depending on the amp rating of the fuse. If the depth is not right, too long or too short, it will not make contact. Hope this helps. GFM

If you want to test these fuses, you will need a meter to check continuity or you can just replace the fuses to see if the W/H works. GFM

The lamp style base is called an "Edison" base. This Type S fuse is called a "rejection" base. The rejection socket rejects the Edison base. Simple.

@grayfurnaceman, Hi Buddy, Hope you're doing well. I had a question. Can I use a 20 amp fuse in a 15 amp socket? Sometimes my 15 amp fuse blows when the power goes out & then comes back on a few minutes later. That circuit is running the window ac, my big screen tv & ceiling fan. I would like to know if I use a 20 amp fuse would that cause a fire or melt the wire or something like that or would it be ok to replace it with a 20 amp fuse & if the load is too much it will blow just like the 15amp fuse? Thanks & I await your reply.

Not the poster, but I'm an electrician. Short answer, no. If your circuit is overloaded, or within the overload range of 80% to 100% of the max rating, then that's why you're having trouble with that circuit tripping. You should probably figure out a way to separate at least one of the loads you mentioned off the circuit, maybe by running a heavy duty extension cable or moving the location of the AC or TV. If you can get a licensed, insured, bonded Electrician to change the fuse/adapter and sign off (taking responsibility should you have a fire) then that's on them. You should definitely not change it yourself though.

I got them in my box, mine is fusestat brand, you cant screw a 30 in a 20 ect. the threads are different.
@grayfurnaceman
@grayfurnaceman 7 лет назад
First, replace the panel. Just had to get that in. We stopped installing these panels in the 1960s. One of the attempts made to increase safety with these panels was to install adaptors to stop you from using too large a fuse. Not only are the threads different, the depth of the fuse is different. @grayfurnaceman
@grayfurnaceman Год назад
@@lionheart3569 That's a no. You could overheat the wires or components. Now lets look at why it blows. When the power goes off while the A/C compressor is operating, then comes back on less than 5 minutes later, the compressor pressures have not equalized and the compressor draws excessively high amperage. That means the fuse will blow. To solve this, you can either un plug the A/C and wait the 5 minutes or you can install a slow blow fuse. GFM

Not that I know of. If it is stuck, you may need to replace the disconnect or, if it is a main panel, replace the panel. Most of these are very old and may not be viable anymore. GFM
